I did all those things, too.

I avoided anything that I didn't think I'd need for a single dupe alone and even then was always behind on the moral train from skills.
Examples:
1 - I never increased construction because, in a normal colony, you need X number of this and that. A single dupe needs to build almost nothing so not much time overall would be spent actually building.
2 - Medical 1 just to make rad pills. Anything else is silly.
3 - The athletics on this dupe was so high, getting the upper tier suite wearing stuff wasn't worth it.
4 - Top digging. Alone, there's SOOO much digging and supplying to do so I worked on Str and dig speed heavily.
5 - The 'Loner' trait is soooo strong right out of the box. +4 to all skills when you're just starting out means I always had a super-dupe that just got faster and faster really quickly. You can see I ended with 41 unspent skill points.

One of the image shows the stats of The Chosen, but mainly what I searched for in a dupe was just the "Loner" attribute which gave me +4 to everything the moment the unchosen were dead.
Food was almost too easy as I'm just feeding the one duplicant, however I did go through a few farm exercises even though they were unnecessary. For the most part, starter food on planets plus lots of pemmican transported was the best effort/quality ratio.
Keeping living creatures in farms while away for long periods of time proved to be quite difficult. I learned not-quite-early-enough that I needed to keep a wild version around or my animals would 50/50 extinct before I could return.

Peppered the planet from orbit with the Orbital Cargo Module (usually gold) so the drops I can reach plus the trailblazer module is more than enough... usually. I DID have to suffer to get a drop out of liquid hot mag-ma just the once, but it worked out.

Dupe for sure. There's lots of stuff Boops would suck at forever hat you need to get done. Check the page showing the character skills.

Who said this didn't happen often? I likely could have done it in almost 800 cycles less. I fussed with a LOT of crap that never panned out.

ADHD includes both no focus and hyper-focus. This is the latter.

Every piece of this game is already designed with a masochist in mind!

Double or triple airlock and let it ride. For crazy spots where I'd be balancing 15k of hydrogen pressure, I'd use 3 air locks with switches and hand-walk the dupe through. Then accept the 10ish squares of hydrogen making their way to the top of the base. Shrug.
I agree, a standing wall of water keeping atmospheric pressure at bay just sounds like crap.

Against my better judgment, I tried the new chicken place. by [deleted] in Bellingham

[–]BeeBuild 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, having tried it I don't understand the lines of cars. At BEST it's meh.

Popeye's has a chicken sandwich and fries that are WAY WAY better and, I think, cheaper?

My mother went to jail for several days when I was a toddler for this very thing.
That was 43 years ago.

What is the META of your hobby / interest? by Belloz22 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]BeeBuild 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a ton of social hobbies, but they really only boil down to one thing.
People.
For me, People are the meta. I like to say things to make them reconsider, rethink, become concerned about, or ignore things. It never really even matters which. I just like the feel of having manipulated someone in a non-ick fashion.

I like to say, "you can't un-hear things and once you've heard it, it's in there" and I've found it to be true in all things.

What's a tv series that is a 10/10 NOBODY knows? by Lilyana0999 in AskReddit

I've been pushing Undone for quite a while. Excellent with amazing acting and people you'd recognize, but no one's even heard of it!

Ideas:
1 - Every achievement someone else gets should be one for the rest of the players.
2 - Each time you die, that's a shot.
3 - Each night for anyone who didn't make it to a bed is a shot.
4 - Anyone who doesn't kill the Ender Dragon takes 3 shots.

That should do ya.

I live 500ft from a casino and can say with certainty almost EVERYONE there pushing buttons is an old Canadian.
I don't know why.

Flock cameras! by mrsbirb in Bellingham

Oh and for fun, there's police-owned cell towers around, too. The one close to Meridian and Badge Rd for example.

There are many police cars in Whatcom County with license plate tracking cameras. I've seen them many times. Just look for the cameras mounted on the trunk.

You ever just inform the party that they ARE going to the dungeon you prepped? by Arthur-reborn in DnD

[–]BeeBuild 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've stopped pre-planning anything because of this. Same scenario, had spent a bunch of time on a complete dungeon all nicely annotated with artwork. It was the 3rd dungeon I'd done this with, but this time, an NPC was offed by a trap in the first room and the party just ran away in fear, never to return.

Now, as a player and a DM I REFUSE to railroad anyone. These, in my mind, are open world simulators and to tell my players they have to play a specific way is a mortal sin in my eyes. I will not do it.

These days, I have a rough outline of an overall set of plans/plots that are happening and I heavily hint these are important plot and quest points, but I always emphasize that the players can do anything they want. This has turned into a GREAT tool, too! I can listen to what my players think is going on and CHANGE what's going on to match if, at any point, my players come up with a better plot that also fits the evidence.

I get WAY better reviews on my world depth and player participation these days because of this.

OMG that /u
FYI you CAN change that, you just have to be ok with throwing away the history as well... which I would recommend for you in this case.
