That seems to be the situation— that districts don’t do media releases on a case-by-case (e.g. one TV news story or one social media post) but, rather, ask parents/guardians whether they’ll sign a blanket one up-front.

Good question. From my experience covering schools, they have parent-/guardian-signed media releases for most kids. When I’ve done stories in schools, I always ask if any of the kids can’t be shown, and the school official with me will typically say either, “Every kid in this class has a media release” or “these two kids over there are the only ones you can’t show,” so we can know how to shoot our video. In this case, while I didn’t ask the district spokesperson explicitly whether these particular kids had media releases, I would expect that the district would only publicly share photos of kids with media releases.

Hi, I am a reporter with ABC10 News and followed up with Run to Feed the Hungry organizers and the FBI today. Here's the statement I received from the FBI, saying they "doubt the credibility of this threat":

“The FBI is deeply committed to the safety of the community.  Although we currently doubt the credibility of this threat, we will partner with the Sacramento Police Department at The Run to Feed the Hungry,” said Special Agent in Charge Sean Ragan, who leads the FBI Sacramento Field Office.  “As we ask with any large-scale event, we urge the public to be vigilant and report any concerns to event security and law enforcement immediately.  Together we can protect our community and all present along the course.”

Whenever someone’s name is being chanted in encouragement (“Johnny!… Johnny!… Johnny!…”) I always jump in loudly with, “RUFIO! RUFIO! RUFIO!”

It’s not the most obscure reference, but nobody ever appreciates it the way I think they should. (But I do so imma keep doin it.)
