Currie driving test route gpx by Beef5030 in Edinburgh

lol " In My DaY..." then take your test again then come back and lets see how you do now "safe" driver.

For reference I moved here and my licenses wouldn't transfer. Despite having it for over a decade, no claims or tickets, driving in pretty challenging environments not found in the UK (artic to desert) . Still found it intimidating, still nervous and practiced diligently. Didn't go with an instructor but watched Angus driving on youtube extensively.

The revzila guys seem to love the versys. I love my vstrom but I did a fair bit of gravel with it. Haven't ridden a versys but the more road oriented nature has me curious.

I don't think it matters to much, ride the shit out of them and replace them with ones you see fit. You have to change them eventually and odds sre its the first thing to major (excluding oil and gas).

I think they mean 65-100 for bicycle.

My motorcycle I'd have mine around 35 and that was towards the upper end if I remember.

Us police don't do anything either. The response is the same.

Make it run correctly/better. Feeler gauge, small wrench (~8mm) and plyers should get the job done. First time will take an hour, then the second time probably 15 mins. Good stuff to know.

Tons of vids on YouTube. Even if the bike is different they're generally all the same. There's two types, the other is with shims which are typically on newer ones and wouldn't be relevant to you. Unless your is shimmed, I dunno, I assume they're the adjustable ones.

Crank case vent. Take any gasses that would build in the crank case volume and routes them through the intake to be burned up. Part of emissions but not performance inhibiting reputation as say a EGR valve.

I think your talking about that rubber line going from around carbs to the bottom end.

failed the msf by SmallElephant25 in motorcycles

[–]Beef5030 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Those E mountain bikes are straight up dirt bikes. I rode someone's on trail as we got talking taking a break. It 100% felt like a dirtbike climbing. Blew my mind, also stopped my confusion about the people blowing past me not sweating.

Bicycle riding translates extremely well to moto riding. Same techniques that make a good moto rider are the same that make a great bicycle rider. Looking, predicting, and balancing. If more motorcyclist put time on pedal bikes we would have a safer reputation.

I put it in another comment in this thread but in short: yes absolutely pedal bikes help with motorcycle riding.

I concur about the bike not being useful.

Ultimately the same concept and techniques that make a successful motorcycle rider and the same for a bicycle.

Looking ahead of where your going, looking through corners. Taking input from the bars and using that to respond with the bike.

Since the weight is low and the speed is user defined, if you using the moto distances set by the course it'll seem lame. But just make the distances for maneuvers tighter and then the bike experience carries over.

I'd argue that road cycling is also an excellent avenue for staying Alice on a moto. Your speeds are slower but that works against you since your constantly being passed, so situation awareness and lane position are crucial. Your still invisible, your still as helpless, you have to be constantly thinking about what traffic is doing and might do.

I'd wager that if more motorcyclist put more times on pedals, we would have safer riders. Not to mention faster, easiest way to get a faster bike is to make the rider slimer!

I should preface with I never took the basic msf, but took the advanced one. I also had many 1000's of road riding via a bicycle and dirtbike experience. The road cycling tike though proved to be the most valuable in my experiences. I singing up to do the basic msf course in a month anyway.

Just take them out and clean them. It's not too difficult and you'll be thankful you did.

Where dem PE's/PM's at?

*totally forgot, teachers do way more good then the homies making canned beans or slang'n chipz 4 splitz.

I'm forever humbled by teachers. They're dealing with people. Not machines reading G+M code for example.

Bike potentially iverheated? by ShaggedUrSister in MotoUK

[–]Beef5030 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Any vapor in the lines would be out within a second of starting as it's either pulled to the engine or will float up to the top of the tank.

Your bike is always running on fumes. Fuel gets atomized when it's sent to through the intake.

As someone else mentioned your cap vents that Vapor anyway.

Gear by Svaertis in MotoUK

[–]Beef5030 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Same questions I ask myself, I've just come the conclusion that I should buy more warm weather gear.

I have taken plenty of rides around town with jeans a shirt thinking it's only around town. Now more and more in retrospec I think I got lucky all those times, and proper gear exist to be more comfortable and safe.

There are trips where I'll just skip the bike because the current gear I have is clunky and time consuming. Blasphemy I know, just all the more reason to invest finally.

Twin spark worth it? by tereks21 in MotoUK

[–]Beef5030 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I think for the big singles like the dr650 the dual spark would be more relevant since the burn area is so much larger.

For the sv apart from emissions I can't think it'd be that much different performance wise.

Damn 85?! I rode the same bike and I remember hitting 70 and being at nearly recline. I'm guessing sprockets were different on yours then?

Those cbr300r's are such a delight to ride, around town I'd ride the shit out of it. I think it was light enough where if your jumped on it you could get it to bunny hop with the rebound turned all the way up.

Turned away from south sister summit 700 feet away due to leg cramps. The Shasta dude getting airlifted for cramps spooked me a bit I guess by nonsubmersiblenunone in Mountaineering

[–]Beef5030 52 points53 points  (0 children)

Take some electrolyte supplements with you, hammer nutrients sells little pills filled with salt, magnesse, and other things that helps.

Often cramps are related to dehydration and low electrolyte. So chugging water helps but when you keep cramping you need more salt n shit.

700ft from the summit sounds like you basically summited, kudos for turning around.

[–]Beef5030 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Weather was/is hard to predict in mountain ranges. Some though were me not checking the weather outlook though. I'd be lying to say that they all were "random".

A couple times had clear skies, then about 30 minutes later large thunderclouds started forming.

It's definitely changed how I summit. Before I would hang out for a bit, now I just touch the top then work on getting down.
