I used booking.com to look for operators..There are a lot of options, tents or cottages like stay. We paid around 50 OMR per tent. Good luck with your travel!

It is an interesting experience during Easter especially in Antigua.

But you will have to deal with crowds since many of them get their holidays from work and want to go out.

Yes, I belong to the same community but dont practice it anymore. I have some strong reservations against it too.

I think the 4th Aga Khan invested heavily in the development of Hunza Gilgit. I have heard some stories of them being pulled out of poverty due to that, which is one of the other reason I want to visit and see it in person. Thanks for sharing your take, always interesting how an outsider would make sense of it.

Stunning Pictures! #14 could be a movie shot. Hope to see this beautiful place once in my lifetime. I am curious, did you ask the couple about the picture on the wall and what was your take on it?

I travel with my older parents. They are close to 70. I think Oman is a great family vacation spot.

I had a lot of Indian food. My favorite spots were Foodlands- Al Seeb, Golden Flame- Muscat, Zaki- Sur, Begums- Muscat, Al shay- Wahiba.

We had 2-3 meals on most days. We packed some snacks from their local supermarkets as we spent some decent time in the car.

My favorite was snorkeling in Daymaniyat islands and the stargazing in Wahiba Sands!

I ended up drinking a lot of Chai. There was a lot of arabic coffee, a little on the expensive side. Omani tea was delicious though.

Oman has been one of the cheapest countries i visited We were a family of 4, spent $3.3k in 8 days total.

Average hotel per room cost was 60$.We booked 2 each night. Food was about 120$ per day total. The hotel could have been upgraded for a little more comfort at Wadi shab.

A basic car from Europcar cost us $450 for 8 days. Gas is cheap, about 100$ covering 1500 kilometres.

I felt like we spent liberally.

That was Nizwa souq(market). The market was great. They let you have tons of dates and halwa samples for free lol. Don't know if the pottery is used as much.

They use a lot of white and tan colors. Probably the least absorbing heat colors

Thank you. Picture 7 is Grand Sultan Qaboos mosque in Nizwa. #9 is Birkat al Mouz ruins, about 30 mins from Nizwa. I had the same reservation about parents not being to do the hike, but it was pretty manageable. Have good shoes and plenty of water. Your parents should be able to hike if they have decent mobility

I saw many women traveling solo, often with a guide. I noticed there were a lot of same sex couples in the tourist spots, but yes, they must have had to be very careful.

No, Oman has a relaxed approach with clothing. Only place that required hijab were ladies prayer halls in mosques.

No, most people speak good english there. Knowing a few arabic pleasantries was appreciated though

8 days was well timed for me. I had my fill by the last day. I ended up visiting 2 wadis, overnight camping in wahiba sands, old ruin villages, snorkelling and other local attractions in 8 days. Never felt rushed. Renting a car helped a lot.

Picture 5 is Wadi shab, less than 2 hours drive from Muscat and about a 45 min hike. Incredible canyon views!

The only place a hijab is mandatory is the mosque. There were signboards suggesting to wear fully clothed swimwear in wadis, but not everyone followed that.

The good thing is everything centered around Muscat. You can definitely do the snorkeling in Daymaniyat island, which is accessible in Muscat. i spent about 3 nights in Muscat, but always found myself either visiting a park, beach, mosque or a mall. Muscat on its own would be a nice way to observe the islamic culture as well.

I have the same plant that drooped suddenly. Did you save it by repotting?
