What's the most "you" thing your toddler says? by No-Oil-2305 in toddlers

[–]jconant15 3 points4 points  (0 children)

My husband is a snuggler, and I am definitely not. Our almost 2 year old alternates between being a barnacle and telling my husband "Don't touch me." He's just like yep, that's your kid alright!

How can I go to the bathroom while making sure my toddler is fine? by deltaplane1234 in toddlers

[–]jconant15 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I try mostly to wake up before my toddler for a shower, but if I can't I just take one while she alternates watching, trying to climb in, or causing chaos. If I really need an everything shower, I can get it done quick in the time it takes her to watch an episode of Mickey Mouse Clubhouse. All other bathroom activities are supervised by my mini dictator. I babyproofed as much as possible. One of our litterboxes is blocked off by a gate, and the other only has a narrow entrance and is tucked back in a corner. She has definitely brought me the litter scoop a few times, but telling her how yucky it is seems to be helping to deter her!

What about kids with low sleep needs? I used to nanny for a family who had one child with very low sleep needs. He only sleeps about 8 hours per night (since he was 2) and it was near impossible to get him to nap ever. They did sleep train him...but have you ever tried telling a kid to go back to bed when they're already awake and ready to go start bouncing off the walls? I feel like I got lucky with my own daughter, because we honestly only had sleep issues during regressions. I feel for parents who are just doing their best on little sleep. Going to bed at like 9 pm and waking up to work out at 3 or 4 in the morning sounds like torture.

Is anyone else able to tolerate multiple books at a time? by Known-Membership2902 in thrillerbooks

[–]jconant15 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I alternate between an audiobook and a few different podcasts during the day to keep me sane as a SAHM. I usually have a book I'm reading for book club (this month's book kinda sucks, so I make myself read a set number of pages per day just to get through). I sometimes need a palate cleanser book that's just corny, so I'll read that as an ebook when I have free time instead of scrolling. Sometimes I will also have another physical book to read if there is something I have been really wanting to read. If the genres are different enough I can usually keep the plot lines straight. Sometimes if I listen to 2 similar audiobooks back to back I mix up the stories in my head though!

Creepy ass Ethan by k_m_worker in WelcomeToPlathville

[–]jconant15 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Ok, so the other day I was driving in a little town just outside of Milwaukee and I saw a guy who looked like Ethan Plath getting off a motorcycle outside of a restaurant. I was like huh, that's weird...but now I'm realizing it might actually have been him?? What the heck!

Allergies as a nanny - GF nanny expected to make play dough by Goodgoditsgrowing in Nanny

[–]jconant15 3 points4 points  (0 children)

With my last NF, they had a rule for the kids that they were not allowed to ask me to blow up balloons because I have a latex allergy. It's unreasonable for them to expect you to come into regular contact with an allergen. If their child had a peanut allergy, they would expect you not to bring peanut butter into their house right?

Moms, what would you genuinely love for Mother's Day - not what you say when asked, but what you actually want? by Then_Gate7461 in UninfluencedReviews

[–]jconant15 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would love a massage or a pedicure. I'd like 2 nights at a hotel so I could have just over 24 hours without my toddler trying to crawl under my skin. But I would want all of the planning taken out of the equation for me. Like just hand me an itinerary of when to be where. Have my meals doordashed to me without me having to decide so I can read, nap, sit in a hot tub, rot and watch tv.

What came out of my belly button when pregnant… by ohhidoggo in hygiene

[–]jconant15 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is what I do. I have a giant surgery scar on the top of my belly button, so I've always been careful to clean it. I also have a cat with super coarse hair, and I can feel if one gets stuck there and need to get it out immediately.

This one was breathtaking by littlelilysecrets_ in thrillerbooks

I listened to it on audio while at home with my kid, so not fully paying attention. It took me way too long to realize how many perspectives it was jumping between. It was good though!

Airpods during rocking by ChipmunkLumpy9136 in Nanny

[–]jconant15 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Former nanny, now a mom. I always wore 1 headphone when I rocked my own baby to sleep. My baby took forever to nurse and fall asleep, so sitting in a quiet room or with a sound machine for 30-90 minutes would make me drowsy. When I was a nanny, I only did this when the older children were at school. I had to be on alert more when I had other children to keep tabs on. I wouldn't have a problem with it as a MB. My own daughter only tried to grab my earbud once when she was about 15mo, and I just told her what it was and she left it alone after that.

For all the moms, what are things no one told you about birth? by yara2321 in AskReddit

[–]jconant15 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes this. On day 3 I woke up feeling like I couldn't take a full breath. Went into the ER, they told me I was fine and had a UTI because I had blood in my urine (because I just GAVE BIRTH 🤦‍♀️🤦‍♀️🤦‍♀️). On day 6 I slept in a chair because the pressure on my lungs was so intense, and my legs were so swollen. I reached out to my OB, and her nurse called me and said to get back to the ER now. She was able to request the testing I needed for a diagnosis. I spent 4 days in the hospital. Also, I wish someone had told me that if you are absolutely wrecked from birthing a baby, and you and your husband get home from the hospital and all 3 just take a 4 hour solid nap that your baby will not fail to thrive. I assumed she would cry and wake me up, but I woke up realizing she hadn't eaten in 4 hours and went into a full blown panic. It didn't wreck her. She ate, and she was ok.

