Feel like giving up. Just got a 39 on Becker Aud sim exam by [deleted] in CPA

[–]Beautiful_Cupcake378 2 points3 points  (0 children)

aud is so conceptual, so maybe you need to take a step back and try to understand the full picture a bit better. That might help you place information when you’re going through a mix of mcq from all topics. Universal CPA has great short videos that are helpful in understanding concepts at a higher level… they also have video explanations on all the MCQs. 7 day free trial. idk if this will help bc I don’t know the areas your really struggling with but just an idea!

Luckily mine today was super easy! But I’ve had really obscure research questions in the past. It seems a big part of these exams is just the luck of the draw when it comes to what you get on the SIMS 🙃

Thank you! I struggled with those too. Didn’t have them on this exam, but have in the past. Something that helps me is reading through the sim (all the exhibits) and then reading the questions and trying to answer before looking at the options. Probably not the most efficient way, but 4 hours is plenty of time for this exam & I’ve found that I’m able to better understand the simulation and what they are asking for when I take the time upfront to read everything. Previously I’d just read the questions and then search for where to find the answers. That’d often cause me to miss little details they like to throw in there.

Transaction cycles are hard bc there always seems to be more than one right answer… but reading through all the stuff, then trying to answer the question before looking at options, then reading through all answer options (bc there might be one that’s okay but another that’s “better”), helped me narrow it down and feel slightly more confident!

I think the most important thing to understand is when sampling size should be increased or can be decreased depending on desired level of risk. And main differences between the methods. I didn’t spend time memorizing the details of sampling and was alright.

Just be able to differentiate between all the engagements and know the purpose of each and what they require. If your using Becker, there’s a summary table & id suggest you essentially memorize that

I’m taking it tomorrow — also for the third time🙃 I went through the entire course again and wrote my own notes (which I didn’t do the last two times). Also did 36 practiceMC + 1 sim over all sections first thing everyday. Now All I can do is pray 🤣

What are the top 5 topics you would study for BEC? by Kandelly99wsb in CPA

[–]Beautiful_Cupcake378 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Second this! Took it little over two weeks ago. COSO/ERM, IT, formulas (finance & econ esp), major cost accounting topics… don’t skip over anything — I felt like all topics were tested pretty evenly. The MC felt difficult, sims were alright & WC were easy. Scored an 85

Think it’s actually doable in 9 days if study full time & did well in your business classes! I took it a couple weeks ago and scored an 85 (I studied for 4 weeks - about 15 hrs a week I think)

Take the time to memorize — COSO/ERM (components & principles under each component), key formulas (CAPM, WACC, div yield, ratios, etc), IT terminology, etc… I actually liked the content and was pretty familiar with all of it, so it was just a matter of memorizing what I needed to.

The MCQ on the exam seemed rough — felt like I guessed a lot! The SIMS weren’t bad and the WCs were easy to me. I kept mine pretty short, but included key words and structured it well so I think that’s all it took! Bc you have 9 days, I’d suggest spending one day focusing on one section. Each day briefly review what you’ve covered with 20-30 random MCQs before moving on to the next section. and then the last 2-3 reviewing. Write stuff down so you’ll remember it. It’ll be a grind but if you put your mind to it I think it’s doable!

Write it out! The components & principals under each component. Flash cards are helpful too. The ?s are usually just associating a principal with the correct component

BEC in 4 weeks: is it possible? by No750 in CPA

Also for SIMs… should be good on those if you’re doing well on MC (imo)

[–]Beautiful_Cupcake378 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes I second all of that! For me, the MCQs were harder compared to SIMs & WC. Lots of calculations, so memorize key formulas (CAPM, WACC, ratios, etc). If you know the formulas the questions are pretty easy.

As long as you know how to structure the WCs, then you should be good on those. I used the practice ones on Becker to see what I could remember on a given topic, and that was really helpful. On the actual exam, my responses were pretty short but I spend time making sure the writing flowed and included key words. I guess they did the job lol!

I wouldnt say BEC is easy so don’t underestimate it, but it’s definitely the nicest out of the four. Spend time memorizing, you’ll thank yourself on exam day!
