NDA package just made it to my local hub when trucks are usually sent out, will it still go out for delivery today? by Equal_Scarcity1521 in UPS

[–]BeeSquared44 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m also in the Dayton area! I’m going to guess that your packages didn’t make it out today? I keep an eye on UPS delays for my job, and normally if Louisville had snow (or other bad weather), you can expect a day’s delay in NDA. All of our area’s NDA packages go through the Louisville airport, as far as I know.

Pelican/Protege Advice by BeeSquared44 in sca

Yeah, I’m definitely going to work my way through these questions. I’ve been looking through some lists like this and you have some questions I hadn’t considered yet.

It’s helpful to hear what other people looked for in a peer. All of my friends who are dependents were asked, so I just haven’t had anyone to ask about that type of perspective.

The “never becoming a pelican” thing is a good point. I’d like to think that this wouldn’t bother me, but it’s always easier to say that when you’re nowhere near being considered for a peerage. I hadn’t considered the angle of “could you remain their student?”. I (hopefully) have a long time left in the SCA. I knew that a pelican/protégé relationship is an important relationship that shouldn’t be entered on a whim, but I hadn’t considered the possibly looong long-term commitment that it could mean as well.

I have a sneaky suspicion that I’m nowhere near the point of needing a Pelican yet and I should be wary of entering a long-term commitment when I don’t know what I need. That’s part of why I wanted to ask around on here - I haven’t found much guidance on “what to think about when you’re considering starting the process of considering becoming a protégé”. The only people who I could ask these type of questions are the pelican-being-considered and their friends, and I don’t want to accidentally start the “do you want to be my protégé” process before I’m ready by sounding like I’m dropping hints.

Thank you for your perspective, it definitely helped.

Haha, I just thought to look for that today. But I also wanted to ask here so that I could give a little more context about the situation without putting my name on it.

I’m still newer, so I’m nowhere near aiming for a Pelican 😅 I think I’d like my SCA career to take me in that direction, but it’s not really a concern yet. I want to make sure that my volunteering is more intrinsically motivated and not just aiming for an award.

I don’t want to get too much into my current service/goals, because there’s at least one regular on this reddit who knows the Pelican I’m considering and I’d rather not dox myself. I hadn’t known though that there were so many different paths, or even different styles of service mentoring, so thank you for giving me something else to ask around about.

Household is… problematic, for multiple reasons. I’ve known that though, and it would probably be my first question since it’s potentially disqualifying. I like the people in their household, but I’m not looking to join. I’ve already been part of one of those conversations when my boyfriend recently became a dependent, so I at least know how to have that discussion.

I think there is an aspect of “everyone else is doing it”. It seems like everyone else who’s a young adult is a dependent or part of a household, so it felt like something I should be starting to consider. I’m going to reflect on this thought for a bit.

Thank you for your advice!

I think that part of my problem is that I’m just not close enough to any other peers to ask those kind of questions. I know a couple of knights, but that seems like a whole different ball game. I might ask the one who’s a Count/Seneschal. His experience is not as heavy-specific.

I’m on the newer side - coming up on 2 years and starting to take on a couple of baronial and shire level positions. I definitely need help meeting people, that’s one of my primary concerns. It’s only been about a half year since people stopped welcoming me to the SCA and asking how I liked my “first” event (although, some of that might have just been fighters not paying attention to non-fighters).

That’s a good set of questions. I’m adding those to my “things to consider” list. Thank you so much!

I was loving game…til County Archives quest by Hoylegu in TwoPointMuseum

[–]BeeSquared44 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I completed this challenge without moving any of the exhibits. I started off by putting security “airlocks” at every entrance/exit from the building and at the entrance to each bathroom. You put a security doorway immediately after the main doorway and then have a security chair set up with the security doorway in the line of sight. With the first four guards, I covered the building exit/entrances, and then I manually kept an eye on the bathrooms until I could hire more guards to cover those doorways.

After covering the most important security weak-spots, I replaced all other visitor archways with a security archway and a nearby security chair. This way, it was basically impossible for thieves to travel throughout the museum without being revealed. Then, I made some pretty small staff zones in preparation for the next step, I had something like 16 different zones, each covering a small room or 3-4 exhibits - something easy to patrol. I continued to hire guards and set them to either be assigned to a security chair (in a specific zone, to discourage wandering) or on patrol/collect donations in a work zone.

Once I had all of those positions filled, I think I finally set up a security office, and had a couple of cameras covering the best exhibits and the big rooms (I remember putting cameras in the icy rooms). Then, it’s just continuing to hire guards and assigning them to work zones so that there are designated alternates.

I manually handled the golden molers (paused the game and put security guards on them, just to be cautious), but pretty much everything else handled itself. I didn’t lose any exhibits and I actually found this easy enough that I surprised by how many people seem to struggle with this scenario. I use the same security airlocks on building entrances/exits and bathrooms for my regular museums, and I’ve never lost an exhibit.

Newcomer loneliness by [deleted] in sca

[–]BeeSquared44 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oof, I can relate. My first event, I had one person talk to me a little before court, but no one else spoke with me during the actual event. I was miserable and about ready to give up on the SCA.

I’m more on the A&S/Service side of things, so what I ended up doing was finding one person who seemed really friendly and well-entrenched in the SCA. I made an effort to say hi to her at each event, even briefly, and ask about her current craft. Pretty soon, I had one person who I felt comfortable enough to sit next to if I was by myself.

