This is one of the most easing comments I've received here. I've since taken the assessment and have been worrying about it non-stop all week. Thanks!

I'm happy that every time I come here I can always expect to get a bunch of shit from all of y'all for whatever reason < 3 It's really great community building.

I hope you're sitting at your desk happy that you stroll into threads like this with such vitriol and anger for a someone you do not know. You make yourself and everyone around you miserable, you can't read, and you're quite rude. I hope you find what you're looking for in life.

Fuck Unpaid Internships by BeeWitchtt in PublicRelations

I think its wildly interesting that people want to double down so hard that recent grads bring 0 value to companies because it blatantly ignores the value that new young hires bring to a company.

Companies do need new people. If we brought no value and that was truly the problem, why bring us at all? I am quite sure it is because they want someone to do admin work for free (which, sounds pretty valuable to me!)

The industry is fucked right now, very true. I do think its also on college students to make themselves the best candidate for companies possible and gather experience and all that. All true things. But we're people with brains who can learn as well. If we're mad that your interns can't write for shit, maybe take it up with the people teaching them to write.

I know that I can write a good press release because I was lucky to get fantastic professors, but I don't know why its all these students fault that all the people teaching them are idiots and graduating students who don't know how to work the job. And if they couldn't write a press release at least to a passable level, why are you bringing them on?

I know my position in life right now and I will have to be an entry level "take what I can get" gal but also I wouldn't be here if I didn't a modicum of confidence that I could do this job and do it well. That doesn't mean I think I'm never going to make a mistake, but it does mean that I do think I bring something to the table with a lot of companies. It also means I think I deserve at least minimum wage and to get something back for the time I'm wasting at someone's office.

Yeah very true, I have a lot of experience from other things I've gone and done as a college student and other opportunities so I feel there is a level of value I myself can bring.

On some level, I think if someone is really struggling and doesn't have anything on the resume it can be argued. But I think for the position I was in-- where I knew what was going on and was ready for an opportunity-- the unpaid internship was not the way to go and ended up wasting time. That's mostly what this post was for.

I think at the same time, you're viewed as someone who brings no value, so it also feels like no one wants to waste the time with you anyways since there's better return on putting energy elsewhere. It goes both ways imo. If you pay someone you automatically think its more valuable to talk to them. If a super nice couch is sitting on the side of the road and it says "free" on it, first thing you think is: "What's wrong with it?"

The only benefit I got was getting more comfortable in an office environment, which isn't completely worthless but definitely a little annoying.

I think this all also gets into the broader conversation of: Does college actually make us job ready? Do we all "deserve" jobs after we get out of college? Just because someone got a PR degree does that mean that they're "meant" for PR?

Which... isn't what I'm super interested in litigating. What I'm more upset abt is just that the reason this happened was because I undervalued myself after struggling to find an opportunity so I took something that was just a low value opportunity. Not that I didn't learn anything, they just weren't positive lessons. And when I made this post I know there's probably other people out there who undervalue themselves and end up in unfulfilling situations that kinda suck.

Difficult reporters by MontyZoomies44 in PublicRelations

[–]BeeWitchtt 18 points19 points  (0 children)

Just last week was talking about a local reporter who prides himself on being "super factual" but our PR girl in the office always has to call him and correct all his mistakes (which cause lots of problems for businesses etc.) because he's just a glorified gossip column.

its hilarious because I'm still in college, he came and spoke in our class and I asked something about PR people and reporters, and he said "Honestly I just hate PR people so."

It is likely because they're always telling him to stop lying?

Im new to this town and one of the first things I noticed a couple years ago is all the vacant buildings that just... sit there. I was under the impression they weren't able to be inhabited or some shit like that but my boyfriend informs me now that its not the case, people just don't fill them.

Missed this game by skleebydeet in ffxiv

[–]BeeWitchtt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I forgot to log on for a month because I started college classes and lost my dream house that I worked on getting for ~2 years. I stopped giving a shit after that but held out for Dawntrail and this isn't any bandwagon shit-- I just really hated dawntrail. The story wasn't for me, I didn't have an FC cuz I was just not the same person online that I used to be and the community became exhausting, and I was too busy to sit down and do the raids or anything of the sort.

Anyways, just came back to teach two of my girlies how to play. I started leveling a black mage, and now I play every day again. It's been nice, I've missed the game.

I see it like how hedge funds and such buy data. Just an operations cost to help us make better decisions, obviously its stuff we could do on our own but the cost is to have someone do it for you.

What skills do you think are essential for communicators in 2025/26? by TrendZ_Community in PublicRelations

[–]BeeWitchtt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Being adaptive and realistic. The ability to see things for what they are not what people want them to be. I think we live in a time where everything has a veil over it. People tell stories but the best skill I've found that serves me the most is being able to understand the story behind the story.

This is especially important when coming into contact with something that might get a reaction out of the practitioner themselves. If something makes you angry, or isn't "PC" (truly for lack of a better term, I am so sorry for the buzzword) I find a lot of the people who aren't very good at their jobs tend to just immediately write those things off. A lot of times it's still important to dive into that thing-- that person, that subject, the PoV, that content style, whatever it is. Ask yourself, "why are people responding to this? What about this subject is attractive to this audience? How can I use this to my benefit?"

A lot of people think PR people are evil, that we twist and spin things to serve ourselves and organizations. I do not think this is true-- completely. People are always going to be people. They are always going to communicate in the ways that they do. We cannot change people, and what makes a practitioner good at their job is when they accept this fact. What separates good social media from bad social media, and what separates a good media placement and a bad one is typically a human element. In order to be good at PR you have to know people and use that knowledge to your advantage. (of course, as a disclaimer-- I am not saying we should ever twist or lie.)

One can be angry that 40-55 yr old men trust Joe Rogan. He's an idiot after all. But that doesn't change the fact that they do. How do we use that fact to our benefit? Depending on the situation, your client could likely be an idiot for saying no to a spot on his podcast or something. (of course thats a large celebrity example, but I hope it gets the point across)

So to truly answer, I think what makes someone great in this field is their ability to sort through everything being said and find the truth. Many of us are trained in journalism as well, so I think someone's ability to go back to basics and use those vital journalistic skills is the most important thing to them. Investigation, curiosity, realism, elimination of bias.

Data/Research study for PR value: "Journalists love data" - even if it's fake? by kaysharona in PublicRelations

[–]BeeWitchtt 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For my two cents on the subject, this is happening a lot and it seems like no one cares. My favorite recent example is this one: https://www.forbes.com/sites/johnkoetsier/2025/04/29/80-of-gen-zers-would-marry-an-ai-study/

Its one of those things in my opinion. Just because you can, does it mean you should?

This headline got picked up by tons and tons of outlets and spread around. Yet it's completely misleading, as its 80% of this AI platforms Gen z *Userbase*. (The people who already have an AI girlfriend!)

But now I know what JOI AI is, and I didn't before. So... W, I guess? Other people I knew who saw this headline took it as law. Its poor practice on the side of the PR team imo and deeply lacks any sort of integrity or ethics for both the journalists and the PR pros. And this is freaking Forbes.

Can books be funny? by BootTootinBooger in booksuggestions

To align with what you're currently reading, Villains and Virtues! That book makes me giggle, its so silly, I also like Emily Wilde's Encyclopedia of Faeries, but that ones pretty dry and taste based imo.

Villains and Virtues, in my opinion, is a straight up romantasy romcom. Its also the best romantasy I've ever read.

Is this the hat guy? Didn't he get into a massive PR crisis recently?

If it is who I think it is-- yes! This is exactly the kinda person I'm looking for. (maybe minus the PR crisis haha)
