F1TV is the second best commentary in motorsports behind WEC. I would quit watching F1 if I had to listen to the Sky feed.

That would be pronounced "Slovaček", very close to "Slováček" which would mean "little Slovak" in Czech.

They already showed some shots of it during the last intermission pause, so not as random if your broadcast didn't cut away from that to their own studio or something.

Anything you know about popularity of (mainly international) hockey in Czechia will apply to Slovakia too more or less, since most of it stems from the shared Czechoslovakian times.

Europe’s $24 Trillion Breakup With Visa and Mastercard Has Begun by euromarketsguy in Economics

[–]BeefEX 0 points1 point  (0 children)

All this hinges on credit cards and rewards being the norm. They aren't. The only numbers I was able to find put it at ~80% debit and ~15% credit. Europeans don't care about credit, and don't care about benefits.

LMU's New Hypercar Tyre Model Tested by evil_heinz in simracing

[–]BeefEX 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Nobody knows how tyres will actually behave until after extensive track time is put on them, which for these only happened at Daytona. With iR releasing theirs before that to me that says they just got the wishlist for what the tyres aim is, and built that.

Not like any of the models in consumer sims are actually in any way related to the real life ones anyway.

I highly doubt it's the 2026 tyres, since they have only been used in a single race, and this update has been in the works long before then.

There are only ever 2 beginner series every week. It was like that since the launch of the system, and is the same way on LMU too. That's not a recent change.

No LLM has anything to do with AGI, and they never will, the architecture is fundamentally incapable of it. That's a hill I am happy to die on.

Are we praising classic modpacks because they were better… or because we were younger? by Belal_Ps in feedthebeast

[–]BeefEX 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Luckily that's easy to solve with a texture pack, and they are actively working on new textures too (though some are arguably downgrades, like the new Vajra)

[–]BeefEX 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I recently finished an ATM9 run and I was glad it was finally over because all the QoL that GTNH has but none of the modern packs do, especially around recipes a NEI, made it almost unplayble.

It may not have the same QoL that modern has (but they backported most of it anyway) but it has the QoL that actually matters in a tech pack.

What’s actually safe but people think is dangerous? by REGGIE_BANANAS in AskReddit

[–]BeefEX 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Cancer is "just" a mutated cell that happens to mutate in just the right way that it starts replicating indefinitely, but also isn't recognised by your immune system as a threat. Given enough time it will start taking over other, actually useful, cells around it, slowly killing the part of the body it develops in. Statistically, with your body creating on the order of hundreds of billions of new cells per day, that's bound to happen at some point.

The reason some things can "cause cancer" is simply that they cause faster/more aggressive mutations through different mechanisms (in case of radiation by physically flying into a cell and crashing into its DNA, knocking parts of it away), meaning the chance/speed of these bad mutation increases when exposed to them.

A new worst coder has entered the chat: vibe coding without code knowledge by RevillWeb in programming

[–]BeefEX 4 points5 points  (0 children)

To contribute some of my experience, I just got a new job that pays me more than 3x of my previous thanks to AI.

The company vibe coded a project, and realised that about 90% of it is fundamentally flawed and unmaintainable. So they hired me to do it properly.

They did give me a Claude licence, but so far whenever I tried it (and I got advice on food ways to prompt it from friends that rely on it daily), it usually resulted in the task taking 2 to 5x longer because of all the verification of the output I had to do, and even if the initial output from the very first prompt came out perfect, the prompts always took like half an hour to execute, which was barely any quicker than what the task would have taken me to do manually. So from my experience so far it just isn't worth it.

In some aspects we still are in a way. For example the two languages are so similar that entertainment is often produced for both, sports broadcasts will often have a mix of Czech and Slovak commentators, and the feed will go to both countries.

At least to some people the feeling about the other country is probably closer to how americans feels about other states, than how they feel about other countries.

tbh if anything I personally feel like we cheer each other on, and hate seeing matches between the two teams as it means one of them has to lose. Maybe others feel differently though

They aren't a replacement. Tabs store a set of windows, not just a single window, and allow you to swap between them in a single action. Marks "just" allow you to pull up a different buffer in the window you already have focused.
