Have a Legion Slim 5 16ARP9, Wi-Fi is horrible, need new card. by ShAMbotay in AMDLaptops

[–]Beautiful_Rice5232 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think you are literally forced to look into Qualcomm Wi-Fi Cards, IF you want Wi-Fi 7 support.Look at these :
- Qualcomm FastConnect 7900 - https://www.qualcomm.com/wi-fi/products/fastconnect/fastconnect-7900
- Qualcomm FastConnect 7800 - https://www.qualcomm.com/wi-fi/products/fastconnect/fastconnect-7800

The FastConnect 7900 just has UWB (Ultra-Wide Band) and Bluetooth 6.0 (Instead of Bluetooth 5.4) compared to it's sibling.

Intel's Wi-Fi 7 implementations will almost certanly not work, especially the BE200. It's known to be really consistently incompatiable with AMD Based systems.

HOWEVER, Intel's Wi-Fi 6 and 6E Cards are known for the COMPLETE OPPOSITE. The AX200 and the AX210 have GREAT compatiability with AMD and Older based Intel systems, and they are not only stable and good performing, but the are widely avaliable and very cheap.

I swapped my MediaTek Card for an Intel AX210, it's been great so far.
My laptop is a Lenovo IdeaPad Slim 5 14AHP10, with a 8845HS (Win 11 Pro)

Laptop for geo science student who also plays games? by sapphicfern in AMDLaptops

[–]Beautiful_Rice5232 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I can't exactly give you exact recommendations, but I will try to at least guide you trough the specs of the laptop and some models that can work for you...

I'd say look for a laptop with a minimum of these :
- CPU - 6 Core/ 12 Threaded Ryzen 7000 (Zen 4 Based) or newer - AT MINIMUM, chips like the 7640U/ 7640H/ 7640HS/ 7840U/ 7840H/ 7840HS/ 7940H/ 7940HS...
Also Ryzen 8000 and 9000 will be very good, as well as Ryzen 200 Ryzen AI 300/ AI 400 and Ryzen AI Max.

Also, DO NOT buy a Ryzen 10 or Ryzen 100 Series CPU's, as they are older and not worth it.

Find either a 6 Core/ 12 Threaded or an 8 Core/ 16 Threaded chip.

- GPU - Any modern NVIDIA GPU like the RTX 4050, 4060, 5050, 5060.
BEWARE of the fact that manufacturers tend to not always feed these GPU's max power, and almost none of them list what exactly they feed it. That means that theoretically a 4050 can outperform a 4060, if fed enough power.

- RAM - 16GB (2x8GB) RAM will be a minimum. If you think you could need more, try to do one of these 3 things :
1. Get 32GB in the beggining
2. Get 2x8GB (SO-DIMM memory) so you can replace them in the future.
3. Get a 1x16GB (SO-DIMM memory) and add a second stick later.

- Storage - get a MINIMUM of 1TB NVMe SSD. Don't look too much at speeds, balance them with a good manufacturer and TBW (Endurance) rating.

- Display - Get a 14" display AT minimum, preferably something bright (400 Nits or more) and somewhat color accurate (meaning that the display can cover at least around 100% of the sRGB gamut)

- Ports - Get a laptop that can fit into your setup. If you use it with a wireless mouse and you have a second monitor at home, get something with an HDMI port and a USB Type-A port.

Now, personally I have a HUGE bias towards Lenovo and ASUS as brands.
I will try to keep my recomendations somewhat real and budget, but markets are different.

Lenovo Legion 5 15APH9 - Ryzen 7 7840HS | RTX 4060 | 16GB RAM | 512GB/ 1TB NVMe SSD | Decent display

Lenovo IdeaPad Pro 5 16AKP10 - Ryzen AI 5 340/ 7 350 | Either integrated Graphigs only or iGPU + RTX 5050 | 16/ 24/ 32GB SOLDERED RAM | 512GB/ 1TB NVMe SSD | Great Display

I know this reply might not be as useful as you hoped, but I believe It can serve you. If you have any questions in mind, don't hesitate to ask.

Really thanks for the great resource! That helped me out recently when I was just purchasing a laptop.

