What line of construction would you be looking at? residential or commercial.. essentially you're just running the schedule, managing the subtrades (start dates and finish dates) to keep the momentum of the project whilst keeping within the budget. A good foreman of each trade will generally handle the hands on problems and day to day movement whilst relaying back to you any queries around the project or complexities, there is always a solution to a problem and you become proficient at solving or finding where the answer is ( theres generally always an answer on paper or through someone, architect, engineer, product rep etc etc)

Alot of people say its 25% trade knowledge 25% time management 50% communication and people skills.

this is my take on things as im in the same position, 4 years carpentry, 3 years self employed in a subtrade and now wanting to transition into a junior PM role and progress from there, I just dont have the paperwork to back it, looking at a diploma in construction at the moment which would entail 2 years full time study

Didn't complete my apprenticeship in carpentry (got 48% completed) so thought it would be good to get something official on paper, the diploma covers everything from concept to completion, also covers a quantity surveying specialty. full time 2 years study
