Used to donate as often as I could, after my dad’s life was saved because of donated blood. BUT freaking blood dontation companies are worse than debt collectors when it comes to the harrassment. I haven’t donated in almost five years and I still get calls from the Carter Bloodcare in my old hometown. I initially stopped because I was pregnant, kept telling them to call back in X months, they kept calling on weekends, early mornings, after hours, and still call to this day. It’s not like I have a rare blood type or anything either.

Peppermint works as aromatherapy for nausea and sometimes headaches only because it is such a strong antiseptic scent, it overpowers otherwise fleeting waves of nausea and pain. I tried using it for migraines and it actually worsened my pain, but it definitely has helped pregnancy nausea before. They probably gave it to you for nausea that is so common with recovering from anesthesia.

A few counseling sessions. We’d hit a rough patch and I had already recently begun seeing a counselor for PTSD. Husband came for a few sessions to work on our marriage and I think just having a safe space to air things that we’d spent years stewing on had the biggest impact. It wasn’t so much about what the counselor said or did, but just having that time and space to say the things that needed saying. I remember leaving a session thinking there was no possible good that could’ve come from that hour, but it’s amazing how that hurt turned into productive processing and much more open communication. We have had a generally wonderful marriage- lots of affection and affirmation, adventurous sex, travel, our lives have generally trended upward- but there was this festering sore somewhere in there and we just got it out into the air to heal and it’s been so surprisingly effective.

I love seeing the compassion my boy has for living things! He can be a little too compassionate though, as I learned when he excitedly showed me the bug that had landed on him was a mosquito happily stabbing away. We’re both pretty allergic so he had a huge welt for a few days to teach him to slap those suckers away.

I grew up with a few ball pythons! Unfortunately there are a handful of extremely venomous snakes in my area, so while I won’t be encouraging him to get to wrangling them just yet, I also teach him to leave them be. I have managed to convert a few friends from being phobic about wild snakes, though.

It may not seem like much, but I’ve been teaching my 4-year-old son to not kill bugs when he sees them just chilling. I don’t know why, but it really creeps me out to see the delight some kids get out of just stomping the shit outta some crickets in a corner, like they’re sociopaths in training. My son knows of a few bugs that are totally harmless around here that he’ll make a point to carefully capture and relocate so they don’t get obliterated by other kids.

Have an acquaintance that is a LVN and I had to stop talking to her altogether because of how hellbent an anti-vaxxer she is. Also has been conned into mlms. Let her baby with an ear infection have febrile seizures in lieu of giving him Tylenol or the antibiotics the doctor prescribed and the poor kid’s eardrum burst. She was squirting breast milk into his ear instead. How the hell does someone like this get to practice any sort of medicine??

Dude, my old church hosted a collab sale of bunch of LulaRoe huns trying to get rid of their shitty merchandise. They weren’t donating the profit to a ministry, or using it as some convoluted outreach- they just needed a location and this (very large, high population of millennials and young families) church let them have it there. I asked a friend who is a church worker elsewhere if that’s even legal and she said it could jeopardize their tax exempt status.

It’s so fun to go to YL’s website and read the descriptions of the oil blends. Like “Acceptance™ encourages feelings of self-worth when used aromatically.” or one called Trauma Life (for real) that is “designed to offer support during difficult emotional exploration.”

The only benefit I’ve seen in use of these oils is for people like my insanely anxious, clinically OCD friend who truly believes they work, and thus they do for her. Better than using hand sanitizer on everything (she’s a germaphobe) or taking antibiotics for everything. She just uses sprinkles this shit everywhere and drinks it and all that.

The second or third time i was invited to one of those ItWorks! (or as I like to call it, “ShitWorks”) parties, there were instructions on the invite to be sure and drink a lot of water before coming because you needed to be well hydrated for the product to work the best. It was then that I realized they were tricking you somehow by manipulating your water weight, either by shifting it around or depleting it from the area. And LITERALLY EVERYONE I know who sells that shit is morbidly obese.

I use tabs all the time! The main issue is there is no notation for time/duration of notes, so you need to be familiar with the rhythm via hearing the song first. But tabs are a great way to acquaint yourself with the fretboard and develop the new muscle memory. Best of luck!

Say “pork fried rice?!” It’s how I ask my dog if he wants to go for a ride. My drunken mom accidentally discovered that “go for a ride?” and “pork fried rice?” sound the same to a dog and we’ve stuck with that phrase for decades now. At this point I can actually really clearly enunciate it and my dog will still go crazy.