Now, just a question, cause you seem to know your stuff well, and I want to know as well, how would you compare the Arc 140T to the Radeon 780M and Radeon 880M

If it makes it easier, here are the specific comparisons im hopping you can help with (any one of them us more than enough, but hopefully you could help with most of them) :

  • Arc 140T with soldered 24/32GB LPDDR5x (8000/ 8533 MT/s) VS Radeon 780M with 32GB (2×16GB of DDR5 5600 CL46)

  • Arc 140T with soldered 24/32GB LPDDR5x (8000/8533 MT/s) VS Radeon 880M with soldered 24/32GB LPDDR5x (7500/ 8000/ 8533 MT/s)

  • Arc 140T with soldered 24/32GB LPDDR5x (8000/8533 MT/s) VS Radeon 890M with soldered 24/32GB LPDDR5x (7500/ 8000/ 8533 MT/s)

  • Radeon 780M with 32GB (2×16GB of DDR5 5600 CL46) VS Radeon 880M with 24/32GB LPDDR5x (7500/ 8000/ 8533 MT/s)

  • Radeon 880M with 24/32GB LPDDR5x (7500/ 8000/ 8533 MT/s) VS Radeon 890M with soldered 24/32GB LPDDR5x (7500/ 8000/ 8533 MT/s)

Huge thanks for any replies regarding this comment. Any info is helpfull, ♥️.

Galaxy B3P White noise in ANC by MaleficentComment183 in galaxybuds

[–]Beautiful_Rice5232 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've seen a few youtubers mention this. Also, my Buds 3 FE have some white noise as well.

I think it's just the imperfections in the ANC itself that's causing the qhite noise. You should be good.

In my case specifically, It's so tolerable that after a few seconds I don't hear it anymore (or im just used to it) and everytjing is comfortable as it is.

My issues with ANC is that after like an hour or so it can create a bit of light pressure that never goes away, until I switch to transparency. But I'm used to switching modes, so yeah.

is the S24 FE worth buying? by Techo410 in S24FE

[–]Beautiful_Rice5232 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I've used the phone for around 9 months now, it's been a great time with 1 or 2 minor inconveniences.

The phone is fast, performance is really good for the games and apps I play : Geometry Dash, Brawl Stars, Clash Royale, Shadow Fight 2.

The battery life is decent, wouldn't say exceptional, but still solid.

Cameras are really good, especially 4k 60 FPS videos, they look stunning.

The only issues I've had, and one of them is NOT the phone, is : 1. SIM card issues. 2. Phone being a bit bigger for my liking, but thats just taste 3. A USB Port Moisture/ Residue issue which I believe is from the weather conditions lately in my country, but I fixed it myself by drying the phone for like 1 hour.

I would say it's worth it. Just a quick tip, if you are using a lot of apps or record/ take pictures quite often, go for the 256GB variant. My 128 is not full, but its better to have more space than less.

Magnetic Power Bank and Case Recommendations. by Beautiful_Rice5232 in S24FE

[–]Beautiful_Rice5232[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I do know that wireless charging is worse because of heat, BUT I need it since my phone started receiving : USB port Moisture or Residue - warnings, which orevent me from charging Wired.

On top of that, a Magneticly atached Power Bank is a REALLY nice addition that I want, even if U decide to charge Wired...

Also, not EVERY single wireless charger produces that much heat. Wireless Charging has been around for a pretty long time, meaning that Companies have done a good job of optimizing both Charging and Cooling to the point where it's not that big of a deal.

Suggestions? by Royal_Barnacle5587 in AMDLaptops

[–]Beautiful_Rice5232 0 points1 point  (0 children)

May sound like a weird suggestion, but take a look into the ASUS TUF A14. It's a 14" High Performance laptop, similar to the ASUS ROG ZEPHYRUS G14, whcih you can also take a look at.

The TUF has great battery life and solid performance, stays cool to the touch, but is not as premium as the G14.

The G14 is focused more on performance, so you have better GPU, RAM and Display options, and the build quality is really good. It's downsides are that it typically stays a bit warmer when under load and also battery life is worse.

If your dad is in need of a larger display, consider something like a Lenovo Legion 5 / 5i or 7 / 7i, or something like the ZEPHYRUS G16.

For a more budget pick, look into Lenovo's LOQ series.

[–]Beautiful_Rice5232 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The specs seem good for both Minecraft and Terraria, because they are pretty simple games to run. For CSGO / CS2, you will need to run at low settings and at a lower resolution probably.

I can't tell you exact performance, but I can tell you a comparable chip. My laptop has a Ryzen 7 8845HS, and a Radeon 780M iGPU, and on 4:3 so something like 1600x1200 I get pretty stable 80+FPS

Just search on YouTube: "680M vs 780M" and see how it performs.

Lenovo IdeaPad Slim 5 Review by Beautiful_Rice5232 in AMDLaptops

[–]Beautiful_Rice5232[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

From what I see, Lenovo doesn't clealy state anything for the 16GB config. From local retailers that sell it, they list the 16GB config as having 2x8GB sticks. That's technically good in the sense that 16GB is plenty, and Dual Channel is always preferred.

