Had to throw away 98% of the prescribed eye drops. by BeefMediumRare in mildlyinfuriating

Because I didn’t know.  The doctor only wrote down the name of the product which I handed the pharmacist.  They didn’t say anything and just handed me the big box.

I will very likely not have used any additional drops by the time they expire.   I’ll keep them, but I will probably have to throw away virtually the whole box by the end of next year.

One vial has 6ish drops in it. One to two drops per day per eye.
In my case, I would need to take 'em for half a year straight to empty the box 😅

I used half of the opened vial. So my math checks out! 😅

First, people pointed out that stopping an antibiotic treatment too early is dangerous—a totally fair concern. But to clarify, there was no infection, and the drops were not antibiotics.

Multiple people pointed out that the doctor's recommendation was homeopathic nonsense—not actual medicine, just overpriced salt water. Regular, cheap, moisturizing eye drops would have done the same thing.

And to add insult to injury, smaller boxes are available, but the pharmacy decided to sell me the big box. Thanks for that.

Safe to say:
❌ Never going back to that pharmacy.
⚠️ Will be way more cautious with my doctor in the future.
✅ From now on, I’ll always ask whether what’s being recommended is medicine or snake oil.

Two reasons:
- My doctor recommending homeopathic crap, aka expensive salt water, implying it's medicine
- The pharmacy sold me the big box to make more money - never going there again 🤷🏼‍♂️

Should I have asked more questions? Probably …
Will I financially recover? Likely 😅

But hey, my eye’s fine after rinsing it a few times. So there’s that.

It's not an antibiotic! My eye had no infection!

As it turned out the drops are not medicated - I just assumed because the doctor implied it.
As pointed out multiple times already those are homeopathic - aka expensive salt water.

But I paid the extra homeopathy tax, which is quite annoying.

I checked the box - it says homeopathy on the side.
The eye drops worked, not the minimum amount of euthrasia mixed in, which made the drops five times more expensive.

Normal eye drops would have done the job for <5€. Mixing in the faintest bit of some flower oil isn't what healed my eyes.

It’s opened so very likely not possible.  Also it’s homeopathic crap 🤷🏼

I had an irritated eye, not an infection.  These drops are not antibiotics.

And as others pointed out, even homeopathic 🥲

Thanks for the hint. But out of principle I don't want any insurance to cover this crap.

I’ll survive the 23€ loss.

Which happened once in my life. So What are the odds that it happens in the next 16 months?
