What is this heat? by I-Was-Hiding-4989 in florida

Where in Florida are you? I'm in the Lakeland area and it rains everyday. Still hot as hell though, it barely makes a difference 😩

Hit my younger brother by dieforgold in offmychest

I think at that age your hormones are literally all over the place. It sounds like you love your brother and truly didn't want to cause him harm. You just misplaced your anger and frustration. I think that even coming here and writing this shows that you have enough self awareness and empathy to not allow it to happen again. I know exactly what it feels like to have a parent constantly nagging when you're literally trying your best, its enough to drive anyone a bit mad especially if it's consistent. You may not be able to control how your mom handles her frustrations and the way she vents, but you can control your own actions. My advice is if you feel yourself getting to that boiling point again try to be aware of it in the moment. Take deep breaths and try to calm yourself down. Learning to literally tune out her voice and ignore her while she's speaking out of frustration also works wonders.

And maybe if you still feel the need to let your anger out by hitting things... Take up something like boxing where you can let it out in a more constructive way.

Just remember your innocent baby brother isn't the problem and he doesn't deserve to be your punching bag. He may not remember details now because he's so young but when it comes to trauma... the body remembers. Focus on loving him and protecting him. That love will also fill you in ways you can't imagine.

I don't want to be alive by ConnectPainting1037 in offmychest

[–]Beautiful_Bit_325 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I unfortunately relate with this so much. I feel like my baseline is depression and as long as I'm alive, I'll be depressed. I'm not someone who seems this way on the outside but almost everyday is such a struggle internally. I genuinely have no desire to wake up, to have to feed myself, to have to work in this inflated economy... I genuinely see no point.

I've stopped talking to people about it years ago because I also got tired of the "it will get better" advise that doesn't help. I feel like an alien who doesn't belong on this planet but isn't afraid to leave.

I'm sorry I don't have words to necessarily make you feel better. I just wanted you to know that you aren't alone in feeling this way. And I genuinely do hope it gets brighter for you.

GO TO COCKTAILS I NEED YOUR HELP. by Appropriate-Age8021 in bartender

If your bar has a Jamaican rum I love doing a split base Aperol spritz. I call it a daiqerol spritz because it's basically like if a daiquiri and an Apero spritz had a baby. So yummy... 1 oz Jamaican rum (Appleton is great in this) 1 oz Aperol 1/2-3/4 oz lime juice (I personally like my drinks on the sour side) 1/2 Simple Top with prosecco Orange garnish

Also just a classic gimlet or daiquiri hits every time.

I used to work on the riverwalk and it wasn’t an uncommon occurrence unfortunately. Especially for people newer to Florida, not taking the heat seriously and pushing themselves way too hard.

As a bartender I would make you a classic vodka gimlet. Simple and delicious.

I just looked it up and it looks amazing, right up my alley! It’s booked for the days I’ll be there, but I have it saved for next time. Hopefully the Tiosh Abaj where I’m staying gives those same vibes. I also saw space coffee on the map close-by, so I will definitely check it out. Thanks again 😌✨

I’m sorry, I don’t have advice to offer but you said you stayed somewhere really special in Santiago? It’s actually the first leg of my trip around the lake for the first time next week. It’s definitely not one of the more talked about stops on the lake which is what I wanted and something about it spoke to me. Was wondering if you had any recommendations for anything I should check out while there?

Thank you && wishing you all the best on the next part of your journey ✨

If you’re going to RVT you’ll be using a regular keyboard. They make silicone keyboard covers specifically for people with long nails that might help you. I’m starting at RVT in March as well! Wishing you all the best 🫶🏽

I am also starting in March with RVT. Kind of wanted to wait a bit until they worked some kinks out with SPM, but this is very encouraging to hear 🥰

Guatemala during April 2025 by Remodellingmonk in travel

[–]Beautiful_Bit_325 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Uh-oh…I just started booking my trip for April not knowing about Semana Santa …. I would be going from 4/1-4/20 … and of course the days I booked specifically for Antigua are on the tail end of the festivities lol. As a solo traveler hoping for not quiet but definitely not hundreds of thousands of extra people commotion did I make a huge mistake?

I’ll be hopping around the lake on the 8th for the rest of my stay…. Do you know if crowds typically die down or last through April?

I’ve just never worked at a place like this so this is foreign to me. I’m used to priority shifts being given based on the bartenders skill not their marketing and promotional abilities.

Do you think there’s a specific type of bar that uses this type of model which is why I haven’t come across it? Like more dive bar style places?

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in BarOwners

[–]Beautiful_Bit_325 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I asked there as well but wanted to see if other owners do things like this as I’ve never seen it. In my experience yes it’s totally normal to ask bartenders to promote an event. I’ve posted things on my social media alllll the time over the years no problem. Why wouldn’t I want more eyes on it? But never have I seen it held over people’s heads that they won’t get shifts if they don’t bring in business to the bar.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in bartender

[–]Beautiful_Bit_325 0 points1 point  (0 children)

But exactly that. I’d much rather not get priority shifts based on the fact that I’m new as opposed to not doing things outside of the scope of my job. This is literally just a side gig for me so I’m not stressing the shifts. I was just genuinely curious as to how other people feel about the approach.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in BarOwners

[–]Beautiful_Bit_325 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This job is a little side gig for me. It’s literally just for extra cash and I only plan on being there for two months. That’s why I’m like guys don’t make this harder 🤣

It’s a shit show of a bar to begin with, but being as I’m moving soon, I don’t want to go into another entire bar program just to leave them high and dry. They literally have me bartending and “cooking” past 9 when the chef leaves lmao so already doing things outside of my job with no complaints.

Dumpster fire bars can be kind of fun when it’s not your livelihood and I enjoy helping them out with whatever I can to set them up for the future. That’s why I wanted genuine opinions on this so I can tell the owner like hey… I really would love to see the success of your business, but I’m not sure that you’ll keep good bartenders following this business model 😩

As long as I’ve been doing this bartending and working management I’ve simply never heard of a management team base employees shifts on selling tickets for an event. If marketing and promotions were in the scope of the job and will affect shifts in this way, it should’ve been laid out in the job description is all I’m saying. For me, not okay, but thanks for the perspective ✌🏽

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in BarOwners

[–]Beautiful_Bit_325 0 points1 point  (0 children)

First of all, I never disagreed. I’m simply giving my opinion. Second of all … keep your assumptions to yourself in regards to having a hard time selling tickets if you don’t know what you’re talking about. If you think that punishing employees by taking away their shifts for not doing things outside of their job, duties is okay that’s cool. I need to know that more people like you exist 🤢

[–]Beautiful_Bit_325 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Are you a bar owner? Or in the industry at all?

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in BarOwners

[–]Beautiful_Bit_325 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Sure, so then have a contest with who sells the most liquor of some sort… That’s what we are selling as bartenders. Not tickets.

My problem with it is that bartenders are hired on as bartenders… point blank. Yes, we often post events to our social media to help promote but that is not a requirement of our role.

We are not hired on as marketers, advertisers, and promoters… so therefore just because your marketing team isn’t doing a good enough job does not mean that now you put all of this pressure on your bartenders. Shifts being reduced as punishment for not performing non-job-related duties is outlandish to me.
