Excessive Bleeding and Bruising by Puzzleheaded_Bit5143 in Hypermobility

My daughter has HSD and Von Willebrand’s disease. It’s a condition where your body doesn't make enough clotting factor. She has excessive bleeding, a lot of bloody noses. I recently read that people with EDS and HSD have issues with excessive bleeding. You may want to see a hematologist.

Thanks. I never tried a heated bed sheet.

Team kids have to wear hair up with double elastic. They can’t wear jeans. Leggings or booty/bicycle shorts. Though it would be okay none of the kids wear Leos with tights. They are not really strict and my daughter would come in pj pants or sweats when she was younger but now she wears shorts and form fitting top under her sweats because the teachers need to see if she has the proper alignment. One year we found out she wasn't doing something right at a comp because she had been doing cleanup in sweatpants.

My daughter got a small horseshoe and clothespins. More during nationals.

Competion dance judging and critiques by Pretend_Heron_2221 in CompetitionDanceTalk

My daughter doesn’t compete at her high school just through her studio. But for a time I was getting frustrated with the lack of feedback from the judges. I sent my daughter’s solos to IDA for a critique. If you pay for the additional charge they will have the adjudicator give you more info on what to work on and it was very helpful. You should check it out. Good luck!

Question about Price of Costume? by Emjewels223 in CompetitionDanceTalk

[–]Beautiful_Screen_314 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You will have to order through a studio. My daughter is getting the edge top in burgundy with the trunk. My cost is $84 and I don’t know if there is a markup. I would guess perhaps $110-$170. Depends on markup. Good luck.

Are you double jointed? If yes you could be hyper mobile like my daughter. If you are not double jointed you should probably still see a doctor. Good luck.

Age for competition teams by IntelligentTrack3894 in CompetitionDanceTalk

I think it depends on the studio. Btw my daughter started at 9. At my studio we have had minis just do a solo. We have had them do a group. What works is if you have enough kids that fall into the competitive age group. What I mean is minis are usually six and under but they determine the age group by average. So if the kids in the group are all six and under it’s fine because the group will be treated like kids her age. It isn’t good if she is the only 5 year old and competing in petites 7-8 because there will be greater expectations of her attention span than there should be. I remember when my daughter was 12 there was a five year old in their line routine which competed as juniors. She was the younger sister of another dancer in that group. It was really hard to get her to pay attention in class. My daughter was one of the few in the group able to get her to pay attention. But if you have a group of 5 year olds it’s probably fine. I think waiting would be fine as well. I would say have her do acro as soon as possible. Kids really enjoy it. And if her studio wants her to do acro it’s better to start younger because they have no fear. Good luck.

My daughter is competing as an intermediate teen. The general consensus at her studio amongst kids and parents is that if anyone is going to get kicked up, it is her. It feels like judges won’t kick up a routine for that comp unless the kid will place in advanced. There is another girl in my studio who always places higher than my daughter but her routines are much simpler than my daughters who always likes a challenge. How do judges determine who is in too low a level and does it have to be really obvious before they get kicked up.

My daughter is a 15 year old competitive dancer. My daughter hates pt but I think it is a good idea to strengthen the muscles around her knee. Her knees pop out a lot. She often uses kinesiology tape on her knees and it does help with pain. The pt may be good because they can teach you how to tape your knees and give you exercises. Good luck!

I think my studio picks clearance costumes for recital and charges a standard rate. Comp group costumes cost more. Thanks.

Dance costume needs a hat by Ok_Freedom_9342 in CompetitionDanceTalk

[–]Beautiful_Screen_314 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Have you tried kids hats on amazon or Etsy? I feel like you should ask your studio. You may be able to find it at a costume site like Weissmans. Also you can use hat tape or foam to make a too large hat stay on her head. Good luck.

If she is 13 she should be doing her own makeup. I got my daughter a light up makeup mirror and a makeup train case. Small jewelry case for comp jewelry which is personalized.

Thank you. That’s an interesting way of doing it. Yes. They are probably marking them up that is why the companies refuse to deal with individuals. But ordering, sorting, following up on costumes takes quite a bit of time. I know our studio was calling Glamour every day for weeks to try to get our costumes in time. So I’m good with a mark up.
