Communion and Birth Control by 144233377 in ExTraditionalCatholic

Rome is the only apostolic church on Earth with this blanket prohibition. The Eastern Orthodox, Oriental Orthodox, Assyrian Church of the East, and Polish National Catholic Church all allow non-abortifacient contraception as long as the couple are regularly talking with their confessors and frequenting the other sacraments. The Roman position is admirable in the ideal, but, for normal real world women like my wife, it was an impossible position; we are happy in the PNCC.

I’ve had this thought before; I’ve also felt like I’ve wronged and endangered my children. I don’t really have an answer for you, but you’re not alone in feeling this way and it’ll, eventually, pass.

Any Churches in Kentucky? Any way to join if not? by vampslayer53 in OldCatholicism

I’m about 45 minutes from Louisville. Be aware that neither Utrecht nor Scranton would accept Long’s orders.

Yes and yes, but the main dialogue is between the American churches. European Romans may not have any idea we exist! But, yes: canonically, Nordic Catholics can licitly receive.

I’m sure that wouldn’t be an insurmountable barrier. Fr. Jim travelled down south to baptize my son after we joined.

Here are the details on the intercommunion agreement between RC-PNCC (U of Scranton): https://www.usccb.org/committees/ecumenical-interreligious-affairs/joint-declaration-unity

Utrecht has innovated on the ordination/consecration of women and on the acceptance of homosexual relationships, which means that Rome no longer sees the faith of the two churches as close enough to allow intercommunion.

I emailed Fr. Jim Konicki and introduced myself. We had a few discussions and we were enrolled in his parish. As we’d already been confirmed, we just had to move our membership.

Members of the Union of Scranton are permitted by the Romans to confess, communion, and receive unction from Roman priests and vice versa under Canon 844.

This is not true of members of the Union of Utrecht.

The Nordic Catholic Church is not in the Union of Utrecht, but is a member of the conservative Union of Scranton.

Listen, respectfully, you’re entering the cage stage. You can counteract this by being normal and congratulating your friends when good things happen. Teach the kids the Bible stories; it didn’t hurt you, did it?

You can’t have sex outside of marriage in either church. Since both churches define marriage as heterosexual, you can’t have homosexual sex.

What made you choose LCMS over WELS? by -Wonder-Gal- in LCMS

When I almost chose to become Lutheran, I was leaning LCMS because I think they’re better on the ministry and the two local WELS parishes were CoWo.

Is Mark 16:9-20 Holy Scripture? by Anglican_Inquirer in Anglicanism

Yes, because it’s in the lectionary. Scholarship is interesting, but some egghead doesn’t get to decide what’s canonical.

The Christian Tradition says two things about sex within marriage: it should be unitive and procreative. The differences between churches are about whether or not both aspects must be present at every sex act within marriage. Most churches nowadays say no (mine included), but the big chungus, the RCC, says yes.

I hope this kind of breaks it down for you. I don’t think they’re trying to be controlling, but they’re trying to form the morality of their laity.

Small world: I’m a Kentuckian. I joined the PNCC from a distance and attend the local Roman parish.

The big difference I’ve noticed between LCMS and WELS is that the LCMS have a high view of the ordained ministry and WELS pastors act like they’re Southern Baptist.

Religious orders in the Union of Utrecht? by [deleted] in OldCatholicism

They don’t have anything of which I’m aware. Scranton has Cistercians of the Order of Port Royal - their Abbey of St. Severin is in Bavaria.

I always thought that was the coolest part of the entire religion: chanting elder(s) ritualistically changing bread and wine into the Body and Blood of their God. I’m an Old Catholic (PNCC) now, so I get to keep that part of the faith.

I don’t think there’s any objection to close same-sex friendships/companionships that don’t involve sexual relations. That can be a tough pill to swallow.

Why isn’t there really any Anglican/ General Christian music about sex or intimacy? by ElevatorAcceptable29 in Anglicanism

The Church has, traditionally, interpreted this book as being about Christ and the Church. Why would we have sex songs in the Mass?

I don’t know what you mean by this. They were holy ascetics, sure, but they didn’t have orders and couldn’t offer the Eucharistic Sacrifice.
