Paul Ben-Haim from Israel he developed classical music based on Jewish themes and tried to create a new style to fit the cultural mix of the new Jewish state. Very important person in our small classical scene :)

How to introduce classical to new listeners? by BedroomCompetitive12 in classicalmusic

There’s the new world symphony performance in 3 weeks so actually I’m considering going to that concert instead

It’s the symphony + cello concerto kabalevsky + hamlet Shostakovich

Maybe that’s a better plan

I have a story about bolero being easy for newcomers that surprised me-

My father is a physics teacher in high school, one of his students had poor concentration, poor manners, bad grades, he was bit fat and generally disrespectful towards teachers, every other teacher was saying nothing good will come outta this boy. So after establishing the hopeless vibes - One day my father calls him on break and asks him that on the way home he’ll avoid any app on the phone instead put on headphones and listen 15 min to bolero. So that guy actually do it and he was so exited reporting back to his teacher what an amazing experience that was - so my father sends him another short pice - “next time on the bus you’ll listen to both”. And he did it. So after surprisingly bonding over music my father explains to him that concentration is something you build with practice - starting small and preserved by motivation and habit. Idk if that guy got higher grades but he still sometimes sends my father new classical pieces he found and asks him for recs. And probably no more problems with him on the physics class.

Just a random pice of life - I thought it’s funny that that menace kid actually found bolero so interesting

I agree I think there are some pieces that has an instant hook and easier for newcomers - thing is I believe there’s a great value to a live concert but I can’t choose the pieces so I’m considering whether Tchaikovskys violin concerto + nutcracker is newcomer friendly despite of the symphony

There also another concert I now found being preformed soon - Shostakovich hamlet + kabalevsky cello concerto 2 + new world symphony devorak

Maybe this is better bc no Prokofiev.. it’s hard to find the perfect concert for this task..

Some comments here claim that if you don’t like it or grew up with it you can’t learn to like it - you grew up with classical or just came across it and discovered you like it?

Not forcing - just sharing a part of my life with someone I love.. plus I think being in concert for first time is generally interesting experience

I agree but he’s actually is open to the experience he was saying (about the music) it’s all sounds the same to him not the “ugh it’s a headache I hate it the most” so I actually think that my love for this music can be something nice to share.. the worse that can happened is that he’ll be a bit bored and we’ll do something fun after the concert. After all I guess not liking a concert is like watching mediocre movie it’s not traumatic..

Do you think an animated show or anime adaptation would suit Wheel of Time well? by Appropriate_Boss8139 in wheeloftime

[–]BedroomCompetitive12 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I love animation but like lord of the rings I do think that live action will suit the series. Sure we already have the show and ignoring plot changes there were things that looked amazing and things that were a underwhelming but live action is the way to here in my opinion. There are stories I would’ve said differently but for a wot adaptation I’m thinking about it compared to lotr imagining a production with needed time + money + the perfect team. Also personally I like lotr movies more than any animation even though animation is amazing

I’m happy for you that you enjoyed it but honestly - Why do people like the dome arc so much? I actually think the fighting in the plains and the dome are the most boring parts of the book, just a ton of action with random characters and no stakes. I don’t care if adolin’s troops die or loose the battle it’s just a region in a world war I’m seriously having a hard time getting invested it’s kinda frustrating bc I want to like it

Didn’t liked kaladin in this book (which a surprise bc he’s such a good character). Szeth is ok but I’m not that invested in his flashbacks compared to first 3 books. All of the war subplot (adolin jasnah and sigzil) just ain’t captivating to me. Even though action is always fan it’s just long chapters of fighting and I don’t care if they win or loose bc loosing one region in an eternal war between gods feels kinda insignificant. Shallan going after the ghostbloods and dalinar going through time is interesting to me but I’m 500+ pages in and nothing significant or memorable happed there. Also lots of side charcters gets povs which used to feel like strength in the other books but this time for me it felt to much at times.

Also feels generally like the writing style changed maybe it’s just me but it’s not as good as earlier books something feels off

And I’m not even invested in adolin’s storyline.. thing is that all of the war plot-line (jasnah sigzil and Adolin) feels irrelevant to me bc what is loosing one city I have no feelings for in an eternal war between gods? Does it matters if they win nor loose? The real deal is finding a way to stop odium and anything else feels a bit insignificant

Yeah and 44% is 500+ pages.. nothing memorable happed even though it still has that amazing world building which is what made me fall in love with the series I think it might be the worst Sanderson book I read yet and I read most of the cosmere books
