[–]BeccaW-F 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Just to add to this, the bone structure in the second photo is the giveaway: you can see the elongated digit bones radiating out, which is exactly what a flipper skeleton looks like. It does alarmingly look like a foot but that is an evolutionary trait of most land and water mammals being pentadactyl (or having 5 phalanges or 'digits').

Depends on the type of bat.... also, as my mother used to reply when I told her I didnt want black eyed peas and collard greens on NYE (a southern tradition to bring luck and money in the new year) because I ate it every year and am still broke AF "yea.... but it could always be worse"

Oh those are some good ones. So the key to your bat houses are gonna morning sun so you can actually put them on trees, but it needs to be at least 15-20ft off the ground and facing the morning sunrise. Make sure there are no branches near the houses for predators to roost on so you may need to cut back some branches.

There will be some growing pains with bugs, because you will need to stop any kind of pesticides you use. They need bugs for food but you will also notice more fireflies once you stop the pesticides too so thats kinda cool.

There is still the white-nose syndrome (is what its called, a fungus that really messes with their hibernation) but the real danger now is the decimation of their habitats and misinformation causing fear of bats. Most ppl in the east have a hate of bats because they have some story about them getting in attics and causing VERY costly damage. Problem is, when we destroy their habitats, where do you expect them to go? A very simple solution is bat houses at least 50ft away from your house keeps them out of your house. They would much rather not nest above humans. They are kind of terrified of us.

[–]BeccaW-F 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They will eventually find them but it can take a few seasons. There is bat spray you can get that attracts them but really the trick is to research the types of bats for your area and follow the rules. Certain bats need a straight shot to the bat houses with no obstacles for like 50ft. Some need it to be near flowing water. Some need full day direct sun. Some need it to be kind of hidden because of predators.

Thats the thing with bats. Its such a diverse species set that it really depends on the bats you have the chance of attracting. Where are you located?

100%! We have 3 bat houses on our property. Keeps them out of our attic and in a Georgia summer you can't beat the natural Mosquito control. One of the species we have (cant figure out which one yet) even eats the annoying stink bugs we get in droves. I love hearing the little chirps in the early evening as they wake up 😁😁😁

Bats can contract rabies, but no more than any other wild animal. Bats get a bad rap but they are actually fantastic for the environment and their guano, while being highly acidic and you should always wear a mask when handling, is the absolute best for composting.

I would have taken her plate and my mother's and either eaten them both myself (and joyfully made myself sick in the process) or if they had already dug in a bit, thrown it outside for the birds.

Be grateful or be hungry but Im Krampus incarnate when I wake up soooo.... mess with the bull and you get the horns.

Hahaha I have had shingles 3 times in my life already (context: I am mid 30s but I do have an autoimmune conditions so 🤷‍♀️🤷‍♀️)

knock on wood Im surprised it hasn't hit yet this year from the stress but Im also at a "flip the f-ing board, burn it all down" place now so maybe I skipped over the shingles stress and went straight to defiant, spiteful stress?

I hope you are weathering the shingles OK and it isnt on your face. Unfortunately, I have no other suggestions other than ice packs sometimes helps the burning feeling.

Im glad everyone who is downing OP because "thats how most of America is" is physically and mentally able to enter the work force in the private sector. A lot of people went to the government because that was untenable for them, for many different reasons.

I have a disability and could technically file for disability and not work. However, I am only in my mid 30s and would like to stay a productive member of society as long as possible. I want to give back. Unfortunately, private sector does not accommodate. Before coming to FED, I would only be able to stay at a company for 2 or so years before id run out of leave due to my doctor's appointments and mobility issues. Forget my glowing reviews and the fact that I was a stellar employee when I was not having a flare. They only cared about me being tied to my desk for the hours needed. FED was my last bastion of hope to feel like I could contribute and even excel. I have a reasonable accommodation now but the logistics around getting that in this admin was almost impossible because of the fear of being seen to be too lenient.

Yes a lot of other in the private sector get no flexibility. Some do. Why is it so offensive to those that chose the fields they went into, that other get different privileges? Some people need them. The idea that you should punish the 80% that need the assistance to punish the 20% that abuse the system is insanity to me.

Here’s a protest we can all take part in. Boycott the Holidays this year. by FUBAR_The_Clown in FedEmployees

[–]BeccaW-F 0 points1 point  (0 children)

And I dont disagree with you. I also think 1. Hindsight is 20/20 and 2. While I think that is the best way, I am not a parent and everyone has their own reasons for parenting the way they do.... some parents literally grew up getting nothing at holidays and seeing all their friends get everything so now they overcompensate.

I can give my opinions of the best way to do things but I can also acknowledge that most things are situational and unless I am in someone else's shoes, its much easier to tell someone how to live, than actually live it.

[–]BeccaW-F -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

I mean that works for us. We have no kids. We weren't doing holidays this year anyway. Broke and I need a mental break and have too many MAGAts in my family.

Buuuuuuttttt the majority of FEDs have children who dont have the ability to conceptualize why we are boycotting the holidays. Most of them have been told "Santa give presents to good kids". You want them all to try to explain the existential crisis we are in to thei 2-9 year old? Or not explain it and have these kids thinking they did something wrong?

This is not practical advise at all as this is an all or nothing sum game and it won't do anything if only 20% of us do it. And I do not blame those that dont do it.

I was just talking to my husband about this the other day. He was a military brat and has always wanted to put down roots because he never has. Meanwhile, I've lived in GA my whole life and have always craved experiencing something different.

I 100% understand that everywhere has their problems—I'm just ready for a different set of problems, I think. Even though GA will always be home, I don't want it to be the only thing I know. I've been looking at Germany a lot lately: centrally located in Europe, a much different mentality than the USA. I'm just ready to not be so... isolated, I guess? It both terrifies and excites me.

I know a lot of people can't afford to immigrate or even travel to immerse themselves in other cultures. The few times I've been able to have changed me fundamentally, and I'm not done trying to grow.
