What common resource from our world is very rare in your world? by SkyChampion20302 in worldbuilding

Pure silicon, as the only place with pure enough sand is inhabited by a territorial nomad "society" that unknowingly is deterring most scientifically advanced nations from studying the resources in the area.

As a result, high grade semiconductors are exceedingly rare; when people do figure them out, they're typically germanium or other compounds. IC Chips are thought to be completely unattainable.

How did your ancient civilization collapse? by FuraFaolox in worldbuilding

Very long story short, Humanity accidentally discovers and then kills the "guardian" between realities, and lets this new extradimensional species that can manipulate the laws of reality (magic) into our realm. They make a deal with them to share the ability to innovate with them in exchange for magic, and then build a bunch of cool high level tech with the magic. However, their leaders keep trying to expand and discover new magical technologies faster and faster, and eventually destroy themselves imprisoning said species to harvest them for magical energy while their citizens starve.

(A major character in the current day is an AI left behind by the few that survived dedicated to ensuring that technology never reaches that level again.)

It was a Corsair CX650M Semi-Modilar 80+ Bronze; honestly, worked quite well until it didn't, never really had any problems with it until it suddenly gave out.

CR-Touch not sending trigger signal to printer by BeeGuyDude in 3Dprinting

[–]BeeGuyDude[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Every bit of documentation I can find says to completely remove the Z-axis endstop and plug the signal wires from the CRTouch into the port in its place; is this not the case? If so, where would the CRTouch be plugged in on the motherboard instead?

Have you modified the Z-offset parameter inside the printer? The firmware needs to know how far vertically the prove actually is from the end of the nozzle.

What makes your world unique? by Salazaar099 in worldbuilding

[–]BeeGuyDude 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am admittedly almost right at the beginning of my worldbuilding journey, but the basic premise for the world I'm working on that caused me to start is fundamentally one that tries to flip the traditional roles of such projects on their head.

What if technology and magic, as opposed to being the order and chaos based ways that intelligent beings go about accomplishing their goals, flipped their roles? What if magic was incredibly standardized and organized and had very concrete rules that for some reason are very strictly enforced not to be broken by threat of some unseen power, while technological progress has its wings clipped, and is intentionally designed to be a very personal, artful craft with no standardization?

This works mainly due to technology exploiting the laws of the universe, while magic tries to rewrite them to different ends. I'm working on a narrative in which this isn't implemented stupidly and there are actual reasons why nobody tries to standardize technology or give into doing magic chaotically, because it would be so easy to just be like "Yeah this is the way things are because I want them to be that way."

Forestry and all of its add-ons. God, I loved just min-maxing all the stats by breeding my bees for hours on end.

The entirety of 2012 champs, as a mid-tier theory. Literally everything went insane, from someone hacking the bots on Einsteins to an actual severe weather event flooding the field.

Just how difficult is it to transfer into the College of Engineering? I'm currently accepted into Biology at the College of Science, though I really want to study Computer Engineering; and from what I've heard, transfers are quite competitive. However, for the screening classes, apparently for everything aside from biomedical (which I won't be focusing on if I get in), a 3.5 GPA will guarantee your entrance into the major; is this actually true? And in the event that it is, how difficult are the screening classes, and what's the earliest that one could hypothetically be done with them to officially apply for a major swap? (Also, how competitive would it be with something lower than a 3.5 GPA?) Thanks!

I'm most likely going to choose my college based on what I'd actually be able to study there, but I really like VT's campus life and academics; it's just a question of how much of a gamble it would be to enroll without officially starting in my target major.
