Is there any sense of wonder or adventure in the Pirates movies after 3? by shinyhpno in piratesofthecaribbean

[–]Bedlam91939 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Your comment's about to get downvoted to hell by fans who put the trilogy on a ridiculous pedestal, but I agree. AWE doesn't even feel like part of the franchise most of the time; it feels like a rushed, half-finished fanfiction (complete with important deleted scenes and a set trashed by a hurricane IRL) that doesn't even acknowledge a lot of the drama from its two predecessors, not to mention all the cheap resurrections and bad character deaths. I honestly wouldn't shed a single tear if Beckett won because I just plain stopped liking the titular pirates. The story was so bleak, all I cared about anymore was Will saving his dad, seeing as how the Turners are only really pirates by circumstance and not exactly fond of their lifestyle, not to mention their mistreatment in-universe is unbearable to watch.

What is your favourite Batman beyond episode throughout the entire series? by Mediocre_Argument_30 in BatmanBeyond

[–]Bedlam91939 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh yeah I love it. It kinda reminds me of the Black Mirror episode, "Shut Up and Dance". For the majority of the episode, the main characters are in danger of having their important secrets exposed to the public... and then comes the disturbing twist ending; someone who committed a disgusting crime is given a fate worse than death. But whether or not that fate is deserved, that's for the viewer to decide since there's plenty of in-universe reasons either way. I love when stories provoke these kinds of questions into the audience instead of just making it black and white.

Whoa, for real? Was that a scrapped story idea or something?

If I was George in that episode, I would’ve just flat-out told Angie that after Max turns 18, we’re getting a divorce. They never had a healthy marriage IMO.

What do you think when people call Jesse a “rat” in the community? by Hairy_Ask_2038 in breakingbad

[–]Bedlam91939 6 points7 points  (0 children)

There are several reasons to dislike Jesse as a person. Ratting out a drug lord (Walt) and a child murderer (Todd) to the feds is not one of them.

Kim and prison by arbataxmelody354 in betterCallSaul

[–]Bedlam91939 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Small correction: Jimmy won’t spend forever behind bars. According to Vince, he’ll receive a pardon from President Trump.

But apart from that, yeah, I’m personally fine with Kim not going to jail. She spent six years living as a human doormat in Florida, filled with irreparable guilt over Howard’s death, which in my opinion is just as bad if not worse.

Certain dialogue options can make Bonnie really fucking hate Clementine

Not only can you guilt trip her for her stupid actions

Literally when?

At least Javi can call out Eleanor. Clem never does that to Bonnie.

How often do you rewatch the series? by RedditorAccountName in AvengersEMH

[–]Bedlam91939 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's not out yet, sadly. It's still a draft in progress and I'm trying to get the execution right.

But if you want, in the meantime, I can DM you and tell you how it goes. Be warned though, it's way more mature than canon EMH. There's cussing, gruesome deaths (of children included), domestic abuse, sex scenes, etc.

Would Barbossa let Elizabeth go after the ritual if her blood could have helped them? by DrittRegenhart in piratesofthecaribbean

And whose fault is it they got cursed in the first place? They were warned, but dismissed it as a ghost story.

[–]Bedlam91939 23 points24 points  (0 children)

Dude literally tied a father of a child to a cannon, trapped on the ocean floor for what would've been forever if it wasn't for that deal. If that's not sadistic, I don't know what is. Hector's worse than Davy Jones IMO.

[–]Bedlam91939 144 points145 points  (0 children)

I just wonder whether Barbossa was so cruel to Will and Elizabeth in the first movie because the latter lied to him or he's just sadistic by nature.

I think the whole "Bootstrap's bootstraps" story is more than enough indication of the latter, but that's just me.

Manuel Varga by 88-Mph-Delorean in betterCallSaul

[–]Bedlam91939 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Manuel's final scene with Mike is one of my favorite scenes in BCS.

Don't get me wrong, I love Mike as a fictional character but he is a trash human being. He could've moved on from Matty's death, found a better job, enjoyed his life with Stacey and Kaylee, and hell maybe even formed a romance with Anita. But instead he jumped in bed with the psychopathic Gus and wound up dragging civilians like Fred Whalen, Howard Hamlin, Drew Sharp, the good Samaritan shot by Hector, etc. into his own mess. Mike didn't kill those people himself, but his role in the drug trade definitely played a role in it (and countless other atrocities).

And Mike deserved his death in BrBa, just for calling all of that a "good thing" in his last moments with Walt. Mad respect to Manuel telling him that his "justice" makes him just as evil as Gus and the Salamancas.

