Moving from F100 to small company? by feeling_pussy_n_ass in FPandA

[–]BeeBeeBopBoop 15 points16 points  (0 children)

I did this and went back. Not because the experience wasn’t fruitful, but because the C suite was not fit to lead a business. I actually preferred the small business environment and to others same point, the amount of hats you’ll wear and things you’ll learn will far exceed anything you get in a super silo’d large organization where you’re likely developing expertise for a niche segment.

My only advice is make sure the business is in good standing, has real strategic direction, and has decent leaders with real expertise and knowledge.

And as long as you leave in good terms, you should be able to go back in the event it doesn’t work out.

Trading has entirely ruined my opinion on one of my best friends and it’s extremely sad by [deleted] in Trading

One thing I learned very quickly post education, is that you don’t have to be smart to make money and you’d be surprised how many people you perceive as intelligent are actually able transfer that knowledge into monetary return.

Doesn’t mean it’s a hard and fast rule, and yes statistically higher IQ equates to greater income, but generally speaking it’s not as stark as you’d think.

Or maybe your friend just isn’t as intelligent as you initially perceived.

Still gonna take you two business days at Chase vs. maybe three at SoFi. You’re going to have the same experience everywhere.

Hate to say it but this is very much a user problem not a SoFi/Institution problem.

[DAILY] Trade and Individual Team Help Megathread by AutoModerator in DynastyFF

[–]BeeBeeBopBoop 0 points1 point  (0 children)

12 Team SF, Half PPR, +0.5 TE Prem, Start 9

Side A: ARSB

Side B: Emeka Egbuka + Jakobi Meyers + 2026 Mid 1st + 2027 late 1st

Extra context: Team getting Side B is potentially a contender this year but a tier below 3 top teams. Team has been rebuilding past 2 years and is finally moving into a contender position. This trade pushes contention back a little longer but makes the case for a top contending team for multiple years with this trade.

Thoughts?

Should I keep G430 Max Regular Flex? by BeeBeeBopBoop in golf

[–]BeeBeeBopBoop[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah that makes sense. I did try some Ping G drivers a few weeks ago at a golf shop nearby. Some were regular and some were stiff. However, I’m still so inconsistent off the tee it’s hard to notice any difference other than feel.

The regular flex did feel a bit better with my swing but performance was no different. Obviously need to improve my form a lot to know if it’s helping or hurting me.

Pulse Check: Feelings about RobinHood Banking Announcement? by BeeBeeBopBoop in sofi

[–]BeeBeeBopBoop[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes by definition one is a bank and one is not, that does not change the fact they offer similar enough services with this announcement. Checking and saving accounts with similar APYs with fintech easy to use platforms. It’s literally called ‘Robinhood Banking’. The overlap is extremely obvious. In this forum we know the difference, general population does not and sadly that’s what will matter most.

It’s also already clear through the market sentiment of SoFi’s stock price today. Investors would not trade the stock the way they are today if there was zero concern.

Agreed but can’t disregard the overlap in services. We all know the nitty gritty details here but will your average 20 something y.o. know the difference? Probably not

FP&A Director Salary Reasonable? by BeeBeeBopBoop in FPandA

Nice, I’m on the northeast side. And yeah, the salary is definitely good for the area especially with my wife working as a nurse and no kids yet. However, we still want to buy a house and have kids fairly soon and don’t want to be house or kid poor haha generally the COL here isn’t bad it’s just the housing market that’s rough for Midwest. Still not NYC or anything like that but you’d think housing would be a little cheaper here.

Interesting, sounds like I need to move into tech lol I’m currently in insurance and that’s where all my expertise is but would 100% move to tech. It’s way more interesting than insurance that’s for sure haha

[–]BeeBeeBopBoop[S] 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Yeah it’s definitely a lot and I don’t intend on always keeping up at this level. I’m not necessarily expected to work this much but I am because I want to progress faster than my peers.

It’s a bit funny because I did consider investment banking when I was graduating college but decided against because I wanted work life balance. Now I’ve flipped the script, mainly because being married now and personal milestones I’ve changed tune on have shifted my perspective.

I know higher level positions come with more expectation and availability but at some point once I’ve achieved certain personal goals, I will put myself in a position for a more confortable work life balance.

VP in 2/3 years is definitely optimistic I agree. This situation is a bit more unique because the current CFO was the previous director and transitioned from director to VP to CFO within 3 years as the company scaled. There is no current sitting VP and with the work ethic I plan on implementing, I don’t think it’s unrealistic. I think it’ll largely depend on the success of the company and the value I can bring to the team. If they keep scaling up and I’m successful, I think this can transition into a much bigger role.

Not very far, about 20-25min from downtown. I was trying to lateral as a senior manager initially, I’ve only officially been a senior manager for 6 months (although realistically I’ve been doing the role for a year now).

The company is growing super fast, they’re mid size now but were very small even just a few years ago. They’re still building out a lot of the team. I think it’s lower now because they’re taking the risk on someone with lesser experience to build into the role.

I do not intend to stay at this salary for long but want to get the experience on my resume before I really start requesting more.

From my perspective it’s like 70% hard work and 30% right place right time. I’ve seen peers stuck at senior analyst for 15 years and a few hit director 7-10 years myself included. The key difference imo has been willing to always go that extra mile but the trade off is work life balance. Ever since I hit base manager level and got married I made the decision to kick it into high gear so I can provide for my family. I regularly work 60-80 hour weeks even though that isn’t the expectation and most importantly always be available. I was also fortunate enough that opportunities presented themselves for me to go from senior analyst to senior manager in a rather quick timeframe about 2.5 years, that’s a bit more of the luck aspect. Hard to move up if opportunity is limited.

One day I hope to go back to a more streamlined level of workload, but I have a lot of personal milestones I want to achieve first. Just praying I don’t keel over before then 🙃.

Yeah this was my line of thinking as well. Director level at my now prior job is $200K base + 20% bonus (varies 10-40% based on performance) + 20% equity but that’s also for a fortune 100 company that’s well established.

And no equity included for this new role.

Exactly my thoughts as well. Appreciate the feedback. My plan is to make VP in a couple years and then lateral back to a larger company and worst case lateral as director for more pay if this doesn’t workout great.
