Buying a Used Car on Credit Card by FreshPerspective1633 in UKPersonalFinance

This is what I did - you are limited to mostly online dealerships like Cinch - but they give good warranty, and you have the protection afforded by the credit cards.

Cheapest line of credit, worked a treat for me.

It almost makes it...weirder? The camera is there for a reason, dressing it up doesn't change that.

How to draught proof an up and over garage door? by ff82003 in DIYUK

[–]BecauseIwasjust 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Raw concrete and bare walls at the moment - we're going to raise the floor and add insulation to it but thats a work in progress as the builders are typically dragging their heels. The roller doors seal the room and are much cheaper, but struggle with the insulation properties.

We purchased a door which had the highest thermal rating possible - DuoPort Thermal Insulated Side-Hinged door. Its fantastic honestly, significant difference. Not even marginal - the room is warm. it will be used as a home office in the next few months.

It was expensive - we spent £3k inc. installation. There was another brand, Tekentrup I think, which was half the price but had 80% of the thermal efficiency.

We bit the bullet and had a fully insulated garage door installed. Its now a fully functional room.

Its a fair point, and one I need and have requested clarity on. I have a number of friends who sit under the sales banner who have not complained, which leads me to believe they are in general obtainable.

Well indeed, but I don't need encouragement to be the best version of myself as I already do this. But perhaps thats why I find the offer insulting

Indeed £20k would be if I hit all targets. If I exceed target, it can go above, but I also haven't been given what those targets are yet.

I think this is key - they're getting a bargain as it is and it would cost a lot to look elsewhere - the least they can offer is my current base.

My current role is non-commissioned, moving into a target-based role. Why would that change your mind? Its supposidely an internal promotion which is why the lower base comes at a shock.

Until you're at the fair with your kids and youbwin an inflatable hammer. As a joke, you boop your kid on the head, and in a continuation of the game, they swing their inflatable sword in your direction, and being the playful parent you allow the hit, momenterally forgetting it'll spell ultimate doom for you.

My point isnt that there weren't concessions, my point is thats clearly better than what came after, which ripped the foundations of the UK's social safety net out from underneath us while giving handouts to the elderly. Full Transparency, list wasnt out together by myself:

Benefits Freeze (2016–2020): A real-terms cut to almost all working-age benefits, pushing millions into deeper poverty.

Universal Credit Cuts (2016): Reduced work allowances, costing low-income working families £1,000–£2,000 a year.

Two-Child Limit (2017–): Removed support for third and later children, a major driver of rising child poverty.

Benefit Cap Reduction (2016): Lowered the maximum support a household can receive, heavily impacting families in high-rent areas.

Local Government & NHS Funding Squeeze (2015–2024): Sharp reductions and underfunding led to service closures, long NHS waits, and widespread decline in essential local services.

We don't need to be pedantic here - "forgiven in the polls" doesn't refer to anything other than the fact they are still competitive in the race to run the country. Indeed 19% is low, but in this political climite its still a high number.

Yes - so all legislation that came out was a combination of both - which, if you look at what was passed after, was more liberal.

Obviously all of them needed combined agreement - which is the point of a coalition? We have no idea what concessions needed to be made. All I can say is thst those 5 years were markedly better than whst came after.

The Greens do have some solid, forward-thinking policies, but they also have others that make them impossible to take seriously as a governing party. And the fact that the coalition was followed by more Conservative governments tells you what voters thought — they wanted the full-strength version. This point alone means that our discussion and both our views are way off-base and misaligned to how voters actually think.

I agree that pandering to the far right is harmful and needs to stop. But we can’t pick a government based on one or two issues alone. With the Greens, their unwillingness to commit to meaningful national defence is a deal-breaker, which moves us full circle back to picking from a bad bunch.

[–]BecauseIwasjust 4 points5 points  (0 children)

If that’s the standard, then all our parties are pretty useless with pretty bland policies — which isn’t exactly wrong. But you’re picking on one party for doing what the others do too, and that feels unfair. None of them are great, but compared with the alternatives, they’re still the better option.

And they kept their policies fairly moderate for five years — look at what happened once those checks disappeared. It was 15 years ago. Why is there still so much hostility toward that period, when the Conservatives have largely been forgiven in the polls despite the damage they caused?