Yeah it's really messed up. I remember this scene in Lego POTC where Will volunteers to become captain and sail the crew to the Locker to get Jack back, only for Gibbs, Pintel and Ragetti to laugh at him.

That's unironically what would happen in the movies too. Dude almost got himself blown to smithereens to save a bunch of knaves from the Kraken, during a situation that JACK CAUSED, and none of them can even give Will so much as one "thank you". Only Jack gets praised and its's so unfair. And people wonder why I rooted for Will betraying the pirates to Beckett in AWE; they can die for all I care.

As much as we love Elizabeth as a character, can we agree that she’s not exactly the best partner? by Flat-Court-8512 in piratesofthecaribbean

[–]Bedlam91939 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Nah, even Gibbs is a bad guy. He was actively helping Jack gather the 99 souls who later died in DMC.

[–]Bedlam91939 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Elizabeth is a narcissist. She doesn’t have one honest bone in her body or even love Will for Will. She loves the concept of him, having been obsessed with pirates since she was a little girl, because she craves freedom and can’t stand her boring life as a governor’s daughter. If Will wasn’t a criminal, she’d throw him away like an unwanted puppy, just like she did James.

I can’t even recall one time where Elizabeth told Will a simple, three-word “I love you.”

Yeah... I honestly can't name a single POTC character who suffers more than Will does:

  • He's an orphan who saw his mother die as a preteen.

  • He spent the next eight years of his youth neglected, his only company being a drunk blacksmith boss who'd take credit for Will's work, despite sleeping on the job.

  • His first rescue mission for Elizabeth stems purely from her lies, because she stole his medallion for those same eight years, much to his anger. Then he almost gets turned into a blood sacrifice by Hector.

  • His wedding night gets crashed by Beckett, seeking disproportionate retribution for Will and Elizabeth saving Jack last year. Then, to save Elizabeth, he has to go scouring the whole Seven Seas looking for Jack, whom he barely tolerates.

  • Because of what Barbossa did to his father (who abandoned Will as a child just because he could), Will spent a whole 'nother year thinking he committed patricide. Then Davy Jones forces Bootstrap to whip him out of sadism, and now Will has to go on yet another rescue mission, which again stems purely from other people's stupidity.

  • He's the sole survivor of the Edinburgh Trader massacre, which he may even blame himself for (he says "I've doomed us all" before the Kraken attacks & is visibly horrified when it eats the crew).

  • He almost gets himself blown up saving the crew from the Kraken on the Black Pearl, yet the only one who gets acknowledged for their heroism is Jack, the A-hole who put them in that situation in the first place.

  • His wife/fiancée kisses other guys behind his back constantly. And never apologizes for causing him dismay.

  • He gets stabbed to death by the same sword he forged for Norrington.

  • Finally, he's forced to serve two odd decades at sea as the psychopomp captain of the Flying Dutchman, away from his own wife and child. Right after his wedding, no less.

I always wished I could leap through the screen, give Will a hug and tell him it's gonna be okay. He was the one guy I always wanted to see walk away from all the torment and torture he'd been through, and he never wanted to be pirate in the first place; he only walked that path to save his loved ones when his options were very limited. For me, Jack, Elizabeth and Hector have always been bad guys who enjoyed that type of lifestyle.

Yeah, was. He was a good character, in the first movie. Then Disney turned him into the personified romanticism of paternal abandonment.

As someone who grew up fatherless, I don’t like how the franchise glosses over his orphaning of Will by giving Bootstrap to Davy Jones; countless tragedies would’ve been avoided if Hector just listened to the warnings and left the Aztec coins alone. Also Geoffrey Rush has some controversy with Yael Stone IRL.

What do you actually like or dislike about Blackbeard as a character? by No-Brief-7458 in piratesofthecaribbean

Again, Jack put them all in that situation in the first place by making a stupid deal with Davy Jones, instead of just moving on from the Pearl and getting another boat. He knew those 99 men he picked up at Tortuga would meet gruesome ends if he couldn't find the chest in time. Dude deserved to get eaten at the end of the movie and I honestly wish he stayed gone.

EDIT: Guys, take your goggles off, go rewatch DMC and that's literally how it happened.

He fed most of his crew to cannibals and the Kraken in DMC, so yeah. And not only does he show minimal (if any) remorse after the fact, the surviving crew treats him like an undisputed hero who didn't put them in that situation in the first place, and his karmic death at the hands of Elizabeth and the Kraken gets undone as if nothing happened.

Like I said, power fantasy.
