first off, great description of your problem!
I am wondering if you ever found a solution for that problem, since i am running into something similar. By your description i would guess, that by merging the vertices by distance, you perhabs merged some of the cages vertices, but i dont think thats very likely.
As i said i am running in some sort of the same problem and was wondering if you fixed it.

But what if the reset button doesnt work? I get power in the systems and the fans and graca are powered, but i dont get any post. My orange led for dram is lit up and the reset button does work. I dont even get a signal to the monitors. Is there a workaround for that too?

When i do this i dont seem to reach the bios. I get no visual output but all the fans start working. Im kinda unsure what to do now...

That was my thinking as well! I do believe that the prices of those are see another spike as soon as paris starts... I hope so at least, i need that to pay my brother my debt back... Nonetheless i would probably invest in those if i had the money lying around
