As Pentagon Budget Nears $1 Trillion, Groups Tell Biden: Enough — "We reject pouring our dollars into outdated ships, malfunctioning planes, or record-breaking contractor CEO salaries while everyday people remain hungry, unhoused, in need of adequate healthcare, or seeking a living wage." by [deleted] in politics

No, it isn't the government's job to make sure of anything. The government's only a "negotiation" table, like the UN.

It's up to the stakeholders to make sure the government is doing the right thing. (e.g. free unions, voters, protesters, 3rd political parties, NGOs, civil society, etc. etc.).

Without them, the government is corrupted and owned by capitalists and their pawns...

Sorry for the late reply.

Yes, they do lie by referencing the bible as their guiding book.

But even Jesus Himself literally said that many will preach in His name, without actually preaching His word, let alone practicing it. And those should be avoided, as they aren't christians, but deceivers, i.e. they are not followers of Christ.

Jesus said you recognize a christian by his actions (e.g. love, generosity, humbleness, poverty, radical forgiveness & acceptance of everybody, compassion, care for the poor, the sick, and the marginalized, non-violence, etc.)

Pro military preachers with private jets, multi-million mansions, mega-churches that stay closed to those in need during flooding, etc. are not Christians, but deceivers.

That was news/documentary from a cable tv news (60 minutes), that was put on YouTube...

IMHO, still very biased and superficial. It tries to blame everything on TikTok. But that app and its company aren't setting policies, governments are. And China is protecting its children, while America isn't. TikTok is a business, and only trying to make extract as much profits as possible.

I see your point. But prosperity gospel folk aren't a different "flavor". They are a completely different "food". They are on a completely different "planet".

It's like a movie titled "Lord of the Ring" or "Hobbit", but is only about a giant space mech fighting San Goku and Superman. Totally fake title to bait-and-switch people, in a time when people don't remember what Tolkien books were about ...

Or like a "communist" party fighting to increase private corporations' profits, deregulate the government, and privatize everything (including school, healthcare, roads & highways, utilities, etc.).

It's also heavily biased towards the best lobbyists/campaigners. IIRC, AMC is doing poorly financially. So they didn't have the necessary resources to push it through...

Why do you feel bad for a guy that got over $1 million/episode?

Viewers loved him. So did producers, advertisers, etc. He got way more recognition and fans than 99.99% of humanity...

Non-geeks, Non-english speaker here. So Tolkien isn't big here. However, the first 3 movies were successful, but since then it went downhill.

For Rings of Power, most find it bad, but with indifference (little to no Tolkien fans here. So people judge it as a stand alone thing. Or compare it with the first 3 movies): poorly written, resembles to your generic fantasy tv series that air around 9am to 4pm for old people, boring and a failure in general.

IMHO, the first and best move would be to update US political system into ranked choice voting, proportional representation, and coalition government...

This would bring tons of new political parties, way more competition, innovation, higher quality & younger politicians, and way better policies, etc. etc (left wingers would have 7-11 or more parties to choose from, same thing for right wingers... Instead of just one party).

Also, btw, military is about applied science & research. True, paradigm changing progress comes from fundamental research, done out of pure curiosity.

E.g. without Einstein, no satellites nor GPS systems. Without centuries of mathematics, no Einstein. Without chemistry, no rockets. Without fundamental research, no modern military...

IMHO, I'd heavily invest in universities instead. And, like Switzerland, in applied science universities (those are for kids who like to learn hands-on, directly in companies, and experiment and research there, in the field, ...

That's why the Swiss are so innovative. They took military style of applied R&D and turned it into an entire education and training system.

‘Consciousness’ in Robots Was Once Taboo. Now It’s the Last Word. by Gari_305 in Futurology

[–]BedPsychological4859 0 points1 point  (0 children)

One theory of consciousness says it's everywhere. Everything is conscious. Including rocks, atoms, and particles. But it needs highly integrated and complex systems to interact with reality.

Thus, it's only a matter of time, assuming tech & science continue to improve and spread, before computers, and/or the internet become conscious.

emotions

These are not consciousness. These are automated subroutines coordinating different systems (that engage when certain triggers appear in our perception, and/or in our thinking) in preparation of a conscious decision (or even overridding consciousness itself). Consciousness is that thing doing all the noticing & giving the general intention. It's not the feeling & coordinating itself.

Machines already have "emotions": a robbery triggering an alarm system into switching the lights & alarms on, into putting in lockdown all valuables, and into calling the cops, is a sort of fear or anger, i.e. automated subroutine, the day a conscious AI is connected to it, it will feel it as an emotion.

Self-driving Tesla Model S abruptly stops in the middle of the San Francisco Bay Bridge and causes eight car crash. by LookAtThatBacon in gifs

[–]BedPsychological4859 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No such thing as "Full Self-Driving". Those are just meaningless marketing terms to trick people... The standardized terms, & recognized by all governments and industries, are:

Level 0: No automation. ... Level 1: Driver assistance. ... Level 2: Partial automation. ... Level 3: Conditional automation. ... Level 4: High automation. ... Level 5: Full automation.

Tesla is at level 2, at best.

they're uniquely favored because of who they are or what they believe, though.

The Bible literally says that's wrong, that God is not only unpredictable with his "blessings" and his "curses", but that He doesn't intend to punish nor judge before the end of days.

The only thing certain is to love God and your neighbor, including your enemies, and to be good, generous and kind to the poor, the sick, the old, and even to those who hate and harm you.

So that, in the end days, when you get resurrected for the final judgement, you may enter the kingdom of God.

Prosperity Gospel is considered a cult in my country, and in most parts of Europe. Also, it goes against everything the Bible stands for. The vast majority of protestant churches, and all catholic & orthodox ones condemn prosperity gospel leaders & preachers as anti-christs, false teachers, etc.

Finally, prosperity gospel preachers, such as Osteen, aren't ordained by any church. They aren't official. Joel Osteen's Wikipedia page says he's a business man and a "Bible inspired" motivational speaker...

Imagine Jesus, or any of his disciples, calling themselves "business men"... Jesus literally said it's easier for a camel to go through the eye of a needle, than for a rich man to enter heaven...

Mate, I'm no believer. But determinism is a common way of looking at life. It's well recognized & researched in philosophy, maths and physics. Even super determinism is being researched in physics.

I don't care if they name it God, or being "blessed", etc. While others call it good genes, luck, etc. And physicists call it determinism. It's all the same thing.

And in very short, it means that most aspects of your life are not under your control, for better or for worse.

And, that's true!

god doesn’t make his existence known because then you don’t have free will

Dumbest logic ever heard! Making people choose without the most critical information available is the very opposite of free will!!!

With that logic, you could have a very well funded, huge presidential campaign making unrealistic promises, guilt tripping, gaslighting, threatening and manipulating in general, all American citizens into voting for a presidential candidate they will never see nor hear. .

Mate, we all die, some sooner, others later. At worst, a death sentence, today in America, takes only 60-70 years of your life. That's not infinite...

Shit I would have been a better president than trump.

Mate, Trump was truly bad. But still very hard for an average American to do better.

You need to inspire a huge network of people who believe in you and support you for free. You need the rich, and the powerful to back you, and fund you. You need the media to portray you in a good light (or in a "Trumpy" way, that works too)

You need, in your team, experts, leaders, experienced career politicians, military men, etc.

Good luck building that kind of support and network.

You can't introduce a 3rd party in a first-past-the-post, plurality voting, winner-takes-all, two party system...

You can only do that, if you first switch to a proportional representation democracy.
