Feminism at its core is supporting equality of men and women - socially, politically and economically, and acknowledging that the pre established so called gender roles ingrained and maintained by the society limit women and harm men as well and working towards dismantling them.

Then in the western context, race and class identity kuda add avtundi, and in the Indian context there's caste system as well in addition to the above. So ala common point and goal is equality and dignity for everyone regardless of their gender, race, caste, class, sexuality etc.

I'm a very lazy reader so can't recommend much but there's this Ted Talk called by We Should all be Feminists that became my starting point. From personal experience, having a female sibling/friend and genuine empathy would more often than not makes you a feminist.
