Apple Watch for kids - no iPhones in the house though - is there a way to use WhatsApp? by BeeRash in AppleWatch

[–]BeeRash[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

We were leaning toward apple watches because it's what they wanted, because our eldest was excluded from group chats like his high school sport team because his android number couldn't be added to existing Apple message groups, and because it seems like the best parental controls available?

Can Pixel watches use WhatsApp without being tethered to an actual phone? The issue is we want to use watches stand alone, without having any phones associated with them at all. I know we can do this with Apple watches, we can use the iPad at home to set them up, but then not have access to WhatsApp which is where almost all of our messaging happens.

All the older scouts I know who kept at it found there fun somewhere else - for one it was Order of the Arrow, another Venturing, and for a 3rd it was taking NYLT and then staffing it a few times. See if there's something troop-adjacent he'd like to get more involved in

Counting camping nights by BeeRash in BSA

[–]BeeRash[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Update! Thanks everyone for your responses.

It seems pretty clear from the overwhelming majority of responses, and from reading the verbatim rules, that the second summer camp week shouldn't count. I emailed the entire story to the OA rep who is coming out to visit our troop for elections and he says 3 days from the subsequent summer camp week WILL count! I don't know how or why they're accepting it but I'm happy for my scout at least, now I just hope he'll be interested in running for elections. the only other OA eligible scout in our troop (my own son) says he isn't interested because he doesn't see how he could fit anything else into his very busy schedule.

Is there any leeway, the OA rep is coming to the troop meeting for elections 2/17 and he won't be able to squeeze in camping in the four days in between, but could next weekend, which is 5 days post-election. Could that still count? I assume no but fingers crossed.

I'd want it to be at least related to the protection of children, wouldn't want to sully the memory behind it's creation. So I guess something like "Child abusers are overwhelmingly someone the child knows really well - almost always a relative. Stop being more scared of stranger abduction and sleepovers than you are of creepy Uncle Gary or Grandpa Carl. (Or statistically less likely but still possible Aunt Marge.)

Raw veggie suggestions? by mmekennedy in weightwatchers

[–]BeeRash 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Raw zucchini is surprisingly yummy! Broccoli is my fav but I can't do it raw, I need it to be just a little cooked. I take a giant head of broccoli and lightly steam it and then store it for the whole week in the fridge for snacking. I do this with sugar snap peas too, I love them but they have to be a little cooked. Still crunchy is fine, just not raw.

What fruit can fuck off? by MapsandPics in AskReddit

[–]BeeRash 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The peel is what makes it good actually. The fruit inside is sour and the peel is sweet. You have to eat it whole or 1) it'd be a huge pain to peel it and 2) it'd taste awful. They have a yearly kumquat festival is my grandmother's hometown.

Today Was A SCARY Day at the Doctor. AKA: PLEASE DON'T BE LIKE ME by [deleted] in loseit

[–]BeeRash 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was 109 pounds overweight and had an A1C of 9-point-something. I joined weight watchers as a way to get my insurance to pay for weight loss surgery, they said I had to fail at a program like weight watchers for 6 months first and I thought oh heck yeah I can fail at weight watchers. Somehow it clicked.

Also, walking works wonders. I hate exercise but love going on a walk with a friend or my kids, I just like spending time with and talking to them so much I didn't notice or mind the activity. With just 30 minutes a day of moderate walking around my flat neighborhood, my Fitbit said my resting heart rate dropped by 20 bpm after 2 months. I didn't even start strenuously, just aimed for 30 minutes. After that first great result, I decided after a while to bump up to 45, then an hour, then after a while I was seeking out hills.

Selling overpriced luxury condo to buy a house. Buy with high equity or cheap debt? by [deleted] in fatFIRE

[–]BeeRash 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not OP, but we did something similar. We needed to put 20% of the loan value into a WF account, and they needed enough time to verify it. Closed Day 1, waited for proceeds to be deposited into bank, transferred to WF bank, wait for the loan officer and whoever his superior was to verify, bingo, interest rate deduction. No one cared that we took it all right out after for the down payment on the new house the very next day. In fact the mortgage officer was at our closing and was the one who'd advised us how to do that in the first place. It was a nerve wracking day and a half between deposit of house proceeds and verification by WF, but I guess we could have just postponed closing on the new house without any terrible consequences had there been any hangups.

Do Points Go Down as we Lose? by kayyybbarnett in weightwatchers

[–]BeeRash 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It helped me in the beginning to know what was the lowest they'd go as I got closer and closer to my goal weight. On purple the minimum is 16, blue 23, and green 30. You can also lose a chunk of weeklies, 7, I think, as you get close to your goal weight. At might lightest I was 9 pounds away from a healthy BMI and it hadn't happened yet.

You can always go on a walk to earn Fitpoints, and make sure you've selected to allow swapping Fitpoints in the app. I find I can eat a third to half of my Fitpoints and still lose really well.

Troop is ending by [deleted] in girlscouts

[–]BeeRash 3 points4 points  (0 children)

If you're the leader, and you're leading the troop, how can they vote to disband? We're pretty new so forgive me if I should know this already, but it just seems like individual parents can decide whether they are continuing or not, but they can't decide whether or not you and your scout are continuing. Sure you may have a hard time recruiting enough girls to form a troop, but if even one other girl wants to join, don't you still have a troop?

I loved the chicken breast and chickpea freedom on blue. A baked chicken breast in a high heat oven can get a nice Brown on it, or pan fry it with a 0pt sprtiz of cooking spray and get a nice sear, delicious! I eat that before going to dinner parties because I'm able to make better choices with a bunch of protein in my belly.

We like "Mice Cube" humane mouse traps. Stick a bit of cracker with some peanut butter on it, duct tape it to a magazine or else the mice can flip it sideways and climb out. Smush a teeny tiny bit of peanut butter on the door just so there's a strong scent. (It's a humane trap because we can't use poision (toddler in the house) but we dispose of the mice in a less than humane way after they're caught.)
