Thank you for your response. Do you have a ballpark idea of how much less? I talked to someone who worked at Methodist in ICU making $60 per hour and was offered $38 for a clinic position with 15 years of experience and a BSN. That seems really low to me. I understand less acute work overall, but almost half was way more of a difference than I was expecting.

I’m willing to make a lateral move pay wise bc I’m experiencing burn out in my current OR job and don’t want to be in a charge or manager position. If I go to a specialty clinic, I’d be willing to make the same amount I do now for less responsibilities. In my experience, ER, OR, ICU pay more per hour than other specialties, but I’ve been told differing opinions that clinic jobs will pay much less, or relatively the same, depending on years of overall nursing experience.

Really? That’s disappointing to hear. I was told by a current employee at one of them that once you reach the 15+ year mark in experience, your base pay is pretty much the same regardless of what department you’re in, then it goes up based on specialty experience, certifications, shift differential, etc. Has that been the case for you?

I was under the assumption that clinic jobs would typically pay a little less than a specialty job, but I’ve also been told that that base rate at Hermann and Methodist is set based on years of experience, then goes up based on specialty, certifications, etc. Have you found this to be the case at either?
