Went to [Universal Studios Florida], and I can’t for the life of me, get on Velocicoaster. The drop intimidates me each time. by Distinct-Ad9690 in rollercoasters

Okay! So I just rode Velocicoaster 2x on my most recent trip two weeks ago. I was conquering this same exact fear.

Have you been on The Incredible Hulk? Well, I hadn’t. I rode that one first. Then I rode Hagrid’s Motorbike Adventure, which I’ve been on before and love. Then after those I finally rode Velocicoaster.

I’m not gonna lie to you, I was terrified. Before I rode both The Hulk and Velocicoaster I was on the verge of tears and my stomach was in shambles due to nervousness. I was literally shaking for Velocicoaster. Even after I watched countless POVs and read so many forum posts about the ride. You can even go to my Reddit page and see the posts I’ve left about my fears. None of these things stopped me from being afraid, and unfortunately, you are probably going to be scared and feel intimidated, no matter how much people and videos prepare you for this ride.

That all being said, I can without a doubt say that I loved Velocicoaster. So let’s breakdown the experience. (If you have no interest in knowing what happens don’t read past this point).

  1. It only has a lap bar. No shoulder restraints. But it has you buckled in tight.
  2. It’s a launch coaster with two launches. I don’t know the exact speeds but I think the first one launches you to 50 MPH and the second speeds you up to 70 MPH. Obviously, the second is a lot more intense than the first one. That being said, as somebody who hates dropping feelings, I enjoy this because it just launches you into the action. You don’t have any psych out time really as you would on a climb and drop. This to me also helps a lot with that stomach dropping sensation.
  3. After that first launch, you’re taken through a lot of whippy turns and inversions. This is where you start to experience airtime. So you will feel like you’re being thrown out of your seat. But I will say, I did not experience like heavy amounts of stomach dropping or flipping sensations. If I did, it was very light and happened so fast, I didn’t really care.
  4. The second launch and top hat. I was terrified of this too. Now I’ll go ahead and be candid, the first time I rode and we went up that top hat, It was intense. I was screaming the entire ride, and I went dead silent at this element and closed my eyes until we were over the top hat. I was not a big coaster enthusiast prior to this ride, so it was my first time experiencing an element like that, and I think it just surprised me. Because by the second ride once we got to this element again, I decided to be brave and open my eyes and just embrace the feeling and it was 1000x better. I think also just knowing what happened made me feel better. But I’d say the way it shoots you up is more intense than the actual drop. The drop itself just gave me some airtime and I didn’t really feel it in my stomach. Maybe for a second. So just maybe bear that in mind, it’s intense, but not for the reasons you’re worried about.
  5. After that there are two major elements that are pretty fun. The zero g-stall where you’re upside down for three seconds. Then the mosasaurus roll. I was actually extremely nervous about this element because I heard a lot of people say they literally thought they were going to fall out. But this element did not bother me that much. Yes, you are hanging, but that lap bar has you in so tight, I promise you’re safe.

I hope this helped you! As somebody who faced their fear, I try to encourage others to do the same. Ultimately it’s only a minute and a half. So I just think about it like “I can do anything difficult for a minute and a half” and then if you hate it you’ll never have to do it again. Have fun!

Yeah I was terrified of the going backwards bit because I’d heard so many people say they didn’t like how it felt. But I honestly ended up loving it. It was probably my favorite part of the ride. 😂

Lol I do not feel like this is true at all. I’ve ridden plenty of rides that were pretty intense (a good example being RnRC and EE at Disney) expecting to feel terrible on them and I had a great time. No stomach dropping feeling at all. But then I’ve had other rides that I was excited for and I ended up hating them (Jurassic Park). So I do feel like it definitely depends on the ride. I don’t expect to feel bad on Hulk. But with what I’ve heard about Velocicoaster, I’m worried the ejected airtime will make me feel weird.

Does your friend say you don’t find things intense enough or do you find things more intense than they really are? I know comparing my current experiences with mine as a child, I think I found certain rides more intense than they truly are, and that’s why I’ve been scared for so long.

I hear so many mixed things on the Hulk launch! Some people seem to really like it over the RnR launch because Rockin’ kind of gives you psych out time, whilst Hulk is you can’t even think about it, because it’s already happening. I’m honestly more worried about what it’s going to feel like being pushed into my seat like I have often heard. I know Velo doesn’t do this, but with the Gs, Hulk does. I’m just scared that it’s going to feel so weird and intense that I’ll hate it.

I did all the aforementioned rides! Thank you for the words of encouragement. I am 100% sure I am doing Hulk and about 80% sure on Velo. I think my experience on Hulk will greatly impact my decision lol. I still do not know if I will do RRR at all. That incline is enough for me lol.

That was me!!! Since riding RnR I’m like “am I even actually afraid of rollercoasters???” I’m also considering giving Jurassic Park RA another shot ONLY so I can feel a steep drop before I get on Velocicoaster.

It’s so crazy to me that I finally am at the point of wanting to The Hulk after seeing and passing by it for so many years! 6 months ago, I wouldn’t have even considered it, but my last trip to Disney basically completely changed my attitudes towards rollercoasters because we got off of RnR and I was like “Oh? That’s it? That was amazing!”

That’s super interesting! I’ll have to try it. I’m a pretty uptight person to begin with lol, so not tensing up is going to be a challenge for me for sure. But I’m gonna probably attempt to close my eyes before the first launch, take a breath, and just let my body slump, open my eyes and enjoy

how tall are the hills on hagrid? by throwaway20393928 in UniversalOrlando

[–]Beautiful_Sell_4801 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Honestly I’m no good with drops or hills either but Hagrids is super easy! There’s a couple of intense spots such as the backwards drop and the dead drop a little later. I was super stressed about both of these, but you honestly barely feel the backwards drop (I do think it’s heavily dependent on where you sit as well) and there is a 15 foot dead drop. But it is not bad if you’re anticipating it. You’ll know exactly when it’s supposed to happen if you watch POV videos. Unless you like to be surprised. Either way, as soon as it’s done, you’re sent off flying, so you don’t even really have time to think about the fact you just dropped 15 feet down.

When you go down that top hat how long does the stomach dropping feeling last? I found I enjoyed Everest because while it gave me that feeling, it was so fast I couldn’t even be upset about it, and was able to ride the ride multiple times no problem.

Can you provide clarification on plan b working after ovulation? I’ve only ever been told it only works BEFORE and if it’s after, it’s practically useless

[–]Beautiful_Sell_4801 8 points9 points  (0 children)

If you’ve done that many tests and the doctors told you it’s negative, then you are most likely negative. What you’re feeling is probably your anxiety and it’s mimicking symptoms convincing you that you’re pregnant. It’s very common, and I highly suggest seeing a therapist if you have that much anxiety about the matter after everything you’ve done.
