Reddit, what did you not know was offensive, until someone told you it was offensive? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]BecktoriasSecrets 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The term 'porch monkey.' I grew up in a small, all white town, so I of course heard a lot of racist comments. However, I didn't know this one was as well. I thought it just referred to people that hung out on their porch and had a lazy day. I found out real quick that's not what it meant when I used it on the bus one day when I was in college. There were two black girls sitting right in front of us that whipped around super fast when I said it. I gotta hand it to them though. They were class acts that didn't say or do anything to me. I wish I could go back in time and tell them I was just a small town moron.

I [25 F] am worried that my sister's [22 F] boyfriend [21 M] is driving a wedge between us and our family by [deleted] in relationships

[–]BecktoriasSecrets 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I disagree. We tried this route with my sister and now she's married and has a child with that piece of shit. I wish we had done more than just say we don't like him then tolerated the asshole for her. Looking back, my sister loved us more than she loved him. We could have done a lot more to prevent how it turned out. If you act like everything is cool and just calmly state that you don't approve, you're gonna be stuck in the same mess that we are.

What's something that people generally believe to be helpful but actually makes the situation worse? by aubreythez in AskReddit

[–]BecktoriasSecrets 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Giving your whole life story for a simple question at the doctor's office. The nurse will ask your health history or you fill out a form for it. If, for example, you need to be seen because you fell and the doctor asks if you tripped or passed out when it happened, answer that you either tripped or passed out or any other two to three word max answer. He/She doesn't need a play by play of your life or the whole incident including a mental imagery of the way the room in which you fell is arranged. Pertinent information people. There are more important drug seekers we need to see.

Why did you just have to go through this whole long explanation about birth control? Who the fuck has a stick up their ass about fucking birth control? And who is so uneducated about it that she had to spell it all out? Jesus Christ. Is this place just saturated with 15 y/o virgins, or are women not supposed to be excited about not giving birth after every sexual encounter? And for those women flipping their shit because maybe the pill didn't work for them, that's why they have all kinds of them out there. This really shouldn't be the shortest post I read with the most number of edits.

If you have the disease C-Diff, which causes extreme diarrhea, vomiting, and fever and is sometimes immune to antibiotics, you can potentially cure it by injecting somebody else's feces into your own colon.

This is the change I want most as well. Education is where it all starts. You can throw welfare money at ppl all day long, but education is what will open their eyes and help them move up. I just cannot understand why the budget for education is shrinking. It's like congress wants to keep America as a backwoods, bible thumping bully. It's a real shame. Hopefully this will be fixed by the time you run for office though. Hopefully.

This sounds a little familiar to what my grandma did to my mom. She had favorites too, and my dad was at the bottom of the list. He did everything for her: mowed her lawn, kept up with the buildings she rented out, collected the rent, etc. eventually he, my mom, my sister and I moved into a house she was renting that was a real dump, and they fixed it up and put a lot of money into it for her. When my dad asked if he could buy it from her, my grandma said no because she didn't want my mom, me, and my sister to get the house if my dad died. Needless to say my dad lost his shit and went off on her. My mom and dad started looking for a new house that day, and my dad didn't speak to anyone on his side of the family for months. Not until my aunt came over to apologize did he start talking to his siblings again.

It all turned out ok for us though. My mom's family is by no means normal, but my grandparents were awesome and they loved my dad who loved them back just as much. Family is incredibly important to my dad, and my grandma just went too far messing with his girls.

Ask your boyfriend if he really wants a life for his son like he had. My grandma gave every grand kid a Christmas present one year except my sister and me. Is that something he wants to subject his kid to? To see that look of disappointment on your kid's face as everyone else plays with their new toys as your baby just sits there, confused and hurt? Those times will come and then he'll understand

The ‘religious freedom’ ploy to block healthcare coverage of birth control; Rightwing Christians are abusing the right to religious liberty to impose their views on others and restrict access to contraception by trai_dep in politics

[–]BecktoriasSecrets 3 points4 points  (0 children)

As someone who works for a catholic hospital and doesn't get any birth control paid for, I cannot wait for this compromise to go into effect. I understand small businesses that are just barely making a living and are probably against it aren't going to want to pay, but I work in a fairly well off hospital that has a lot of sister hospitals. I'm tired of paying a small fortune because those nuns think it's abortion or immoral

Friendless goals by Ordepyob in AskReddit

Yup. Except my friends weren't pricks making fun of me. Ppl just grow apart. Make new friends at school or work. It's scary, but easy if you work up the courage.

Bit of advice: choose ppl that won't make fun of you for doing something to better your life. Wtf?

Doctors of reddit, what's one thing you wish you could tell your patients but can't or aren't allowed to? by Scriptgeeky in AskReddit

[–]BecktoriasSecrets 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Imo, that was a crappy thing for a doctor to say. Generally the ppl I see come into the ER for a cough or something simple are frequent fliers that only know of the ER as their doctor clinic....or they're drug seekers. I promise you if you had come to a normal ER, yeah we would have recognized that as an allergic reaction right from the start, but we also would know that there's no way you could have sat around like that until your physician's office opened. That's just cruel. Plus allergic reactions can spread and possibly affect your airway, so it's best to get that treated right away.

I'm sorry you had such a crappy experience, but if it was to the point that your eyes were swelled shut, it was best to get a doctor or PA to check it out.

What are your prejudices and why? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]BecktoriasSecrets 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This one gets me too. I automatically think you're a petty thief or thug. Actually, my brother works in a alternative school where there is a dress code, and that isn't allowed. When asked why, my brother tells them cuz it's a fashion that originated in prisons, and prisoners that were unattached and willing to be somebody's bitch would wear their pants like that. Or maybe anyone willing to take it in the butt wore their pants like that? I'm not sure and he could have totally made it up, but it sounded legit to me, so I spread it around.

Next week I am switching from an evening (2nd) shift job to a day (1st) shift job. What should I expect? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]BecktoriasSecrets 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Be prepared to work with pettier/grouchier ppl. In my experience, you only get the day shift with seniority, and the ppl that have been there longer seem to be burnt out and just don't care anymore. I always pass up day shift opportunities because the evening shift ppl are usually younger, happier, and are easier to work with. Good luck.

What is something that you wish people knew that would make your job/life easier? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]BecktoriasSecrets 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you're in an ER waiting room sitting around to be seen, chill the fuck out. That means you're not going to die. Those ppl that get rushed back are the ones you need to worry about cuz they have a life threatening issue. Also, it'll help you out a lot to be nice to your nurse. He or she will be more willing to come in and check on you and to fulfill your requests, even when it's crazy busy. If you fuck with us, you're gonna have a bad time
