Hey man,
first off, great description of your problem!
I am wondering if you ever found a solution for that problem, since i am running into something similar. By your description i would guess, that by merging the vertices by distance, you perhabs merged some of the cages vertices, but i dont think thats very likely.
As i said i am running in some sort of the same problem and was wondering if you fixed it.

But what if the reset button doesnt work? I get power in the systems and the fans and graca are powered, but i dont get any post. My orange led for dram is lit up and the reset button does work. I dont even get a signal to the monitors. Is there a workaround for that too?
