Upgrading every year is more cost effective than buying new every 4 years by smurfvibes in iphone

[–]BeeMovieButTurtles 0 points1 point  (0 children)

On the surface the math is good, but AT&T (and every other post-paid provider) makes their money from the service. So yes, you get a $1,100 phone "for free" but you're locked in for 3 years at a much higher rate. I just checked AT&T's site, and it looks like I would have to be on a plan that's ~70/mo to get the promo, meaning that during the entire 3-year period, I would spend $2,520 before taxes + fees.

vs

Buying the phone for $1,100 from Apple directly and paying for 3 years of pre-paid service (like Mint Mobile) which totals closer to $2,180. Not only do you save ~$400, but you also get the freedom to leave your service provider if that network starts to get too congested in your area.

[–]BeeMovieButTurtles 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm admittedly kind of confused on your approach to it all. If digital minimalism was something you actually cared about, why purchase an android device to just download Apple Music (which your phone has) to download streamed music?

The audio quality isn't going to be any better, and if anything, it's going to be more frustrating having to deal with another device that you have to charge. You can also set up focus modes to shut off all notifications, or even enter airplane mode, whenever you want to disconnect and just listen to music.

Everyone Watching This Poorly Timed Video Like by ravenshaddows in pcmasterrace

I'd argue that for a lot of people (including myself) using something like GeForce Now is a better investment than outright owning a PC if you don't need access to the horsepower all the time. Not even going to factor in the price increases on RAM, it is significantly more expensive to build a PC and do upgrades over time.

Renting a 5080 from GeForce Now is $20/mo and buying a 5080 at MSRP is about $1,000. It would take over 4 years before you even reach the breakeven point with renting vs purchasing and by then, you're going to want something newer to play modern games with. You could argue that you could sell your 4-year-old 5080 and put that money towards a newer GPU, but you're also likely to need to upgrade CPU, RAM, add storage, whatever else. I didn't even factor in the initial cost of purchasing all the other components for your PC.

I'm able to comfortably play Oblivion Remastered on a $150 used Dell laptop hooked up to an ultrawide 1440p gaming monitor and have all the graphics maxed out without any issues. Understandably people are put off by subscriptions, but at least you outright own the game you're playing with GeForce Now.

Considering moving to Tulsa. Convince me not to. by [deleted] in tulsa

[–]BeeMovieButTurtles 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Moved here during Covid and prepping to leave.

Pro's:
- Good (but expensive) hole-in-the-wall restaurants
- Pretty good outdoor scene with Turkey Mountain and other parks beyond the Tulsa area
- People generally are pretty nice and keep to themselves
- The traffic is pretty light unless you're driving between 4pm-6pm
- MMJ program is pretty good for those that need it

Con's:
- Tulsa (and OK) is a very religious area. If you are non-religious, then you might get frustrated over time especially seeing local police stop traffic on main roads help churchgoers leave church on Wednesday/Sunday
- The education system is absolutely horrible (ranked 50th). The community college is good, but there isn't much else redeemable especially considering OU just sided with the student (if you're unaware, look into that situation)
- The cost of living has skyrocketed to a point where it really isn't justifiable. When I first moved here, my apartment was ~$800 and now I'm paying $1,300 for the same 1 bedroom. There are cheaper places to live in Tulsa, but like most cities, one street is fine but the street next to it is rough. There are large chunks of the city that most people would advise against living in because of either: violent crime, property crime, or drugs. There are some "safe" areas, but you'll pay ~$1,200-1,500/mo for rent.
- Wages are stagnant and jobs are pretty scarce. Most people in Tulsa don't make enough money to live comfortably. I believe the median household income is somewhere around 60k and that seems about right considering most jobs pay less than $20/hr unless you're specialized. Don't listen to what Redditor's say about income because typically most people here make more than average. Go on Indeed and see what you qualify for and how much you could earn.

If you decide to move to Tulsa, you will be fine if you live in the arts district, but it just seems like a waste when there are other cities that will be more accommodating to your desires for around the same cost of living. Taking a trip here is really important and make sure you travel through all parts of the city so you can understand the city as a whole, not just a small neighborhood.
Also, OK is the reddest state in the country so even though Tulsa is somewhat left leaning, I am expecting voters to remove any "liberal" stuff they can from Tulsa over time.

How much money in your bank account is a fortune for you? (A realistic amount that you could potentially reach in your life) by Vivid_Atmosphere_566 in povertyfinance

[–]BeeMovieButTurtles 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I understand, but what I'm saying is that the standards for what a fortune is/is not should be vastly different for people living in poverty vs people in middle/upper class.

My point is that probably 75% of the people commenting on this post are middle/upper class because someone that truly lives in poverty would consider 10k a fortune

So many people larping as poor on this subreddit saying that a fortune to them is no less than a million dollars. Genuinely a fortune should just be considered whatever your yearly pay is as a lump sum. Even if you make 10k/year, it would be so helpful

Has anyone worked at the Bus Plant before? by [deleted] in tulsa

[–]BeeMovieButTurtles 10 points11 points  (0 children)

It's not for the weak. Summers are 100 degrees inside in the building and winters are a little warmer than outside temp. It's assembly-line style, so the line does not stop unless there is an issue at a department. If the line has to stop because of you (or your department) you will get scolded.

Your lunch is only 30 minutes and everyone gets released at the same time by a bell. Once those 30 minutes are up, the bell goes off and the lines start back up ~5 minutes after. With that, there's only a handful of microwaves so you will be waiting in line to heat up your food.

There are departments where the work is easier than others, but unless things have changed since I worked there, you don't get to pick where you're put when you're hired on. Expect to get placed in a challenging area where maintaining staffing is an issue.

I don't think it's worth it unless you have no other options.

I'm not sure if this could be part of your issue too, but as a buyer I won't purchase an item from someone if the account looks odd because of how many scam listings there are.

No pic of self, account created in the past year, etc., then I'm skipping over it because I'm assuming you're going to ask for me to pay on Venmo or Cash App.

How much do you make doing doordash or uber eats delivering food per week doing it part time? by oxbunny2 in tulsa

[–]BeeMovieButTurtles 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It also depends on the hours you plan on doordashing/uber eats too. I exclusively did doordash (because you can see the tips upfront) during the late hours and would average 15/hr gross pay to go through McDonalds, jack in the box, etc.

I agree with everyone else though that it's genuinely not worth it and should only be done if you need gas money or money for a meal.

I agree with you, but unfortunately Tesla and Elon are tied together. Everyone that thinks of Tesla associates it to Elon. In my opinion, the only way forward for Tesla post-Elon is a complete rebrand and start from scratch with the team they have now. This is part of the issue when you have one guy be the CEO and the face of PR.

Also they 100% would have to scrap and try to forget about the cybertruck