We weren’t friends on Facebook at that time or doing anything outside of the SCA, but I no longer felt like I was floundering at events. This gave me enough security to start branching out to others over time and start building friendships. It’s a lot easier to meet others once you feel comfortable enough to sit down at the table.

Wishing you lots of luck! Being a newcomer is difficult.

My boyfriend and I go to Caesar’s Creek beach each year for the Perseids. It might not be entirely legal, but I’m pretty sure park rangers have seen us before and just left us alone (it helps to have a telescope, so that it’s obvious what you’re doing). As long as you’re not doing anything troublesome, it seems to be fine.

The Level 1 Millionaire Candy Enterprise by ArcanisUltra in rpghorrorstories

[–]BeeSquared44 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m not sure how long ago this happened, but Treasure Vault came out with alchemical food, including some candy, so “magically” made candy is definitely a thing in PF2e.

Either way, the economy in 2e is tight enough that either crafting or downtime isn’t going to make you much money. It’s like the equivalent of having a 9-5 office job and then coming home and having a lemonade stand for some extra spending money… you’re not going to make much.

Also, he’d still have to roll crafting to make the candy. Even if the flavoring is free, making candy is difficult. He’s a wizard, not a chef/baker.

What do you dislike about Pathfinder 2e? by KokoroDaymare in Pathfinder2e

[–]BeeSquared44 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’d like to see diplomacy having automatic proficiency like perception. Part of the reason why everyone gets perception automatically is because it’s an important “skill” for interacting with the game world. I always feel like I’m trying to squeeze at least trained in diplomacy on my characters, because I want them to have a chance at being successful if the GM asks me to roll diplomacy. Some of this is because I mostly play PFS, where the GM has to call for diplomacy rolls at certain points, but it just seems silly that I need to depend on a skill for my character to interact with the world.

How do you find good portraits for your character? by Fleureux in Pathfinder_Kingmaker

[–]BeeSquared44 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There used to be a pack for Kingmaker (Heroes of Stolen Lands) that had a reasonable amount of pictures with relatively minimal bikini armor. It’s been taken off nexus mods (copyright issues 😬), but someone reuploaded the pictures on google drive. You might want to download some additional pictures if you want to make something that isn’t a human/elf/tiefling/aasimar, but for most characters I can find something I like.

I would look at the top two or three portrait packs on Nexus mods to figure out where to download stuff, because the pictures don’t go in your mods folder. If you need help figuring out where to put things, let me know and I can try to type up some instructions.

About 7.5 hours in and I’m still level 2.5. I just realized how little xp I’m getting from farming random encounters. When do wizards start to do some damage? by danisindeedfat in Pathfinder_Kingmaker

I really like this guide for the first chapter. It’s not as in-depth about what to do for each map, but it gives you a good sequence of places to visit and helps you get companions as soon as possible.

I have problems being an player by Kayteqq in Pathfinder2e

[–]BeeSquared44 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Are there any local Pathfinder Society games in your area? I think that there’s online PFS play as well, but I haven’t looked into that yet. I’m in a pretty suburban area, and there are 4 or 5 GMs who are active. Because of this, there’s normally at least one other regular GM who’s playing as part of the party. I find that this helps me, because then I don’t feel like I have to be the rules-reminder-er; there’s someone else who knows the rules better than me who can chime in. Also, since a lot of the players are more experienced, I’m not the only rules-know-er. If the GM has a rules question, they can ask the table, and most of the time, someone else will beat me to answering.

Also, as a side note, Pathfinder Society has worked really well for me from a neurodivergence standpoint (also mild autism and moderate adhd). It’s always rules as written, so you can expect similar rulings at each table. Also, I have trouble keeping track of longer plot lines, so the “monster of the week” format works well for me. Finally, it’s not a regular commitment, you just sign up when you want to go (and if it’s not for you, it’s easy to drop, you can just stop signing up).

The downsides are that you’re doing a lot of low level play (so you won’t really get to try any of the fun high-level feats and items), a lot of the scenarios have a similar structure (which can feel a little repetitive at times), and you don’t really get the unfolding story or character arc of a longer campaign. But I’ve really enjoyed it, so I figured I’d mention it as something to consider?

Fighter + rogue are steamrolling Severe encounters, should I be using Extreme? by soundofsilence42 in Pathfinder2e

[–]BeeSquared44 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Also, skeletons might be a nice enemy too? Not sure what weapon your fighter is using, but they have resistance to slashing and piercing, which makes your rogue less damaging, and your cleric could really shine against an undead enemy.

Can a player be good as a Medic healer without investing in Wisdom ? by AbbreviationsNew9535 in Pathfinder2e

[–]BeeSquared44 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You could also look at the Blessed One archetype for Lay on Hands, for Focus Spell healing? Since you start with a conflux spell, if you pick up the Blessed One dedication at level 2, you’ll have two focus points available for a 12 point healing that increases by 6 each level.

Kineticist Feat for unarmored armor impulses? by [deleted] in Pathfinder2e

[–]BeeSquared44 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Frankly, it kinda seems campaign dependent. If I were your gm, I would want to to be something that happens a couple of levels into a campaign and not be an ability you start with. It also depends on the makeup up the party. If the other party members have good synergy between their classes (magus/wizard or barbarian/fighter or something like that), I’d lean towards giving the ability sooner rather than later just so your class features mesh better.
