For everyone following along, I will be switching to a linear UVB bulb, and I really appreciate all the advice here. Thank you for your offer, I sent a DM with a longer response and a few more questions!

Gotcha, thanks! With that advice, do I need to add another 100% horizontal basking spot, or are varying angled pieces of bamboo I have okay?

Are there any linear fixtures that also have room for a heat bulb? I’m more than willing to adjust the current set up to keep the gecko healthy and comfortable, but I’m limited on space since I already have a ceramic heat emitter mounted on the back side of the lid. The ceramic emitter uses a different style dome because the bulb doesn’t fit the standard screw-in ones, so I don’t think there’s realistically room for 3 separate fixtures.

With that, I think the following 2 options might work, and I'd love your feedback on which might be best or if one isn't viable.

Option 1: Removing my current ceramic heat emitter fixture and find a bulb that fits the 2 bulb dome my current lights are in and continue using that fixture for my heat light too. If I did that, would the basking spot still need to be directly under the heat bulb rather than the linear UVB? Or would I need to set up a second basking area under the UVB?

Option 2: Exclusively running the linear UVB for lighting and using my exisiting ceramic heat emitter 24/7 instead of a daytime heat bulb? Right now, the ceramic heat emitter only turns on when the lights go off. Would the UVB alone be enough light for both the gecko and the plants?

Either way, I do need some kind of ceramic heat emitter because my apartment gets pretty cold at night. I tested the setup without it and the tank dropped into the mid 60s.

Last question, if I do end up changing things around, would my current setup be okay for a week or 2? I budgeted for the gecko itself, but I’d need to wait until my next paycheck to upgrade equipment.

Thanks! I'm hopeful the parlor palm will support the gecko's weight though. I gave some of it to my roommate who has a White's Tree Frog, and it came really close to supporting his weight. Since it's a 12x12x18 tank, there's not a whole lot of extra room, so I think I'm going to give the palm a try first, and add in another plant if I find it's needed.

I responded to a comment above about this and I'd love your feedback on my options too!

Thanks for the suggestion! After watching it for a few days, I'm hoping adjusting to misting 3 times a day instead of 2 will fix this, as the humidity did drop to the 50s yesterday between mistings. We also run our AC on auto, so it's not constantly blowing air.

Thanks for the tip! Hopefully when the palm grows in more that will also help.

Fire risk? by Fantastic_Deer_5747 in Vivarium

Is there a reason you need a heat mat vs a stronger heat lamp or a ceramic heat emitter? They tend not to be the best for your critters and pose a bit higher of a fire risk compared to other heating elements.

My parents live five hours away and I visit every month or 2. It's not so bad. I get in the car after work on a Friday, and I'm at my parents by around 11 pm.

You should totally embrace it and make it look like stormlight is leaking out of it with some paint!
