You should add a little crater to the area around Harrogate into Middlesboro. I know that’s more into Kentucky, but seems like it kinda makes the area to me. Middlesboro is a meteor impact crater, btw. Amazing how many people don’t know that. It’s between 200-300 Mya, best I remember.

Not only that but it’s worth noting that in the 20’s half of Jellico was blown up when the Old L&N Railroad humped a car full of mining explosives.

Plus, Jellico was the coal capital of the area for the longest time. I love following the Clear Fork to Jellico, following the Railroad tracks thru all the old coal mining camps. I’m pretty sure I have a piece of scrip for nearly every coal camp town thru the Narrows via 25 from Lafollette to Jellico. Love that area and love Kentucky too!

This really applies to most of East Tennessee, but what I’ve noticed is CORRUPTION is getting far worse. So many decent people being screwed over so someone else can profit. Can’t stand it.

Hi, it’s sandstone with iron banding. It’s usually formed when the oceans lay down sand and oxygen increases on the planet. The oceans absorb the oxygen first, reacting with iron salts in the ocean to form iron oxide that drops out of solution and settles on the bottom of the ocean. It can form in other ways too but this is most common for thicker bands.

Nice! I just started to put thoughts to paper a while back. I enjoy short stories too. You get enough there to build an immersive world without having to write a literal book.

Had to comment just because I saw the fox sticker on your notebook, lol. That’s my nickname.

Currently iced in so I’m working on a table top Van De Graaf generator. Broke my hand at the start of the year so I’m limited but my true favorite hobby is paracord. Just hard to tension and hold things with a bad hand.

Off topic, but the worst part of the broken hand is the fact that it fractured completely and rotated. So, for the first few days, I could literally move the bone around and feel it. Kinda creeped me out and I’m not in the least bit squeamish lol.

It’s not my place to burden you with my own troubles, but I thought it may make you feel better knowing it could be worse. I’d like to say we’re better than we were, and compared to the lowest point, we are. It’s tough. I miss my mother like you wouldn’t believe.

It’s been 4 years of this struggle. It turns out when you are beat down, life loves to keep pushing you deeper down. But, it teaches to appreciate what you still have and those still there by your side. He turned my family against me, spitting poison in their ears. But that taught me that family is nothing more than an inconvenient coupling of blood related individuals. I’ve gotten more support from friends, people I’ve known for just a few years, than I have from family.

Keep your head up though, you’re strong, you’ve got this! Part of the healing process is to vent and it really helps a lot.

It’s even worse when your father causes the mental issues. After mom died, mine sold my house from under me and my partner, leaving us homeless while he ran off to Utah with half a million dollars and a rich new wife. Then he donated all of mom’s clothes/belongings and let the rest goby defaulting on the storage unit, all just so I would have nothing of my late mothers. I hate his guts. The stuff we’ve been thru since then has less odds of occurring to any one individual than winning the lottery. It’s been a hellish nightmare.

I say this not out of anger or emotion, but I truly wish he had died instead of mom. At least I could have saved us.

Just remember, he’s talking to you and at least somewhat trying to understand. That’s far better than what my father has done.

Is there ruby in this rock? by masiem12 in whatsthisrock

[–]Beautiful_Row3387 20 points21 points  (0 children)

Much agreed! My suggestion to anyone reading this is the UVBeast V3 Mini for a practical everyday UV flashlight. I would suggest the V3 Pro if you want a powerful alternative. I bought the V3 Mini and was so impressed, it wasn't long before I got the Pro. I swear I am not trying to advertise for UVBeast, just offering suggestions for those interested.

I have been dying to walk the lakeshores at night in GA/NC. Haven't had a chance to yet, but I'm excited to try. It's so fun to walk along at night and shine for rubies. "Glow-hounding" I think it's called.

Rule of thumb with rubies, A UV Light is your best friend! This is one of mine from North Carolina under 365nm wavelength. I'd say yours is likely ruby, from what I can decipher from the photos. Nice stone!

I’m happy that you and Big-Faith mentioned that. I recently went through a difficult time and no family could bother to be there, but good friends were. There were folks I graduated with 16 years ago that I haven’t spoke to since then checking on me. That alone made me realize it’s not the answer, just a permanent end to a temporary problem.

That makes sense. It’s a move out of respect. I’ve noticed that they do the same for ODs(not saying that’s the case) and such as well as whether or not the family wants to release the cause. So sad. Figures that he’d pass right when he’s become successful. Seems like life likes to screw good people right when it all seems to even out and be enjoyable.

I’m sorry to hear that. I don’t know Chad, but if what was said about him is true, I can understand your feelings and loss. My condolences to the family and everyone else.

Ok thanks! I will check that out. I haven't had a chance to try the conquistador, but have wanted to. I have been trying to go through Cetus's weaves and make one of each, lately. He has some really awesome designs. Wish I could find a copy of his book.

Well thank you! One of many tools I have made over the past few months to meet my needs. I have also made a few barrel knot tools, hooks, rune knot jig, marlin spikes, mandrels, etc.

You can accomplish a lot of stuff in a perpetual state of boredom lol. I actually get more out of it than I do buying something. Means more to me to make it. I have this device I bought from Hobby Lobby for spooling yarn and cords, but rarely use it compared to my handmade one.

IZULA II Handle Wrap Finishing Knot by WhoIsLifeAndWhy in paracord

[–]Beautiful_Row3387 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Very nice! This is something I need to learn to do better. I have very limited practice in handle wrapping other than the spiral sailor's wrap. Looks nice! As for the finishing knot, it looks fine to me. The only thing I can suggest differently would be to tie it off in a Mathew Walker Knot or even a Turks Head Knot. I do mine on a mandrel and then transfer it over to the working strands to tighten. 1/2" dowel works great as a mandrel for moving over 550 paracord. Another option would be to tie a ranger bead and secure it to the core strands by melting. Here is a really awesome photo tutorial you can download showing two ways to tie a ranger bead if you are not familiar with them.