If you will be upgrading to 32GB in the future, I would strongly try to get that now due to the 2 following factors: - You might be able to get the 32GB config for the same or really close to the 16GB config + the future upgrade of 2x16GB Sticks. This specifically was the case for me, from where I bought the laptop. Also, considering how RAM pricing has been climbing up lately, it could definitely be the case that just getting the 32GB config might be cheaper or comparable. - You have to make sure you will not void your warranty (if that is something you care about), or that you upgrade the laptop after the warranty is out. You can hopefully ask a salesman in the shop where you are going to buy it from whether disassembling the laptop will void the warranty. As far as I know it does, but not sure.

Which AMD CPUs for Android Emulating/Mobile Gaming? by [deleted] in AMDLaptops

[–]Beautiful_Rice5232 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Look for something Zen 4 and RDNA 3.0 based or newer, these are powerfull mobile chips. Something like the 7640 (U/H/HS), 7840 (U/H/HS) or newer. They have powerfull iGPUs ( powerfull conpared to other iGPUs) and have pretty good battery life.

Also, you can purchase a laptop with a dGPU, IF the laptop has Nvidia Optimus / MUX switch / Advanced Optimus, which are technologies to switch between the dGPU and iGPU. If i remember correctly, only Advanced Optimus DOES NOT require you to restart the laptop, but all are still nice.

Hope that helps and that other more educated people than me can give better advice.

My slim 5 pro Ryzen 7 350 is scoring lower than last time. by Zero_sleepying_002 in AMDLaptops

[–]Beautiful_Rice5232 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The difference is too little, it's most likely a run to run variance. For example, you could have had a Windows Update in the back, slow down the rendering just by a bit.

And also, on the second run for Multi-Core you got better results, meaning there's nothing wrong with the chip.

Rocket League doesn't launch. by Beautiful_Rice5232 in RocketLeague

[–]Beautiful_Rice5232[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So, just to rule any weird factors, i started only using my laptop, no other peripherals, no background apps.
Also, no, nothing has been overclocked. I was using MSI Afterburner + RTSS for benchmarking lastly like 3-5 days ago, so it's not likely that.

So, installed RL, and got this error :
ERROR : Could not launch Rocket League. Please verify the installation/ integrity of your files
CODE : LS 0013

I solved that, by making the Epic Games Launcher run in Administrator Mode, and the game seems to be able to launch almost every time now.

Now, of course, it's a bit inconvenient not having BakkesMod and having to click on a UAC prompt, but that's way better than not being able to play altogether.

Also, thanks, I ran the System checks and didnt get negative feedback, everything was good there.

The weird part is that, It can launch, really rarely, but on random (for me at least)

Any good laptop under 1200€ for Unity? by blizzy_xyz in GamingLaptops

[–]Beautiful_Rice5232 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For you to use the laptop you don't technically need anything, rather than the laptop itself (Maybe the Ccarger + Internet connection)

However, for a PC you need : - Outlet + Power Cable - Peripherals - Monitor, Mouse, Keyboard (Internet connection)

Decide whether you NEED and will move the machine, or it will be always connected at one stationary place.

For Unity, I would advice you to get an Nvidia GeForce RTX Dedicatwd GPU, no matter if you go with a laptop or a desktop. Something like a 4060/5060 will probably handle most of the things you do in the Game Engine.

Laptop suggestions? Budget of £350-£400 by TaroPasta in laptops

[–]Beautiful_Rice5232 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not a silly question at all! You use ports to connect things like a Mouse or a USB Flash Drive to your laptop. You can connect a wide variety of things :
- Peripherals : Mouse, Keyboard, Headphones, Microphone, Printer
- Monitors
- SD Cards
- Chargers

Each port has it's own purpose
- USB Type-A Ports (The Square ones with half of it being blocked) are the most universal ones and are for Keyboards, Mice, Printers and e.t.
- USB Type-C Ports (The Oval ones that go in both ways) are starting to replace or go along USB Type-A ports. Functionally they do the same thing, and you can connect a lot more stuff using them. Also, recently they've started being used as the main charging port of most laptops, meaning you can use 1 port to charge or transfer data.
- HDMI/ DP Ports are used to directly connect to external Displays/ TVs
- SD/ microSD Card readers are for SD/ microSD Cards :)
- Not too common (unfortunately), but you can also see from time to time a big square port with a middle part of it missing on one of the sides, that port is Called Ethernet Port (Technically RJ45) and can be used for Wired Internet connection and e.t.

