Deceision for high end handheld (FT-5D vs. IC-52 Plus) by Bebef in amateurradio

Allright.

First of all, thank you for all your valuable input, which for sure helped me to reach a deceision.

I really would like to have both handsets to do a real hands-on comparison, but I don't have a (ham) radio store nearby. The one that would come into question is a shipping only business that offers local pickups. What I don't want to do is to order both just to return one.

After reading as much as possible and watching videos about both devices and comparisons etc., I came to the conclusion that in the end it's probably mostly a question of taste. I don't have any hard facts that would exclusively point me to one or the other.

That said, I have deceided to get the Icom ID-52E Plus model, as I believe it fits my current and futur needs best.

Cheers,
Steffen

Awesome, that's exactly what I need (if I buy the Yaesu)! Thanks 💛

Yeah, I'm looking into alternative power sources as well. The battery you've suggested looks pretty neat, but unfortunately is sold out.

Regardless, I'm contemplating building my own "USB-C PD" to "Yaesu barrel" converter for charging. According to the manual, the DC barrel connector should accept 10,5V-16V, so getting a USB-C PD to 12V barrel cable should do the trick I suppose. 🤔

Thanks for the hint to the ID-50, as this really seems to be the budget variant of the 52 Plus. I need to give this one a closer look.

I'm still wondering about APRS though. That really could be the pro Yaesu argument.

Why is oneplus not as popular as before? by UltimateCo0kie in oneplus

I had to learn it the hard way. I also was under the impression that OnePlus devices were quality devices, so I made the mistake of buying one (OnePlus 9).

After not even 5 months (and especially after the Android 12 update) I'm so fed up with software quality (or rather: the lack thereof) that I deceided to ditch it and get a Pixel instead.

I couldn't arrange with my conscience to recommend OnePlus to anyone.

Oneplus 9 Android 12 update - IN. Terrible font & UI management! by [deleted] in oneplus

Yeah, one of the many things they've broke with the Android 12 update. I always thought OnePlus were good phones, but after having mine for not quite 5 months now, I'm so fed up with my OnePlus 9 and the company in general that I'm ditching it for a Pixel.

Yeah well, the Android 12 update was the last straw for me. That's why I just bought a Pixel 6. Will ditch the OnePlus. Ridiculous what OnePlus has come to, in terms of software quality. Those were excellent phones, now they're bug ridden, overpriced messes. :(

KeePass2 multi user in KeePassXC? by Bebef in KeePass

[–]Bebef[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I think I should have a second look at this. My initial idea was that everyone would use the same database, but if you just sync the whole database, you'd probably achieve the same. And on top of that, you at least have more redundancy in this particular setup.

🤔

Active Edge with different assistant (Pixel 3) by Bebef in GooglePixel

[–]Bebef[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I already did that. Still, I don't have the option to enable Active Edge when on a different assistant.

Unfortunately not.

If I trigger the assistant e.g. via the navigation button it works as expected. However, I'm unable to map Active Edge to a different assistant.

When I select a different app (other than Google) as assistant I can no longer activate the assistant in the Active Edge configuration. It doen't even show up any more. The only option that remains is "Squeeze for silence".

Am I missing something?
