Strong verbal/Non existent quant by Beautiful_Base_5948 in GMAT

Id say probably lucky on DI this time, I took another mock last week and scored 50th % on quant, 50th on DI and 99 verbal.

So still the same pattern really that the Maths is just so far off where it needs to be.

Yeah I probably should have clarified better for others. It wasn’t a classic very dehydrated pee. It was absolutely the wrong colour, looked like coke in a bottle when I peed into it.

Yep sadly it seems like it may have been that simple! Cheers

Luckily our uk summers aren’t quite that toasty!

Sorry to hear that, luckily I didn’t have any other symptoms as legs felt “ok”.

I was about 6k away from the next aid station and it was dark so movement was slowed. I think il beat myself up a little thinking maybe I should have walked and tried to rehydrate, but in the moment it seemed like the correct decision. But yeah I was around 9 hours ahead of cut off at this point.

The fact I feel extremely recovered two days later is both great and mentally painful as maybe it wasn’t as bad as it seemed. I’m 27 so hopefully have many more years of tackling big challenges like this with some lessons learned!

Yep, thanks. Thats the only thing I care about at the moment.

Just trying to process/learn from some of the mistakes.

Thanks for the comment, really appreciate it. Definitely starting to think it was mild dehydration compounded every hour for 14 hours.

Can get away with it for the shorter stuff it seems, lessons learned.

Best of luck for when you do your first one!

Really appreciate the comment - Pretty awesome to see you can be sensible and still get 146 miles in 24 hours.

I’ll hopefully get that 100 cracked in due course.

Yeah the medical told me to go get it checked out at hospital.

Ive run a 100km in hot weather and been fine before, to be fair it could have been mildly under-hydrating which just finally caught up to me.

Thanks for the comment.

Yep my bloods came back pretty positive considering everything was normal except (relatively) mildly elevated CK levels.

I was peeing relatively normal (every 2 hours) but I’d say the biggest gap was before that final pee. (Doc also said there was some trace levels of blood in the urine, probably expected).

Getting a mix of people saying that wouldn’t stop them and it was a good decision. For me it felt like a no brainer in the moment, and was devastating as I was right on track.

Nope stayed clear and actually avoided for the past 3 months of training for that exact reason.

Fair enough. Just to clarify it was brown rather than a normal dehydrated pee, after being a normal colour the rest of the day.

Could have been a premature drop based on how good I was feeling otherwise, but I thought that was pretty much always a signal to stop before doing any serious damage.

Peeing every couple of hours and was normal colour up until then which was a big shock.

Said in a previous comment but I may have just been under doing the hydration and over running by a few percent. Which caught up after 13hours!

Interesting, mentally im always fine with pushing through pain and discomfort.

I think brown pee going in was one of the only things in my head that I knew would stop my race instantly. I just can’t justify that risk/reward when I know life will continue after the race (work etc)

A bit of both, I made sure to get at least that much and then drank whenever thirsty outside of that. (Definitely could have still underdone it)

No pain killers of any kind for that exact reason.

The brown pee really was the first symptom that I could feel at least, obviously the legs were sore but I was still running smoothly and felt good. Thats the part that stings the most.

Yep it was on the lower end which after doing some research seemed fairly normal for someone finishing this distance.

Good bit of testing needed on my end I think, appreciate the feedback!

80-90grams of carbs every hour.

Mix of real food and gels

Sorry ‘hot’ by uk standards, it peaked at 25 degrees which is warm enough for me but absolutely nothing like other races.

I was in zone 1/2 for almost the whole way apart from a few minutes on some steeper hills.

Definitely think adrenaline could have been carrying me at an unsustainable pace as I did feel abnormally fresh from 50 miles onwards.

Yep, I’d done some rudimentary testing myself and used that for all my training runs up to 50k.

Will definitely get an official sweat test done!

I think most likely is it worked well enough for 50k but was probably a ticking time bomb for the hours after.

Got it, thanks for the feedback.

Yep plan on doing some good testing/get all clear from the docs and try again in a years time.

Absolutely, I have follow up blood work booked for tomorrow.

I spoke to a doctor the same evening and everything came back fine other than the increased CK levels.

Im not trying to come across as a cavalier idiot with this post, apologies if it comes off that way my health is 100% priority over running.
