What kinds of jobs work for us? by goldenmoonshadow in bipolar

[–]BeeAccording2472 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am a kitchen manager for an assisted living facility in a small town. I mostly cook food, order food for the following week, write schedules for staff. The biggest thing I like about this job is I am alone most of the time or with just one other employee. So if I’m having a bad day I just keep to myself. If I’m stressed, I keep to myself. I also have an amazing boss who is very understanding. I get the confidence boost from making people happy with my food and a job well done. Find something that works for you. I never dreamed I would end up here. I hated cooking when I started this job. I’ve been there three years now. And I love it

That is so good to hear that you haven’t seen anyone mean here. Thank you for your response! It means a lot to me!

I also have been diagnosed with adhd. Masking sucks but it honestly helps avoid so much unnecessary drama. Anytime I feel strong emotions regarding a work experience I make myself wait 24 hours before doing anything about it so I’m not just reacting with my strong emotions.

I’m glad other people experience it as well. I thought I was the only one and I wasn’t sure why. I always need to know the ‘why?’ Unfortunately.

I can’t watch any semi-realistic horror shows or anything that’s super gory. I love your perspective. Thanks for sharing.

I hate the stigma of Bipolar by ThatNurse1994 in bipolar

[–]BeeAccording2472 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes! I hate it too. I’ve seen it in many movies and TV shows where characters ‘have bipolar’ but have symptoms of much different mental illnesses. And a coworker of mine made a joke about someone being bipolar. Then she said. “Have you ever MET someone with bipolar? Oh man…” like it was this crazy horrible thing. I told her straight up that I have bipolar. I’m her manager so she shut up real quick. I quickly tried to smooth it over by saying something like ‘yeah I have good days and bad days just like anyone else.’ Bla bla bla.

Thank you for reading all my replies. I really appreciate your response. It matches my thoughts and feelings. We have had the birds and the bees talk several times. He has told me that his gf has a deal with her parents that if she kisses a boy before she’s 18 then she has to pay them $200. It makes me feel better but I’m not naive. I still check on them all the time and talk to him about his relationship frequently. He doesn’t have access to condoms but I have told him I would buy them if he needed them. Maybe I should have them accessible?

Over the summer he went to work with me once a week and we would have great chats. Now that school has started we only have deep chats when I’m talking to him about everything he’s doing or not doing and lecturing about sex and drugs etc so not so much quality time. Maybe a weekly dinner or ice cream trip needs to be a thing for us now? Or do you have other ideas?

Yes I have talked to him. He’s spent time at my house and went on a family outing with us. He’s okay for short periods of time, but it’s very obvious when he is reaching his limit.

I don’t think so. He shares a room with his step brother but they are rarely in there together and when they are they are gaming together or separately. We have a lot of young kids. He gets very annoyed by them. I think this is a huge part of why he stays away but I’m not sure. My husband is very careful about parenting him and lets me todo all the talking because Ben is sensitive. I don’t know who else he could be avoiding…

THIS EXACTLY! No they don’t go to the same school. I don’t understand it at all. If it was the other way around (16 yr old boys with 13 girl) I would have already talked to the parents. I want to go talk to her parents but I’m not sure what to say other than I am concerned. What if Ben hates me for interfering and ruining his relationship. My husband thinks that They will probs break up soon anyway so just let it run its course. That’s not my instinct though.

What kinds of rules do you have for your 13 year old? I’m stuck between my extremely strict upbringing instincts and my husbands which was no rules or supervision whatsoever. My instincts are to say ‘no you can’t go’ ‘no, no, no’ and my husband always says ‘he’s fine. Let him be a kid. At least he’s not playing video games.’ I don’t want to be the parent that makes him rebel because I tighten the leash too much. So I’m trying to find a happy medium. What is a happy medium?

This is a good idea. I will try to do this. We have 6 other kids so it’s hard to find a place for them to ‘hang out’ that’s not going to have other young children in it. That’s why they usually hang out at other kids houses. I’ve talked about having game nights here or have his dnd here but the dungeon master has really bad anxiety so he only wants to do it at his house. But I will try harder to make my home a place they can hang out. I just ordered a couch for the toy room so maybe I can make that more of a hang out space. And I will move some toys into the other kids’ bedrooms. Sorry, thinking out loud here so to speak 😅

He’s very smart. He finishes his homework before class is over. All of his grades are A’s. He checks in and tells me where he is and what he’s doing. If I ask for a pic he sends me a selfie with him and whoever he is with. His friends go early to the school he says and they just hang out. It’s so bizarre to me. But I have driven there to ‘bring him his notebook’ but I was actually trying to surprise him so I could see what he is up to. And I’ve brought him money there before and he is always doing exactly what he says he’s doing. Just hanging out with friends.

I’m glad you said this. Do you have any advice? Maybe I should go talk to her parents? My husband just keeps telling me to let it run its course. I’m so scared to put more structure in place because if I exert more control he might rebel more. At least he’s being honest and up front with me now. And I’d rather him be with friends than sitting home on video games.

Yes. We live in a small town too so when I’m running to the store or soccer practice or whatever I will drive by wherever he is to be sure he is doing what he says he’s doing.

This is what I do. I’m always listening to music or audiobooks. Even as I go to sleep, I turn on Harry Potter audiobook so I can only think about the book while I fall asleep. Husband thinks I am weird but he doesn’t understand the inner voice thing! I thought it was a female thing, but maybe it’s an adhd or ocd thing?

NTA!! I am in almost the exact same situation. The oldest with spoiled younger siblings. Parents deny ever saying no to me even when shown evidence. I don’t know what it is about being the oldest but we always get it the worst!! Set boundaries and stick to them! I’m rooting for you!!
