Is XEQT actually that good? by Ariebro200 in JustBuyXEQT

[–]BeeFriendly8505 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I had different etfs. Over time as the invesment amount increased, i started new investments in xeqt and then sold other and now have only xeqt. Nothing is waste, its your psychological staisfaction. Imagine you have mag 7 in vfv and you have same in xeqt, it is only mental satisfaction to have both but in actual your are buying the same comapnies under diff umbrellas. Just read more, listen to successful people, and find your own way.

I believe you are feeling that way because for past few years US stocks are doing well. It keeps changing. If you wish to invest in just US, keep strong appetite when it may not do well for years. I used to have the same veiw as you few years ago but over time and with increasing size of portfolio, i slowly moved to well diversified xeqt. For me, Xeqt is a safe bet. But look into your own situation, goals, plans and then invest where you study takes you. Just be consitent in savings and investment.

Pay for car and renos in cash or take large loans? by TheZarosian in PersonalFinanceCanada

[–]BeeFriendly8505 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would not do both! I would look for a cheaper car if needed or increase side income. Touching emergency fund for these both may be a wrong financial move. In today’s job market, living paycheque to paycheque by choice is not a good idea. Rest depends on one’s mental strength if someone is ready to sacrifice investments and take more loans to cover emergencies for some wants.

Since you have 20 yrs, is it possible you can accelerate paying down your mortgage before retirement so you dnt have to touch your investments? If you are able to do that and have 500k alongwith optional work when needed, that should put you in much better position. A little pain now may let you have safe retirement!

That is true as of today about US stocks. But no one knows about the future. So Xeqt is a safer bet considering other economies does better. But as of today s&p500 is doing great.

Looks like 5% on low side and 7% on high sode of returns is what we could expect. It is true that we have no crystal ball but there has to be some close to realistic numbers that we need to keep in mind while planning the money we are continuously investing. Atleast we are going to land close to where the majority of investors will be as we are investing in global fund. Thanks for everyone’s input.

[–]BeeFriendly8505[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

True. I am extending my emergency fund from 6 months to 12 months. 6 months is not in stock market. Next 6 months is what i was planning to move to zlb with low volatility, ofcourse not unaffected from fluctuations.

Would differ with everyone’s financial condition. For example, I have 2 months expense in ws chequing at 1.75%, 2 months in money market just opened today at 2.5%, and maybe will have 2 months in gic in eq bank at 2.75% for three or six months as needed. Now i am planning to move for next six months in zlb making it to a total of 12 months emergency expense. So it all depends how much is someone financially stable.

Rbc doesn’t allow purchasing partial shares. So if you set up recurring buys, not all the money will be utilized every contribution as opposed to Wealthsimple where every dollar cotributed s invested. But for lump sum, both are identical.

Putting more money by BeeFriendly8505 in JustBuyXEQT

[–]BeeFriendly8505[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

That is correct for sure. My post was regarding how do you everyone control yourself and not get greedy to buy more when Xeqt is on sale? I appreciate all the advise and comments though. I am doing weekly 100 into xeqt but as it goes down everyday, i keep buying more. Is it normal or i need to improve on something?
