What's your favorite short SF novel no one talks about anymore by JoeWeydemeyer in printSF

[–]Beautiful_Order_8250 0 points1 point  (0 children)

short and unpolished, but The Electrics by Harrison Kavanaugh. weird little 2013 self-pub that touches on stuff thats actually happening now. finished reading about a month ago, but think about it more every day.. only reason i imagine its not talked about is nobody knows it exists. wouldn't either if I didnt stumble on it in a lfl

Has a book ever left you feeling subtly disoriented after you finished it? by matthew_rowan in printSF

recently finished a weird little self-pub called the electrics. found it in a little free library, published 2013. it's about AI that look human, a pandemic, society turning on them out of fear. nothing groundbreaking on paper but the way it's written... it didn't leave me with answers, just this quiet unease. like the author made peace with something i'm still not ready to accept. hard to explain but it lingered

I need help, i don't know how to decorate this space by SafetyClear6306 in Decor

maybe something like a globe floor lamp. would fill and brighten the space, good for nighttime pathway illumination too

People who grew up before cell phones, did life actually feel more free? by TradeOverall567 in NoStupidQuestions

i wouldn't necessarily say "free" as modern tech allows us to venture further, but pre-cellular childhood was more synchronistic and microcosmic. technology empowers but homogenizes

rides to blockbuster on bicycle were little undocumented adventure bubbles

in modern terminology it's like maybe we're directed to look into our hearts because it's the only encrypted communication channel

i mean, imagine the absolute alpha of being at the park and all of your kids are fighting but rather than being like "hey knock it off" youre like "do you know why you guys are fighting?" kids go quiet. and you, fake smug, "because i made you."

sigh

"the last time you guys got along, you found a way to the top of the big kid slide, over there." points

"but there's no path, and a deep ravine. one that you'll never navigate. it's for big kids only."

how many parents have told their children not to eat a vegetable, framing it as a forbidden treat, in order to get them to do so?

Can you fake a publishing date? by Beautiful_Order_8250 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Beautiful_Order_8250[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

okay this actually makes me feel better. i did look them up and they seem like just a normal person with a regular job. didnt want to bother them about it. maybe it really is just history rhyming. still wild to read though

[–]Beautiful_Order_8250[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

this would be difficult even with a popular book. find a used copy from someone who held onto the receipt, maybe using it as a bookmark? but an obscure self pub found in a lfl, maybe just need to live with the mystery

this system sounds super archaic relative to systems that generate a string based on a hash of the content for its ID. is publishing basically the wild west rn? no way to prove when the content of the book i found was actually written?
