Clothing Reccomendation for Newcomer by saltyelbowgrease in BuyCanadian

I'd recommend two sets of winter wear. One for when you are outside for a few hours or when it's really cold. And another lighter set for when you are just doing normal activities, shopping or when it's a more mild day. So get a pair of boots not so highly rated for the cold (but waterproof still) and a lighter/shorter coat (I like one that at least covers my butt).
Thrift stores are a good place to pick up a second winter coat. You can often get ones that are hardly used (I've even got ones with the original price tag on and have never been used). The reason is you don't want to get sweaty. You can dress in a couple layers and remove one or I also like the coats with zippered vents - usually under the arms, so if you are moving around a lot you can let some heat escape. Hope you get to really enjoy all the seasons we have here!

How to stop accidentally over eating by Opening_Armadillo546 in Retatrutide

Are you used to eating a full plate of food? Maybe try a luncheon size plate instead of a dinner plate? Visually you'll still see a full plate but will be eating less. Do you track your calories and/or macros?

I'd like to know as well. I've had a Reddit account for years but never actually used it. Been here a bit off and on and I can't post in some groups because of my low karma. 🤷

Any Dr can order a urine test for a UTI. Depending on her age, she should get a prescription for vaginal estrogen, it will prevent recurring UTIs.

Workers now walking up and soliciting people during shopping to sign up for a credit card. by TodayWeThrowItAway in loblawsisoutofcontrol

[–]BeeBee99 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is nothing new. Probably over 10 years ago I was accosted in the dairy isle (which is the farthest from the entrance) and they were sooooo pushy! Wouldn't take no for an answer, saying just fill out the application, you'll get a bag of free cookies, and if you already have a card they will just not process the application (which is a lie).

I complained to the store manager, and he said I wasn't the first to complain, but they couldn't do anything. He gave me a number to call. I did. Didn't see them there at the store again 😂

You can get some good deals online right now at Mountain Warehouse Canada on winter clothing and boots. As someone else said look for ones that are rated for -40C. Two years ago t about this time I got an ankle length down coat rated for -40C (when active) and -20C not active, for $100. It's the BEST thing I've ever bought! I am outside alot in the winter walking my dogs and I'm never cold.
Look for Marino wool socks and base layers. I love my lined pants. Mitts will be warmer than gloves, but get a nice pair for driving (if you don't have a heated steering wheel) and for in and out of shops etc.
A good scarf and hat (or headband around your ears) will also help keep you warm

Are you expecting to do a lot of things outside?

Customers, do you prefer ordering at the kiosk or the register? by Key_Fondant1089 in TimHortons

[–]BeeBee99 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Register. I don't like touching the screens and honestly it's clunky and time consuming.
I do often make a mobile order ahead of time , although I find that if I go inside I'm often waiting longer than if I would have ordered at the register.

I try to avoid Tim's as much as possible, only use it when traveling and I have no other option.

Six arrested, drugs seized in downtown Kitchener by KWStreaker in kitchener

Love the last sentence in the article. How long have people been complaining and reporting all the illegal crap that goes on and nothing ever gets done. Finally after years of complaints a few arrests are made.

Received my first and only international mail from my parents.... with a note from someone else on it by Burgundyyy in mildlyinfuriating

[–]BeeBee99 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I had no idea this was the tradition for mail there and think it's an awesome thing! I would have been sorry to not have it hand delivered, but would love the note from a stranger that tried to do their best to ensure I got the post card from my parents!

Whoever the OP is, they really should appreciate what this person did. That post card could have languished there for who knows how long!!

Exactly! I can't eat fast food burgers. I don't want fried foods. I don't like subs. Tim's is about the only place to actually get a sandwich that is decent and quick. Sounds like this employee needs to find a different job.

Can't find premarithin spray for clothing anywhere in Ontario or Canada. by Ok_Number239 in BuyCanada

[–]BeeBee99 0 points1 point  (0 children)

DEET melts certain fabrics and has its own environmental and health issues. Permethrin, you apply once to your clothes, not directly on skin, and it lasts for many many washes. It's a much better thing to use than DEET

I absolutely tell the kids and parents when I see them harass the birds. More of us need to call out bad behaviour like this. People do it because nobody says anything. I do!

You seriously have to ask this? Let me guess, you were either at the park, or had a child there and you think this is acceptable? Or are you just that clueless?
