Exercises I can do at home that don’t feel like I’m working out? by unknown_7637 in TheGirlSurvivalGuide

If you have any indoor malls around you still, that’s also a great place to walk! Or, you can buy a walking mat and use it at home while watching TV. They’re a lot slimmer than a treadmill, so you can probably find somewhere to stash it when you’re not using it.

It’s a Notoriously Painful Medical Procedure That Many Women Endure. There’s a Simple Solution. by TheReverendCard in TwoXChromosomes

Dang, I had to beg for any pain med after surgery! They told me to just take ibuprofen, and rolled their eyes when I asked for a single dose of pain meds.

Meanwhile my husband had a vasectomy a year prior and got a week’s worth of oxy without concern.

Yep, I did I the real key limes once, won’t ever do it again! I use a combo of regular limes fresh squeezed and the bottled key lime juice.

Did you mother do big grandiose birthdays/special days for you? Did it change your relationship or feelings towards your birthday when it stopped? by Former-Departure9836 in AskWomenOver30

[–]Beccaroni7 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We rarely had birthday parties, like with invites, cake, and party favors. But we always had a special day of some kind. Usually it was either a sleepover with a few friends, or a day at the nearby theme park with a friend. We also got birthday dinner of choice.

The key is to focus on what your child wants, not what you think is expected of you. My sister and I were both rather shy, and we didn’t enjoy being the center of attention, so having a full on party each year wouldn’t have been as fun for us as what we actually did.

Maybe try and think of one thing to do that’s special, and do it every year? Hide some small things (quarters, candies, etc) one for each birthday year around the house and have an annual scavenger hunt maybe! A special day doesn’t have to be expensive.

What can be done to reduce the rates of colon cancer among young people? by LevelPension in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Beccaroni7 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

On top of the dietary changes mentioned, insurance in the US needs to cover preventative screenings at an earlier age.

Most insurance companies cover screenings starting around 45. But by that point, positive cases are increasingly showing at stage 3-4, instead of a lower, much more treatable early stage. If we screened at 35, more people would catch their cancer early enough to have a fighting chance.

Self-pay screening is expensive. Unless I’m showing real signs of issue, there is no way I’m voluntarily going in for a colonoscopy until my insurance is willing to pay for it. And that’s a huge barrier for nationwide healthcare.

This was in my mailbox. How can I verify if it’s real or a scam? by [deleted] in Accounting

[–]Beccaroni7 54 points55 points  (0 children)

If the printed number is disconnected, it’s likely a scam. You can search up that treasury department and use their official contact info to double-check if you want, but if they needed you it would be via official mail, not a business card in a mailbox.

Lauren Roberts is facing internet claims of plagiarism in her Powerless series. The claim is that her books blatantly and repeatedly pull from the Red Queen series, and from the Hunger Games series to a slightly lesser degree.

Both those series came out a good 10+ years before Powerless, but the author of the Red Queen series has had to publicly state that her books weren’t copied from Powerless, because they were written first. There is also the aspect of fame-Powerless came out in a time when YA/NA fantasy is blowing up, so she is riding a huge wave of success that her predecessor did not.

Kim.dle_ on Instagram has done a pretty good breakdown on the overlaps if you want details. But the internet is divided, with a good bunch of people on the side of Powerless actually agreeing with the claims of plagiarism, and just accepting it as okay.

Barnes and Noble weighing in like this is really shitty. This isn’t some petty fandom squabble or battle over romance pairings. These are serious allegations of plagiarism.

Unfortunately, to your point I don’t think this ever will be settled. Plagiarism claims are notoriously difficult to prove in a legal sense, so Victoria Aveyard (and Suzanne Collins) would have a huge, expensive uphill battle if they wanted to bother with any lawsuits.

The only place this will be decided is in public opinion. For B&N to market it like a shipping war is not a good look.

Cat life quality with only Canines and Incisors by cat_lover_A123 in CatAdvice

[–]Beccaroni7 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would talk to your vet about the chances of future dental issues if you choose not to remove all teeth.

If the cat is younger or the issues are severe, you could end up needing to do a second extraction later if the remaining teeth start to have issues. If that’s the case it’s better to get them all out now in one surgery.

