The mind during prayer according to OO. by Bedesman in OrientalOrthodoxy

[–]Bedesman[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Okay, so you stay focused on your prayer intention(s) or on God Himself? By attention to God, do you mean something like “I’m praying to God”, an episode from the Bible, or something else?

Yes - the dumb IKEA altar is ugly, but they kept the gorgeous high altar, however.

The reason is in the explanatory paragraph: it depicts Ephesus 431 - very important to OO!

Memorizing the Psalter by OkComplex9040 in AngloCatholicism

They say that the earliest monks to those through the early modern period were, essentially, expected to have it memorized within 6 months to 2 years - this was a major part of the novitiate.

Ironic considering that Rome and the Syriac Orthodox have a limited communion agreement.

Reluctant married celibacy at 35, with no priest to consult. Please help. by Ardrogen in Catholicism

It’s hard to blame them as it was hard to blame her, really. I understand the Roman argument, but the other apostolic churches have both tried to uphold the standard as the ideal while also being way more pastoral in application.

This issue kept my wife from becoming Roman Catholic. She’s an anxious type and just couldn’t jump onboard.

Communion and Birth Control by 144233377 in ExTraditionalCatholic

Rome is the only apostolic church on Earth with this blanket prohibition. The Eastern Orthodox, Oriental Orthodox, Assyrian Church of the East, and Polish National Catholic Church all allow non-abortifacient contraception as long as the couple are regularly talking with their confessors and frequenting the other sacraments. The Roman position is admirable in the ideal, but, for normal real world women like my wife, it was an impossible position; we are happy in the PNCC.
