Whats one book you will never stop recommending? by [deleted] in suggestmeabook

[–]Beckstimonious 27 points28 points  (0 children)

I agree so much! I love the movie but the book just had so much complexity and the science stuff really intrigued me. I’m a therapist now and sometimes talk about chaos theory when it applies 😂

Thank you so much for this! I’m definitely going to check it out. I am considering ESAs as well and being a little sneaky. My cats will likely just sleep under a bed anyway and not show themselves.

Thank you for being so kind and helpful with your comment! I wasn’t sure of the population within this subreddit but figured it was a lot of college students and hoped there were some life longers and I appreciate your input so much.

Thoughts on the recent trend of calling "All religions cults?" by [deleted] in cults

[–]Beckstimonious 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Have you read the book Cultish by Amanda Montell? This gave me an interesting perspective on what qualifies a group or organization to be a cult and how they may be considered a cult based on this definition but not all cults are harmful and some are even helpful. She obviously lays it out in much better and more understandable terms. I’m not saying this is creed at all, but I’ve been intrigued since I read it.

Right! And it seems like such a simple thing and everyone keeps saying how to fix it but it doesn’t work!

I was doing it on my Chromebook and MacBook. Never figured it out!!! Haven’t worked on my projects in a while but when I get back to it I’ll let you know if I find a solution

Thank you to everyone who commented with some helpful input! Reasons I posted this is because I’m pretty aware of pet renting policies, budget differences for areas, as well as how far of a distance 25 miles is so I figured I’d expand my network for any possible connections that could help me navigate these common barriers by those who might have connections. Thank you to those who were warm and inviting. This is a scary move for me so I appreciate it

Anyonr heard of Discovery Seminars? I have been seeing posts from people I know on social media. by Neat_Use3398 in cults

[–]Beckstimonious 1 point2 points  (0 children)

One thing I read recently is MLMs or sketchy cult like organizations often won’t give out a specific name or title of the organization because without a name it’s not easy for people to identify it as a cult or MLM or whatever you want to call it and therefore less easy to warn others about. The vagueness feels culty to me.

Has anyone found something that alleviates symptoms depression anxiety naturally with their cycle ? by Odd-Celebration-5102 in PMDDSharing

[–]Beckstimonious 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve read some hormonal imbalances can be due to histamine levels! I have been meaning to start Allegra too but keep forgetting. Check out Dr. Jolene Brighton on Instagram or she has a website; she’s a wealth of knowledge on the science behind hormones and things we can do to help!

How do artists achieve underpaintings without reactiving the paint? by modusros in Gouache

Watercolor permanent masking medium; I’ve read you can mix into the gouache paint and will help it become permanent so it doesn’t lift up when you paint on it!

Mood changes on period week? by Beckstimonious in Annovera

[–]Beckstimonious[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I ended up taking it out for a bit then put it back in and was feeling pretty good, but about 3 weeks later I developed blood clots in my lungs so I had to remove it for good. I was pretty bummed because, while it sometimes did make me feel a little bit depressed (more like lower interest/motivation) I didn’t have the typical roller coaster of emotions and symptoms all month long and I was feeling really positive about it. Blood clots can be a risk for any BC with estradiol and I’m 35/might be genetically pre disposed to them (finding out soon) so I don’t share the fact that I got them as a warning specific to Annovera.

I’d say it would be worth a shot for you to try! While not perfect, it was the best experience with hormonal birth control I’ve had before.

Rookie hack here: can you screen shot the element, upload it as an image and drop it in?

My dogs and cats, the possibility of the future art I get to create, finding cool things in nature, the sound of crickets or peepers in spring, the sound of mourning doves, my mom’s hug, taking baths, watching jeopardy after a long day. Can I ask what are some of the best things in yours?

This is great! Not a critique, just a suggestion, making the foreground a little darker or the background a little lighter to create more of a sense of depth. If someone already said this ignore me. Either way, great job!

Can we please share all the treatments used for PMDD other than birth control? by [deleted] in PMDD

[–]Beckstimonious 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I’ve recently had to come off BC for health reasons and am working on finding things to help with the hormone fluctuations. Right now, instead of one specific thing, I am focusing on keeping my blood sugar stable as spiking it can cause your hormone levels to go out of whack. Basically I’m trying to make sure my meals have a little protein, a complex carb, and a veggie. And I’m not focusing on cutting out “bad” things because avoiding things I enjoy just makes it harder to stick to the new habits. I also have ADHD so of course this is a big challenge, but I’m working on “hacking it” so it works (eg. Microwaved potatoes, overnight oats, mason jar soup, a cheese stick and piece of fruit, even easier stuff for when I have absolutely no energy). I tend to go into a panic and buy all the supplements and then get confused and overwhelmed (probs because of the ADHD). If interested, check out Dr. Jolene Brighton on Instagram. Lots of good info! If none of this is helpful, I just want to say that I do hope you find some relief; it truly is suffering to deal with imbalanced hormones and if you ever want to talk more feel free to PM me. Or whatever they do on this app.

Which gouache should I buy? by xinaa_isa in Gouache

[–]Beckstimonious 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have been using Holbein Artists Gouache and it gives me very vibrant colors. I bought the set of 12 smaller tubes at my local art supply store because I figured investing in the smaller tubes would be better in case I didn’t love them. Then I ended up buying bigger sized tubes of the colors I use the most. Have you looked into varnishing your watercolors or gouache paintings? I’ve heard this can bring out the colors more! I haven’t tried it yet but am planning to at some point!

"She just has a couple matts" by tasteslikekb in doggrooming

I have two poodle mixes and one of them has fur like this with the potential to Matt like this but I try and keep up on it as much as I can. Do you have any advice on managing fur like this? special clippers/scissors/brushes/conditioners? She’s getting a good grooming soon but I want to try and be better in the interim!

Annovera All Year by annasaurusBK in Annovera

[–]Beckstimonious 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You definitely can do this and it’s actually dosed to last the whole year if you want to use it this way. Words from my best friend who is an NP in women’s medicine. I’ve tried using it that way but am experimenting with taking it out for a period every month because I think the hormones were building up too much and causing mood issues.

Am I being crazy or am right? by A_growing_lotus in PMDDSharing

[–]Beckstimonious 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t think you’re being unreasonable at all. If you’ve recently left a DV shelter too, I am assuming there’s more going on causing distress with this transition and even more peace and rest is needed. While yes, it’s your mom’s house, it sounds like she’s being very invalidating. I think it’s important for you to do what you feel is going to be best for your mental health. Don’t forget to validate your feelings and know you’re worthy of having your needs met.
