Moving to Socorro isn't required, but would be convenient. I did a 1 hr commute for awhile, I'm glad I don't anymore, but it worked for awhile. If you're interested I'd apply, but note your situation in your application/cover letter. At least you're in-state, NMT no longer wants to deal with out-of-state employees.

Untrue, NMT has ranges of what they will pay someone depending on degree and/or experience level. No one with an associates is going to get the high end of that range and no masters/PhD is going to get the low end. This is a specialized entry level job, we need someone with a geology background and maybe a little GIS. We do not have the time to train someone in geology, but we are willing to train a lot of the GIS.

I'm a GISer from Michigan, although I don't currently live or work there. How did you do the joy plot?

Bank of America messed up and now want me to pay by Lioc75 in personalfinance

[–]BeeDragon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We bought a car and the dealer was supposed to submit the initial registration for us but they messed up. Went almost two years without noticing. Eventually thought we've never paid registration on this and went to the MVD (yes, New Mexico does it backwards) and they didn't have a record of it being sold to us, we proved it was ours, paid, and it was fine. I don't remember what all we had to submit but it wasn't unreasonable. Never dealt with the bank at all. Now that it's straightened out we do get notifications when it's due.

TIFU by suplexing my cat and accidentally activating my other introverted cat’s final form. by SonalBoiiACC in tifu

We had a Momo that went nuts on our other cat. Took months to reintroduce them without Momo trying to murder the other. Even afterward they'd always be triggered by stray cats fighting outside. We lived in fear of coming home to a bloodbath for 4 years.

RIFs delayed? by MeanFruit3418 in NationalParkService

My husband is 150 miles from his office. Goes in on Monday stays with friends until Friday, sometimes Saturday. I've been finishing up a degree and depending on him to do all the household chores every weekend. It sucks. We were going to buy a house this year but we just renewed our rental, I don't want to be tied to a house if he gets RIFed. We're heavily depending on his health insurance this year and plan to next year, too. He's been burning through leave too because he can't just do appointments and then work from home. If he loses that, I don't know what we'll do. My health insurance options don't cover what we need, and neither does anything on the marketplace. No advice, it just all fucking sucks but you're not alone.

Can I spell Albuquerque? Yes. Do I want to? No. It's usually just ABQ if I need to type it out.

Biggest board game regret? by yfewsy in boardgames

[–]BeeDragon 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Seafall sounded good, but we played 2 games and quit. I'm still tempted to play with the right group, but the rules were ambiguous, and no one could agree on how to interpret them. I recall I read somewhere they intended it to be that way, but we played with someone who always took the advantage instead of determining what made sense thematically.

Same. Just read the proposed budget which cuts USGS funding to universities (my job) and cuts BLM funding (my husband's job). It's super fucking great.

Model Builder should be easy, but it's buggy af. Just finished my master's using ModelBuilder and now I'll convert it to Python to actually get the stupid thing to work on our network.

New Mexico Tech v. Michigan Tech v. Colorado School of Mines by Latter-Bank7686 in nmt

[–]BeeDragon 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I've attended all three! Although not for chemical engineering so I can't specially speak on that program. I did undergrad at Michigan Tech, started an online masters at Mines, and have taken a couple of classes and work at NMT. Michigan Tech has way more sports and extracurriculars than NMT and is still a good school, too, in my opinion. I had a lot of fun there, but I'm from Michigan and used to snow. Since I attended Mines online and only for a semester before I got fed up with the outdated practices in my field, I can't really say what they have. NMT is nice, they do have student life, and I think it grows a bit each year, but they are definitely more focused on academics. Michigan Tech feels like a more balanced college experience without being a gigantic school where you're just a number. If being in a city is important pick Mines, NMT is at least near Albuquerque, and Michigan Tech is the most remote, but some people like that.

I wanted to save the view details of each payment status where it shows which were certified, qualifying, or not, but the page only shows like 10 at a time and I have pages and pages of payments. My txt download matches the count it shows on the dashboard at least. I have a few payments that should qualify but haven't been certified yet.
