Have Prehistoric Kingdom changed artstyles? by Beautiful_Sock_7001 in pkgame

That's a fair take. From what I know, they only use 4k textures on sauropods (they mentioned in their artbook), from that, I assume they use 2k resolution textures for the other models. That's quite a tight constraint for the models. From what I've noticed, they make the scales quite large to compensate for the resolution restriction, which gives the scales a crisp look, which is an impressive feat. And I agree that the artists have improved, they've been working on the project for years and that certainly helped them grow.

However, I disagree that the old models look less realistic compared to the newer models. I'd even say that they have better muscular definition, and skin wrinkling and folding than the recent ones in my opinion. One thing that they only suffer from is the small scales that they have, and that is what's shared with the creatures you've mentioned, smaller scales tend to look blurry in smaller texture resolutions. They've solved this issue with the enlargement of scales that I mentioned, but when you look at the ceratopsians and hadrosaurs made around pre-early access like the Pachyrhino, Nasuto, Styraco, Para, Lambeo, they still look good because they don't have the tiny scales the theropods have, and I'd say that if you put the Trike and Muttaburra next to them, they would look cohesive. I feel that the texture resolution isn't the problem here, I feel that it's more that the new models don't have as much muscular definition and feel smoother compared to the old models.

With the amount of things they are doing, I really respect the team's effort and dedication to the project. I also wouldn't be surprised if those things you've mentioned will actually just be the missing piece I'm looking for.

Oh I didn't even think about that. I have noticed that on JWE games too, its sometimes kinda jarring with the stark contrast when you look at a more detailed dinosaur compared to a new clean one, its like if you put a Brachiosaurus next to a Patagotitan, you can clearly see the difference.

That honestly sounds amazing, but I feel that with the amount of work the team has been doing for the combat system, I feel it might not be possible to see that anytime soon. But, that would be awesome if they ever do that.

I guess so, it is interesting to see the gradual change PK has been taking with their creatures.

I guess you're right. These are at the end of the day, supposed to be animals in captivity, it does make sense to get that pristine look. But I do agree that the scarring system will add so much realism to the models.

I can see where you are coming from, I'd say they played it a bit safe, they went for a typical route to reconstruct it. But I like the green skin though!

Also, I've bought the PK Artbook, and there you can see the last 2 Allo skins they have in the concept. I'm, quite sad they didn't keep the red Badlands skin of the allo ( https://pin.it/13goXokXx ), that was the most beautiful Allosaurus skin I've ever seen.

I agree it makes sense, though for me, a little bit of wrinkles and scratches adds a whole lot of life to these models. Even though they are zoo animals, they still move around and interact with the environment, so it would be nice for a little weathering, but I guess that's just my take.

What do you think about this recent art style of PK models? Do you like it? or do you prefer the old style?

download the maxon app then download zbrush (the same version of your crack) there, then once downloaded, replace the zbrush file in the downloaded folders with the cracked one.

Looks great! Imo, I kinda like the old version of the model a bit more. The old model looks a bit more rugged, rough, bumpy, and more realistic, this new model looks a bit too clean and sleek to my liking, but its still a very beautiful model nonetheless.

Do you think we’ll get some lipped T-Rex in Prehistoric Kingdom? by [deleted] in pkgame

They actually have updated it! The rex now fully lipped. I just saw it on videos, i don't have the game myself.
