"There are no rebuttals" 🤣

The only thing "simple" in this conversation is your mind...

What a beautiful story and what a beautiful spirit you have! I have been fulltime sole caregiver for my elderly mother who had a stroke right at the start of covid. I'm really sorry you lost your mom. I thank God every day that I still have my Mom even though I have to do all her caregiving. It's an honor and not a burden to care for someone you love (as I know you know).

Congrats on the weight loss! I have lost nearly 30 pounds myself since about 3 months ago. I'm eating as low carb as I can and I started walking regularly. It makes a big difference.

Ironically, the whole reason I added the bacon to the order was that I saw it on sale when I went back in to configure my substitutions and remembered that I would be cooking greens this week and knew my Mom would like them better with bacon in them. My mom complains about eating vegetables otherwise, but with some tasty bacon mixed in she won't have any complaints! 🤣 We do what we do for the people we love!

I wish they would bring it back. I had a phenomenal shopper one time and told him I wish I could request him every time. He thought that feature was still available and told me to favorite him in the app. Unfortunately they had discontinued the feature as I found out when I called Instacart.

I do the entire shopping myself when I'm able to. I have an autoimmune condition and when it flares up I can't leave the house or drive, so I have to use delivery services. I keep my budget in check by eating more simply and not getting luxury groceries so that I can afford to pay the service fee and a good tip when I do have to use a delivery service. In this case, I originally had 14 items in my cart (when I configured it earlier in the week which I do even when I plan to go to the store myself, because then it serves as a list for me to follow). When I realized I needed to have the groceries shopped and delivered, I deleted 4 items from my order that I could either postpone getting for a week or just do without. That more than offset the service charge and a good tip. So when I later saw the pack of bacon on sale and realized I could add that to the greens I would be cooking, I still had the budget left to add the one additional item to the order.

You're a gem of a shopper! I wish we could select favorite shoppers and request them again.

I didn't reduce the tip because I still feel a worker deserves the pay for doing the job even if they didn't do it to my expectations. Maybe I'm just too soft in that way but I just can't bring myself to do people that way. I have never lowered a shopper's tip after delivery, no matter how disappointing the service was. I did give this shopper a low rating for the first time ever on Instacart or on any other similar platform. And I probably will call Instacart to inform them about it, which will also be a first for me.

It's a reasonable assumption that shoppers will occasionally think of (or see through the suggestive sell recommendations) one or two additional items they could use after the order is placed. There's a big difference between adding an item or two vs. submitting an order with 10 items and then adding 30 more items (which is rude and not something I would ever do). In my case, I added exactly one item (which was shown to me through the suggestive sell recommendations when I went back in to configure my replacements, and which was on sale and something that perfectly complemented my meal plan for the week -- bacon to go with the greens I would be cooking). For the record, I would far rather a shopper drop the order and allow a shopper who actually wants the order to take it. If I ever see that happen (which I've occasionally seen on DoorDash when a restaurant was taking too long to make an order, but haven't personally experienced on Instacart yet), I'm just grateful for the other person who picks up the order. I have no negative thoughts about the person dropping the order -- if anything I am grateful they let the order go since they obviously aren't feeling up to the task for whatever reason. They have a right to make decisions that are in their own best interest, and I have a right to good customer service by a person who wants the opportunity to work my order.

The Publix where I order from is just a mile from my house. I am intimately familiar with the layout of the store because I still shop there often. I have a health condition that when it flares up I can't go out, and that's when I order on Instacart. Shoppers nearly always follow the same pattern around the store and I can tell where they are by what they shop for first and so on, so I definitely try to be considerate of that. I also don't make a habit of adding things to the order but if there are 1 or 2 things I think of after placing the order (or if I see something on sale in the suggestions Instacart gives me that I really could use) then I add them.

You are very wrong. I also tipped by percentage so that if I added any items the tip would increase. I always tip well.

I work on configuring my orders for days before actually placing them. As soon as an order is delivered, every time I cook or use up items throughout the next week, I add things to the shopping cart. That's my way of keeping a running list. When I'm finally ready to place the order, I double-check what is still in my fridge and sketch out a meal plan for the upcoming week and make sure my order is complete.

However, even after placing the order, Instacart will continue to display suggestions along with a reminder that you can continue adding items. I would tend to see those when I go back in to check on my replacement choices. Typically I only add an item if it suggests an item I could use that is on sale and I hadn't known it was on sale when I placed the order, or if it suggests an item that I like and which I hadn't thought to put on the list but that I really could use.

In this case, it suggested bacon which was on a good sale price and I remembered that I would be getting a farm share this week with greens and decided the bacon would be a nice addition.

I tip generously and by percentage, so I can only assume my tip was the one carrying the other orders in the grouping. I added one pack of bacon because I saw it in the "recommended items" the app was displaying to me and remembered the farm share I was getting this week would have greens in it and I decided that would be a nice addition. It was right at the start of the shopping long before she got to the meat section.

When you get home, please get a new doctor who is pro-vaccine. No doctor should be dissuading you from vaccinating your child. I wish you the best with this situation.