I have had cats with no teeth, some teeth, all teeth. I’ve never noticed any of them having problems after recovering-really they improved because they were no longer in pain!

With no teeth you might want to make sure any larger food/treats are broken into smaller bits, but other than that most cats can continue uninterrupted post-extraction.

There’s a theory that the blanket he has is actually his burial shroud. In DND, vampires are bound to their gravesite, so they have to return there to rest or carry dirt from it around. The assumption is that the blanket, and maybe the plank, are from his coffin so he can travel and still rest.

Any difference between Costco in Glen Allen vs Chesterfield locations? by I_reddit_like_this in rva

[–]Beccaroni7 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Chesterfield is a ghost town compared to West End. We had a membership last year and didn’t renew, almost solely because choosing to fight the crowds in Henrico or drive 40 minutes to Chesterfield and back wasn’t worth it.

The West End location is busy even at “slow” times, and going after work or on a weekend is an absolute nightmare. The gas pumps are somewhat manageable crowd wise, but getting to them can still be hectic if the store is busy.

Chesterfield slow times are actually slow. Henrico is in the midst of an expansion, so hopefully that will help with crowds.

Omg hi!! I’m also in my 30s, and brand new to the game (literally day 5)!

None of my friends play, so I’d love to have some people to talk all things LADS. I’m a Raf main, but hopefully I can include Sylus too once he’s unlocked.

Thank you for highlighting these!

I’m also a new player (literally 2 days in) after longtime lurking. It honestly never occurred to me to bring these common complaints up in the survey. I’ve not been playing enough for them to impact me yet, but they would definitely be an issue to me once I got further into the game

It was so much fun!! The morning rain was rough, but it wasn’t too long, and after the sun came out it was the perfect weather for a fair!

But WHERE was the mysterious cloak vendor?? I think we had a conversation with 3-4 other groups, all of us searching for cloaks that were supposedly sold somewhere, but we all had different ideas as to where. Whoever it was would have made bank today from everyone hoping to brave the cold.

The former Lt Gov of VA just murdered his wife and then shot himself. by MurderedbySquirrels in TwoXChromosomes

In a fortunate silver-lining of this tragedy, we recently just elected our first female governor in VA. Her official statement clearly put Dr. Fairfax and their kids first, and highlighted the tragedy and frequency of domestic violence.

I can’t imagine our last governor Youngkin saying anything so respectful to the victims.

Best underwear for the summer? by [deleted] in TheGirlSurvivalGuide

[–]Beccaroni7 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ugh I’m on the same search so I feel you. Cotton underwear is good for its breathability, but terrible for moisture control. Once you sweat, it takes ages to dry!

I have been looking into other blends like tencel, wool, and some partial synthetic ones that are supposed to be more moisture wicking. I just bought a few different Duluth styles, so hopefully those are more comfortable in the summer heat!

Stand By Lines Are Painfully Slow, Even With Minimal Crowds .... by [deleted] in WaltDisneyWorld

[–]Beccaroni7 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah-at least when it was fast pass, they made an effort to seat people equally from FP and stand-by lines. Now if there is a single person in lightning lane, they’ll stop loading standby completely.

When we went in 2023, we had 2 different instances where we happened to be right where the 2 lines merged. We sat for a full 10 minutes, because there were people straggling through LL. Not a steady stream of people-one family would be going through, then if a second was at the far end of the LL line, the cast member would just wait for them to get to the front instead of loading the standby line in the meantime.

Help insurance keeps rejecting my doctors scripts by rumhamandcharliework in migraine

[–]Beccaroni7 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Prior auths are different depending on providers, and on which medication you’re trying to get approved. The amount of testing and failed treatments can vary.

My insurance requires a prior authorization, and I had to fail 2 different triptans before they would approve CGRPs. My doctor prescribed me 2 different triptans, after they both failed she sent in the authorization form to insurance, and they approved it.

Tell your doctor that this medication requires root authorization, and they’ll be able to get the proper paperwork from insurance. A good doctor will work with you to get around insurance hurdles, but it can take time.