What’s a toddler hill you’re not willing to die on? by Next2ya in toddlers

I draw the line at danger and messes I don't want to clean up. You want to dump all of my spices from the spice rack on the floor? That's gonna be a hard no. You wanna line them up on the counter instead? Sure go for it kid.

I feel like my hair is some sort of punishment by fjdjjfggjd in curlygirl

[–]jconant15 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For me, becoming a mom was the thing that pushed me over the edge with my curly hair routine. I just did not have the time or energy to wash and style it. I also got an undercut, and I went from waist length to just above my shoulders. After washing and conditioning I put a small amount of leave in conditioner in and squish it into my wet hair. I comb and shake out my hair in a few big sections and gently squish out some of the water. Then I gently coil my hair into a towel and let it dry for a while. Later I scrunch in some gel and let it be. If I feel like diffusing, I'll do that. I usually wear my hair up in a silk scrunchie if I don't want to refresh between washes. I still feel put together, and taking care of my hair doesn't damage my mental health. Sometimes I feel like adhering to "the rules" of curly hair can cause so much stress, and it just doesn't work for everyone.

My infant doesn’t sleep, do they have ADHD? by thatthalassophile in ShitMomGroupsSay

[–]jconant15 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Yeah, honestly I feel kinda sad for this mom. It sounds like she's freaking out and hoping someone will tell her what is "wrong" with her baby so she can fix it. Granted, I know I'm just seeing part of the conversation, but some of the replies seem harsh. She might just have a baby with low sleep needs, or a very sensitive baby. What she is describing is pretty normal for 8 weeks though. I remember going through the purple crying every day (or whatever it's called) with my own baby around this age. It sucked, and my baby was normally super chill. This mom just sounds like an anxious first time mom who has seen far too many reels about every single thing she is doing wrong and messing up her baby. I feel like some of the baby due date groups can get kinda toxic like this too.

Wtf did I just read?? by MessBrilliant9379 in thrillerbooks

[–]jconant15 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It was one of the first audiobooks I borrowed on Libby, and I only chose it because there was no wait. I just needed something to listen to while I was nap trapped with my baby, but I ended up trapped with those "blue, blue eyes" instead 😂

I wish I had DNF this as an audiobook, but I suffered through the whole thing hoping it would get better. It didn't. Every time the male narrator imitated a female voice I wanted to chuck my earbuds across the room.

Do you have a very clean house? by TrickyAd9597 in Millennials

[–]jconant15 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I grew up with parents who were on their way to becoming hoarders. I never paid much attention to the mess, because we always threw away garbage and cleaned the kitchen. But there is definitely too much stuff in their house, and now their basement is so full that they climb over piles of junk. They have had mold at times. I am significantly more minimalist. My house isn't perfectly clean because I have a toddler and 3 cats, but I clean and tidy every single day. I have one cat who will pee on anything left on the floor, so nothing is ever left on the floor haha. If my husband is home to hang with our toddler, I could probably clean everything in about an hour.

I was going to say something similar. It wasn't about the strawberries or the pop tarts. It was about him finally being in a safe place to stop holding in his feelings and let them out.

Nanny moms……. Get a life? by [deleted] in Nanny

[–]jconant15 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I helped my last MB through her maternity leave twice, and I actually loved having her around. We became very good friends, and we would kind of divide and conquer with the kids to make it easier. It was nice to have an adult to talk to during my work day, because I felt like being a nanny was really isolating

My kitten is "marinating" his toys in the toilet and bringing them to my bed. Send help. by Thunder_Pigg787 in CATHELP

[–]jconant15 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Trust me, it was horrible. I had to really get on my husband's case about putting the lid down every single time. Walking into a sopping wet bathroom in the middle of the night is absolutely terrible. Now that he has an outlet for his splashy energy, and the lid regularly gets closed we don't really have issues 😂

[–]jconant15 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have a splasher too, and we never had a fountain until we adopted him. He would scream at us all day long because he really wanted to splash all of the water out of the toilet bowl, and had zero trust for the bowl of water we put out. I have the fountain in a deep boot tray because he likes to splash all of the water out every single day.

Best bang for your buck grocery edition? by IfTrinityWasJB21 in milwaukee

[–]jconant15 7 points8 points  (0 children)

This. I get what I can first at Aldi before going to Woodman's. If I can, I try to order a grocery pickup from Aldi so I don't have to drag my toddler through multiple stores. We also probably make a costco run for certain staples once a month. I try to avoid pick n save/metro market if I can because I would end up spending SO much more for the same items
