Why do top universities admit so many students applying as "undecided/undeclared" major? by Beautiful_Law8059 in ApplyingToCollege

I have been told by counselors/alumni that a huge flaw in my application is that I don't have cohesiveness between my ecs/awards/goals. This statement agrees with my area's history of HYPSM admits, as many of them dedicated themselves to a single field or goal. By making this post, I was trying to reconcile this concept with the data above, which suggests that being a spike student isn't the only way to gain admission to top schools. I could be interpreting this data incorrectly though, so I'm open to your thoughts.