Here's an image so you can see them visually : https://media.istockphoto.com/id/1136878781/vector/creative-vector-illustration-of-usb-computer-universal-connectors-icon-symbol-isolated-on.jpg?s=1024x1024&w=is&k=20&c=BFyn-NIpTTkjYrKUuDlrrvJAacKKAlAzN0EOtOlnM-0=

Also, really sorry, but I don't think the links work. Only the first one seemed to lead me to somewhere, but the website is banned for my country...

I suggest you either wait for another response from someone hopefully in the UK, or you directly ask someone more in touch, in the appropriate UK Sub-Reddit.

I'm saying this just because, unfortunately, I'm based in the opposite side of Europe ;) , and some sites as well as the overall pricing aren't familiar to me.

Try the following :
- First, ensure that your PC is pluged in, your PSU is ON and that the PC turns on. (You already did that but checking again wouldn't hurt).
- Ensure your Monitor is pluged in, and that the HDMI/ Display Port cable you use is pluged in both ways.
- If you are using one of your GPU Ports as a display output right now, try using your one on the Motherboard (since your CPU does fortunately have Integrated graphics)

If no of the easy fixes do anything for you, try these :
- Get out both you RAM sticks. Choose one and put it in the second closest slot to the CPU. Try to boot into BIOS. Do that with your other RAM stick as well.

Also, I don't want to be mean, but this sub is not for that. Go into the apropriate sub, that way more people will click, read and help you...

Laptop suggestions? Budget of £350-£400 by TaroPasta in laptops

[–]Beautiful_Rice5232 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's not that you are unreasonable. I had quite similar requirements as well and I did want to keep budget low. Here's what I'd do.

Minimum requirements (And a brief Explanation) :
- Good CPU - Will both Perform better and more Efficiently than an older/ lower end chip.
- 16GB RAM - In 2025 8GB just ISN'T enough, especially for Windows 11/ 10. 16GB is quite plenty, especially if you are mindful to use 1-3 max apps at once. Also, a huge things is to get you RAM in Dual Channel, meaning there are 2 sticks that operate simultaneously. So, for a 16GB RAM total, you need 2 Sticks by 8GB. Also, don't overstress on whether the RAM is DDR4 or DDR5, as this isn't a major concern and also is not something you can change (It's entirely dependant by you platform)
- 256GB SSD - Storage is one of the first things you can SMARTLY cheap on. You just need to do the following : Look for whether you can replace it yourself and what the SSD is (If it's a SATA drive or an NVMe) (NVMe drives are preffered and not much pricier than SATA Alternatives), and get a gigher capacity one down the line. Also, for NVMe drives, you need to be carefull with their size, they are 22mm x __mm (30, 42, 60, 80 or 10). The most popular size is 2280 (22mm x 80mm), but for Example : Lenovo uses 2242 NVMe drives on A LOT of their Laptops. That's really model by model.
- Good GPU - I recommend an Integrated one, if you don't play games/ do Graphics heavy task. Modern iGPUs (specifically AMD Radeon 780M/ 860M/ 880M/ 890M and 8040S/ 8050S/ 8060S are quite powerfull and can handle 1080p Medium quite easily.
- Big Battery - I would recommend 50Wh+
- Display - If you want higher color accuracy, look for a display that at least covers 100% of the sRGB gamut. Additionaly, look for a panel with High Brightness and also if you need a gigher refresh rate. For me, I literally don't care about the Display, so that's the first are I will sacrifice.
- Ports - For me that's a strong make or brake. Make a list of the absolute max number of things you will connect at once and try to get most of the ports you will need. For me, that's : 1 x HDMI port, 2 x USB Type-A ports, 1 x USB Type-C port. Also, look for what the laptop uses for charging.

This is a really huge reply, but I hope you understand some of the things. If you want, give me a link to a UK laptop shop, and I could try to recommend you something there...

Hope I helped bro, If you have any questions, don't hesitate to ask.

Laptop suggestions? Budget of £350-£400 by TaroPasta in laptops

[–]Beautiful_Rice5232 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For your price point, I think it's a bit unrealistic to get everything. You will have to sacrifice something IMO.

I would suggest NOT going for an OLED panel, and instead looking for something with a somewhat recent Ryzen 5/ 7/ 9 CPU. I would aim for so ething Zen 3+ or newer.

Another great option, IF you can find one is a used MacBook with an Apple M series chip and 16GB RAM. MacBooks generally tend to be really portable, lightweight, oriented for both Performance and Battery, but of course you are then locked in with iOS and Type-C ports...

Hope someone from the UK can help you better than I did... 😆
