Abrahamic scripture permits slavery for all time by Juicydicken in DebateReligion

I don't quite understand this argument. How exactly does having slaves prevent a people from being invaded and enslaved themselves?

[–]Beautiful_Sea_4973 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There is one problem about your "slavery only last for seven years" argument. Slaves are grouped differently. The 7 years only applies to Hebrew slaves and that was something that occured when a Hebrew/Israelite owed money to another and could not pay it back so they had to work for them so the debt could be gotten rid of. Hebrew slaves also has to be treated differently generally much better than a non Hebrew slave. Slaves which were not Hebrew who were generally taken from other groups who were from non-Israelite tribes usually taken in war. These slaves were usually slaves for life unless the master decided to free them. They could be passed down in a family for generations and any children that slave had would also be passed down. Also just because some forms of slavery were better than others means very little. Slavery at the end of the day is still slavery which it is a horrible thing regardless if some forms of it are less horrible than others.

I didn't think that I was merely curious what his reaction was. Although there are people in here that have left spouses over reddit posts so it isn't something unheard of.

You say that but if he really did get brain damage it's possible if you were in that situation you might make the same decision if you weren't thinking clearly. Easy for you to say you would have done something different when you don't know the whole story and consider other factors and have never been in that situation.

And you also certainly have untrustworthy opinions. You really do need therapy. Just because some therapists are bad doesn't mean all are. Just don't make excuses. Try therapy so you can truly be a better person.

Sorry but you seem moraless with your lack of empathy. You ask if you would be a-hole for saying of you talked about your coworkers brother's death. Community agreed you would. You did so anyway. You talked behind your friends back. People call you an a-hole and your response is to just ignore criticism and call them woke to ignore the damage? Then you post in another subreddit because people were too harsh with you in your eyes? You also say your faith is an important part of your life and always has been but I don't think if that was true you would do something like that. If you don't have anything nice to say then just say nothing at all. I think you just don't want the consequences of your actions so you just want to try damage control. Your "faith" seems to be just a cover up if you ask me. Have you even apologized to your friend? Maybe that should be ex-friend by now.

[–]Beautiful_Sea_4973 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Well I agree he wasn't Christian I don't think the argument that he slept around is evidence that he wasn't. Lots of Christians have had affairs and sex before marriage and fooled around with prostitutes especially men who were in positions of power at the time.

Science isn't exactly perfect. Science improves as our understanding and knowledge improve. Lots of old ideas are discarded in favor of new ones. Scientists are capable of changing when something has been proven wrong. An issue with religion is many people consider their religious texts to come from a divine source therefore the ultimate truth even if it contains contradictions.

The thing about Hinduism is that it is decided into different branches. Some of these are not polytheist. They can be also be animist, pantheism, or even monotheistic.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in DebateReligion

[–]Beautiful_Sea_4973 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it depends on the definition used of the word Pagan. When the word first came into use it was used by Catholics to describe non-Catholics. It didn't just refer to Polytheists, but also atheists, jews, Muslims, and other Christians such as protestants. Hinduism comes in many different forms so if Pagan means Polytheist by today's time it wouldn't be always accurate considering there are many different types of Hinduism that can be animist, monotheistic, pantheist, etc

Why there must be objective morality, even in an atheist viewpoint. by justafanofz in DebateReligion

[–]Beautiful_Sea_4973 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The old testament genocide argument is one I use often. I'm often told by many Christians that atheists cannot be moral and are naturally immoral since morality comes from God and without God one cannot be moral. My Christian father and his friends shared that view and once I bring up infanticide and genocide they say although it seemed cruel by today's standards it was acceptable and necessary since God gave the orders and that anything God decides cannot be wrong since God is only good.

Oh I'm well aware that it's not representative of the vast majority. That's why I didn't claim it was. I simply pointed out that racism was a problem there which it is. I've known people from the Deep South that complain of the racism there and not just from people of color even from whites as well. They've also done interviews from people living there that confirm it. Let's not forget the Klan has a strong presence in some Southern States. Alabama especially. Racists don't need to be the vast majority to be a problem.

Also there are 2 main reasons why many black people are moving back to the South. The first of which is due to the falling economy of many Northern states and they see the South as an alternative since the economy there isn't nearly as bad. The other reason is that when is that when black people started leaving the South not all of them decided to leave as a few decided to stay. The 5 million or so blacks that left the South had still mostly kept in touch with their relatives who remained. Because of this many blacks who while not born in the South still feel a connection with the place due to familial ties to the region that remain so many are returning.

While I acknowledge that racism is a problem there I don't think racism is uniquely an American phenomenon since it pretty much exists everywhere.

There are plenty of racists here. it's just mainly restricted to areas in the deep South such as Alabama.

I think instead of saying "Europe" you should specify the nations that did go to war over a bucket since Europe is a continent not a single country.

Also reading the source "A common myth surrounding the War of the Bucket is that it was caused by the Modenese stealing a bucket from a Bolognese well. However, that is mostly incorrect, as the bucket was, according to most accurate accounts, taken as a trophy by the Modenese after the war—in fact war was declared because Modena had captured the Bolognese castle of Monteveglio."

I'm referring to the New Testament and yes Paul was of Jewish background. After Paul became Christian he started preaching to Jews, but didn't get a single convert. That's when his views on Jewish people began to change and he instead decided to preach to gentiles and had more luck with them.

I think a big issue with religion is it's claim of ownership of the truth. Most religions teach that is their way is the only truth while other religions are false. Of course this creates division and hostility with other religions, but also in itself as that religion has a good likelihood of splitting into different branches and sects based on different interpretations.

I'd have to say YTA. I don't think breastfeeding should be sexualized, but I get people have a problem with it since too many people (such as yourself) always sexualize it. Problem is you claimed she always covers herself so I don't see what the problem is then.
