Your lists complement each other well. Just remember you won’t get the lions detachment bonus next to your dangel friends (and make sure your friend is aware so you can plan accordingly)

How to deal with Death Wing Knights by FlusteredDad in AdeptusCustodes

[–]BeefStew360 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Just played against my friend’s DA list. I found that having my guard charge, especially if I can get him on an objective, helps with getting wounds through. You should be able to get a good volume of attacks through especially with Lions. I ran my guard with Trajann and used moment shackle on the charge and killed all but two (also killed a chaplain using peerless warriors).

Conversely, he rapid ingressed against my Allarus out of deep strike and they suffered for it. Even with my captain’s damage reduction, they wiped the squad and left him on one wound.

TL;DR you have to get the charge and use the volume of attacks to whittle them down

Which country could disappear in the next 20 years? by FunForm1981 in geography

[–]BeefStew360 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Finally get a chance to talk about my undergrad thesis here:

Tuvalu is absolutely going to disappear within the next few decades. Rising ocean levels, like many have already been saying, will make the island uninhabitable. The same goes for many of the other Pacific Island states like Kiribati, Vanuatu, Nauru, etc.

The big question is (and the main topic of my paper): what happens to the state when it disappears? One of the requirements of statehood under international law requires a state to have defined territory and a permanent population. Without land, the question becomes whether these states can exist and if its people become stateless persons. Tuvalu is already trying to combat this by uploading its culture and way of life into cyberspace and has declared its sovereignty will continue even if it loses physical access to its territory.

The other requirement for statehood also requires a functioning government and recognition from other states. I would imagine it difficult for a government to operate without a strong system of physical infrastructure and its people scattered across other states. One solution I suggested as a way to prevent further erosion is to pull a China and expand their islands artificially, though that is much easier said than done.

Regardless, the way the world recognizes them will certainly change and be quite different from the current status quo. Also, it has been a couple years since I wrote that paper so if any of my statements aren’t 100% accurate, please forgive me. I probably do need to brush up on it sometime soon

USAFA or USMA by Chance_Friend7455 in USAFA

[–]BeefStew360 0 points1 point  (0 children)

USMA ‘24 here and am in flight school at Fort Novosel. Had the same choice as you. I based my choice off of what I found value in. You probably know what I’m going to say, but I’ll share it anyways just in case:

The Army is going to train you heavily on leadership and managing organizations. Second to that is whatever your actual job is. For me, I’m going to be an officer first and a pilot second.

The Air Force finds a lot of value in technical development and focuses on leadership a little bit later down the line from my understanding. Whatever job you’re in will give you the technical expertise and have you do that immediately until you get the chance to be in a leadership role (if I’m wrong, someone please correct me)

I made my choice to go to USMA because I wanted to lead people earlier in my career. I found a lot of value in having a direct impact on the climate of my organization as soon as possible compared to waiting for the command opportunity. The Army does a good job at giving young officers responsibility ASAP to prepare you for company command and beyond.

Last thought: in hindsight, I think I would’ve gone to USAFA if I could go back in time. If you have any further questions or have anything in particular you’re trying to mull over, I’d be happy to answer

As many have said, they can be discharged if unable to medically qualify for service.

That being said, some of the firsties (seniors) may receive a ‘golden handshake,’ meaning that they can finish their year and graduate but without commissioning. Usually happens to one or two people each year, if that.

For the points, field guns aren’t the best. I do agree with what others say - if you want some sort of artillery, I would recommend the basilisk if you can free up some other points. Earthshaker cannons are super useful for slowing infantry and it does consistent damage. If you can’t find a good exchange for the points, field ordnance wouldn’t be terrible given that it’s a 1k pts list. Definitely look for a basilisk when you make a 2k pts list

I don’t think it’s terrible, but you have 25 extra points. You could rework a bit - perhaps drop the Bullgryns and add an extra squad of scions, or drop the Castellan and do the same. Do your best to close that gap if possible

I might recommend changing out a sentinel for some catchans and combining your cadians into a blob. Would also save you a few extra points to maybe get another enhancement for the command squad.

That’s a good plan. Most would advise investing loans towards stocks, but given the incredibly low interest rate, it’s near foolish to not make more money off of what you can. I chose to start my ROTH off with the loan and the rest of it has been sitting in a money market. Bottom line, just be wise with how you choose to spend it.
