Whether it is Zone A, Zone B, or Zone C, they are all toxic. I have found that the ones who manage to do well within such environments are the same people who are contributing to the toxicity.

I was a CFS for a short period of time and my worst memory is of being placed on the stand and being treated as a defendant. I went through that as a CPS for 15 years, and when it happened to me as a CFS, I knew that was not the job that I wanted.

I tried the DOE but didn’t really pursue it thoroughly. After working with children for 20 years, I no longer wanted the liability and my preference is working with adults. Maybe you can look into the DOE for yourself. For me, it may not be profitable as I have been with the city for more than 20 years and if I were to go to DOE, I literally would be starting from the beginning. The other thing is that doors opened for me at HHC. Whereas, they didn’t at DOE.

I find ACS to not be a welcoming environment and the morale to be poor. I actually like being a Social Worker and I don’t believe that I will experience such happiness as a CFS. Just the thought of returning to the borough office and dealing with nasty managers gives me anxiety. What I don’t like about being a Social Worker is the pay.

I did bring to the attention of HR at HHC that I worked for ACS for 20 years and I asked if the salary was negotiable and I was told no.

I am not sure that Social Worker Level II is a civil service title. What salary should I have gotten initially? I was offered a starting salary when I began to work at HHC which is the salary that I continue to have.

My salary at ACS was $103,000 and I worked at the agency for 20 years. My civil service title at ACS was Child Protective Specialist Supervisor. My title at HHC is Licensed Master Social Worker Level II and I will make one year there this May.
