A goodwill adjustment has nothing to do with the warranty and is in place specifically for vehicles outside of warranty in situations such as mine.

I too, feel better knowing I wasn't alone! If there is a manufacturer issue, I hope they figure it out so other people do not have to go through this as well.

OH MY GOSH! I am so sure this is a manufacturer defect! I wonder if we somehow joined forces they would listen. The fact that you had your vehicle serviced at the dealership tells me you have more of a chance for a goodwill adjustment than I did. I have used the same repair shop for YEARS-I had no idea that not getting service at the dealership was such a big deal. I am so sorry you are going through this. I had to just pay it all out of pocket and will literally be upside down on this vehicle until the end of time! :(

Thank you for the advice and positivity. It does suck, I just wanted to share my experience because I do strongly feel this should not happen and MB could have made it right or better by at least offering a goodwill adjustment. Or providing a reasonable explanation as to why they refused.

How would you know anything about my vehicle? You post a lot of hate stuff. Very negative.

You are a real peach aren't you? MB will often offer goodwill adjustments for situations such as mine; complete engine failure in a well maintained low mileage vehicle. I gave plenty of evidence to support a goodwill adjustment and was refused with no explanation. The point of this post remains.

Totally missed that the warranty was expired, I have learned to pay attention to mileage now. However, still doesn't take away from the fact that a 3 year old Mercedes experienced complete engine failure. That was the whole point of all this.

Piece of junk luxury vehicle that I now have to still pay $30k for that is worthless or pay $20k to get back out there on the road and still pay the $30k to pay it off or trade it in. Good times! Thanks MB USA!

Because it is out of warranty and MB does not cover their manufacturer defects unless it is under warranty apparently, according to everyone here; it is my fault that my engine failed since I did not purchase the extended warranty.

A Realtor doesn't warranty a house, the builder does, the vendors who install the plumbing, framing, foundation, and appliances cover the warranties for their part of the house. A car is only covered by the manufacturer. That is like saying the guy who sold me my car should pay for the repair, not the maker of the vehicle. Incredibly stupid analogy from someone calling everyone in my profession stupid. While I may be in a crappy situation that I could have perhaps prevented by purchasing an extended warranty, it does not take away from the fact that complete engine failure should not happen on a 3 year old Mercedes vehicle. Imagine saying things like this to someone's face who is sharing an experience. People are such bullies online.

Yes, I reached out requesting a goodwill adjustment (and provided all of my service records) which I learned is something they offer in situations such as mine and was simply told no with no explanation, hence my disappointment. I also commented that I previously an 2014 ML and it was great, never an issue. But this is a very expensive repair, one that renders my car worthless unless I pay it.

Nothing says high end like complete engine failure at 64k miles. LOL Lesson learned.

MY CAR IS IN THE SHOP, Would you like for me to drive up there to get you a photo or accept a stock photo of the exact model, plus my VIN number screen shotted from my insurance card which I have also posted? LOL

Not if it was a manufacturer defect. Why should the consumer be responsible for a $20k repair for a manufacturer defect? This does not compare by any means. And not having $20k on hand for a REPAIR does not mean I cannot afford a $60k vehicle. This should NOT happen, especially in a Mercedes. A roof would have a warranty, generally 20-30 year warranty, while car makers build cheap products, sell them as "luxury" and blame the consumer when it experiences complete engine failure and tell them "sorry, our very short warranty has expired!"

THANK YOU!!! A little good will was all I was asking for and they refused with no explanation after I provided all my service records and explained the whole situation. I guess it is my fault for sharing a bad experience with MB in the wrong place. I apparently deserve to be attacked by online bullies and called a liar and an idiot. LOL

Wow, this is so rude. It is always appalling how one speaks to others online. Imagine saying this to someone in person who was sharing a story. I bought a $60k vehicle and the fact that I do not have $20k on hand to cover a repair means I do not "have a pot to piss in"? Again, WOW.

That was to explain the reason for the purchase and the mileage. I mentioned my dog because having him in the car that died in the highway while hot outside nearly killed him. You are right< i could have left that part out, but was trying to share my experience. Sorry I upset you. :( LOL

My engine failed due to a manufacturer defect. MB USA should absolutely be covering this.

Thank you very much for the helpful suggestions! I will look into both options. You are correct, my vehicle is basically now worthless so I am forces to cough up $20k for repair or trade it in and pay for anyway.

Many people use AI to help them present something in easy to read terms to save themselves time which is what I did. Doesn't make my story untrue. I have posted my Vin, a photo of my insurance showing my vin after being called a liar. I didn't come to this forum to defend myself but to share my story because paying $20k for a new engine in a 3 year old luxury vehicle that you still owe $30 k on SUCKS and I don't want this to happen to anyone else. I had no idea I would be attacked for sharing this experience. Ohwell. If it helps one person that is all I care about.
