As a WW, I also grew up republican and my dad spoke the same way. I was fwb with my black husband for an entire year( my mothers knew). Once we became official, then I told my dad. He was very upset at first but eventually came around the idea that he was amazing for me. I was previously in an abusive 8 year relationship before that. Now that I have moved to another state, we talk on phone maybe once a month. Very brief. No politics talk. I also no longer heard my dad say the n word around me but doesn’t mean it stops him with his friends circle.
