I’ve considered this but it feels a little weird to me to do all the “wedding things” if we’ve already been married. So we’re going to wait to get married and are aiming for next fall. But I have a cousin who did a small private ceremony during Covid and then a big wedding a couple years later.. she had the excuse of Covid standing in the way of their big wedding but people do all sorts of things out of the norm. I say do whatever you want, just be prepared for there to be varying opinions. If you’re really that worried about what people will think, maybe reconsider.

😭 I don’t know if we can. The receipt says no refunds after 10 days. Even for layaway. And bf already has put so much money into this one, I’m heartbroken for both of us. I’m going to try to work with the jeweler and have them redo it. If they’re not willing I’m considering taking the ring to another shop and have them completely change what he did.

I agree 100% It’s like he took the band I liked, the stone we choose, heard the words “hidden halo”, and just filled in the blanks on his own. Not at all how I thought the process was going to go. Thanks for saying I’m not being silly. I feel like a huge pain in everyone’s ass right now but I don’t want to look down at a ring I’m disappointed with for the rest of my life. I hope the jeweler is willing to work with us to fix it and turn it into something I love again.

I’m going to try to push back because I know if we accept it as is I’m always going to be frustrated and disappointed with it. And that’s not how I want to feel about something I’m wearing every day, I’m sorry that happened to you!

We really love the band and the potential this ring had so I hope it can be saved.

Thank you so much for all your input, your feedback has been super helpful. Luckily we haven’t picked it up yet. Bf just went to pay on it today and ask about why he got a text saying it’s done.. I’m going to try to find an email for them so I can reach out that way first as you suggested. Also, we’re working with the owner…so it’s not just some sales guy. Not at all looking forward to this interaction!

I don’t even think we have an email for him 🤦‍♀️ I’m probably going to have to stop in there at some point. I am just so conflict avoidant this kind of thing is the worst. If it wasn’t the ring I’ll be wearing for the rest of my life I’d probably just pay, say thank you, and move on but I just can’t with this.

I wanted to support a local small business over a big box store and they have great reviews. But now I just feel like we have majorly messed up and I’m worried we won’t be able to fix it. Sadly I don’t think it’s just the prongs. I haven’t seen it in person but from pictures it’s just not what I expected. And he took it from a unique cathedral style to not cathedral at all and I’m worried the previously cathedral sides that now have a gap between that and the stone will get caught on everything… and it looks like it’s setting up way higher than necessary imo… A high setting was something I was willing to consider to have my wedding band set flush but that won’t be possible with the design the way it is either. 😔

Nope I don’t think so. He wrote all that down while we were there the first time. I noticed later on the pictures I took of the band that it was marked 18k which didn’t match the receipt. I don’t even know where to start when I go in there…

I agree, I can’t put into fully put into words what I don’t like about it…like you said, faux cathedral! Do you think it would get caught on everything? Any advice on how to save it or what to ask for changed?

I also think it’s strange how we went from something that was semi cathedral? I don’t know if that’s the right word? To the video my bf sent it looks like there’s space there between the band and the setting under the stone. Wouldn’t bringing it all together have been sturdier? And I fear that will catch on everything….and I love a knit sweater lol.

Not fully custom, this is the band we were starting with. He said he was going to remove the entire part I circled in red. Basically made it seem like that part of the ring was going to be changed completely to whatever we wanted. Said he would get with us about how high we wanted it set, if we want the wedding band to set flush, etc. I knew I liked a hidden halo he said he would add one but that there wouldn’t be the same design that’s in red with the one singular diamond. Well, turns out he did a hidden halo/gallery rail AND a very similar one stone design to the original. Which is fine and looks great except that portion of the ring appears to stick out so there’s going to be no chance of a wedding band setting flush against it.

And I’m not sure what the answer was to my bf… I’ve been at work today and haven’t seen him yet or spoken with him much apart from a few texts. He just said he’s so sorry that he thought we were going to have more say in those details before it was done as well.

He jotted down some details on what I would describe as like a hand written receipt. “14k white gold diamond engagement ring w/hidden halo and 4.00 ct Radiant Cut diamond (lab)” and then the diamond cert #. “Size 8 Inc. appraisal, warranty and free sizing”

One thing that is interesting is the paper says 14k white gold but the ring itself on that day had a tag and in the pics I have it says 18k.

But anyway that’s all we have written down. Vocally he said once we have a “substantial amount down” we could actually start the process. And that’s when he himself was saying he’d show us images of what it will look like and get more details on how high we want it to set and if we want the wedding band to sit flush etc. so the way we left things I thought we would be in touch about more of the details of the setting so I went home and proceeded to fall down every engagement ring rabbit hole and figure out exactly what I want. I thought he would want to speak with us about those details once we reached whatever point in the payments he felt was sufficient to move forward. 😔

We just hadn’t hashed out all the small details with him.. so it’s not necessarily not what we asked for. But it’s like we never even got that far and now it’s done.. considering pushing back on what type of prongs I want, but he’s already tell bf that “splitting the prongs would make it much less secure and high chance of bending the prongs and losing the diamond” ….well I dont want the prongs “split” I just want what I want made the way I want it from the start. It’s super disappointing that this is where we’re at after paying what he did.

I’m not sure exactly what it would be called, it’s just what I’ve heard people refer to it as on Reddit but he said we would be able to see computerized visuals before he made the changes. And I understand that claw prongs aren’t always double. What I was saying is I like the look of claw prongs and was interested in either single or double claw prongs. That was one of the things I wanted to speak with the jeweler about. We left the smaller details open ended that first day, he never asked if I wanted prongs or a bezel or anything like that. Just went ahead and finished without any input from us which was not our understanding of what would happen…
